Does he shake hands with ministers and priests?

I read in the second instance, that he refused to shake the hand of a student of a seminary after he greeted him on behalf of the priest.

I recall reading Dawkins viewpoint on this somewhere, I'll try to find it. An opportunity is what he called it, IIRC, to show his desire (and willingness) to offend theists.

If I was wearing a towel or sand, I'd probably consider the person to be a anti-flannelist or anti-sandist

Who'd want to shake Dawkins's hand, anyway? That guy's a total bitch.

On principle, I think no theist should shake his hand. To accommodate his desire to avoid any contact with the deluded.

Clergy of the Church of England at least, and other clergy as well if ordinary circumstances are to be believed - he mentions in his book that you have not read a couple of courteous encounters of mutual respect with ministers etc. in situations that would have involved handshaking, and of course he would meet hundreds of clergy in his travels and book signings etc, without having created any sort of reputation like that.

IIRC he shook Ted Haggard's hand, in that one video linked on this forum.

Do you think the man runs around refusing to shake the hands of theists, like some fundie Muslim meeting a girl ?

You are being ridiculous. This is exactly the same BS as comes up in Obama threads, about whether his wife hates America and why he won't put his hand on heart or saythe Pledge of Allegiance.

I would be offended in that case.
Not so much by not shaking my hand, but because of the reason.

How are you able to discern my religious leanings based on my appearance?

So as long as they are a theist it's OK? Even if they believe in the christian god, and not yours (dont' try and kid me they are the same god btw).

If you didnt shake hands with anobody atall I would not be ofended and just respect that you have issues with it, but if you said you wont shake my hands because im a daoist I would most likely be offended.

    peace.

This made me think of smething that happened very recently to me, my new partner is christian (pentecostal =/ ). She was told by her pastor that she should avoid talking to me. I see this within the same spectrum as this posts intentions, this makes me kind of angry at her church andpastor in particular for preaching such nonesense. I see it as a way to make sure she only talks to other christians and marries one so they all give revenue to the church and wont make her stray from it.

She has been tld to stay away from me because I do not worship jesus the lord (I thought god was the lord anyway?).

    Strange people.

    peace.

yeah well as long as they keep followers away from anything that might lead them away from christ, and remain anti-contraceptive, their numbers will grow, so revenue will grow.

I wouldn't be offended, I'd just say to them, 'you've got a problem buddy.'

I immediately mistrust people whose handshake is as limp as a 2 week old celery stick.

I mistrust people with a firm handshake, they have something to hide..

It's unnatural, some practically squish your hand. They are trying to come across as confident or worse, dominant.

I don't mean those 5lb psi type of firm shakes, but just enough pressure to indicate you're alive and that you appreciate the other person, otherwise there's no point in them.
