...due to inactivity and too anal rules. Example: James current thread and the nonactivity before that.

    Argue otherwise....

Do you wish to have a Formal Debate on your topic?

If not, I will move your thread to Open Government.

I was just joking, but if you guys want this subforum to be more active, you have to losen up the rules a bit...

Also most threads in politics and religion are already debates, just informal...

You know what, just for the mental challenge, I will make it a Catch of 22:

    1. For a decent and intelligent debate we need strict rules and heavy moderation.
    2. No decent and intelligent person would debate with strict rules and heavy moderation.

If you have read the rules, you will know that participants in debates are free to agree to whatever rules they want, provided that their debate can still legitimately be called a "formal" debate.

I don't see how things can be much looser than that.

Yes. All the other fora have informal debates. The Formal Debates forum provides an alternative.

I suggest you re-read the sticky threads which will inform you as to how the Formal Debates forum is actually meant to work.

Here is another problem with this Subforum:

let's say A and B started a debate. But C and D are reading it and they would like to add very good arguments or point out incorrect things but it is kind of hard if not impossible. I did read the rules long time ago but forgot them, so forgive me if I am wrong on this one.

There is supposed to be a Discussion thread that goes along with every debate, for people who are not formal debaters to comment in.

Is there still a debate going to happen whereby the existence of God is discussed/debated?

If somebody proposes one, and people agree to debate it, sure.
