I used to think the moderation of this site was ok. I feel this way no longer. After seeing a thread with a title( Muslims lie) that is clearly a bigoted statement and have the posts in say things about the religion of Islam and its followers that any moron could find to be false with 5 to 10 minutes of research. The fact that this has remained open and its starter not repremanded is a travesty and an unspoken admission that the mods feel it is ok to be bigoted against islam. The mods should be ashamed of yourselves for doing nothing and to those of you in the mod community here who say I should have complained before starting this thread; I say that if you need a complaint over something so overtly bigoted that you do not deserve to be a mod and this community would be better served by someone in your position.

Quit whining and grow a pair. There's nothing wrong with tearing apart an ideology. If you can't distinguish ideologies from people, that's your problem.

The best advice I can give you is to lighten up

In the first place, PJdude, you've been around long enough to know that, in general, certain forms of hatemongering are welcome and even endorsed around here. It sucks, it's a shameful travesty, but such is life.

Secondly, not only is the topic poster you refer to a long fixture at Sciforums, she is also widely regarded around here as a crackpot.

And, hell, cracked pottery and bullshit, as you well know, are the bread and butter of this place of late. Seriously, in something like 25.5 hours, that topic has amassed over 120 quick-hit replies. The broader problem, in my opinion, is the trend toward 100% thought-free posts. Then again, if the moderators don't let people be complete morons most of the time, we're somehow evil and oppressive.

Personally, I would worry more about the sheer idiocy of such discussions. It used to be that Sciforums was known by its motto, "Intelligent Community". That has proven too great a burden for many of our members, and the topic to which you refer is but one example among many of what that means.

For the time being, though, the moderators are, in fact, aware of certain broad problems, of which such topics are symptomatic. Solutions, however, are a bit different. After all, if the membership seriously doesn't want to put any thought into the discussions, there's not much we can do about it. Really—what, are we going to ban ninety percent of the community for being complete idiots?

It sucks man. Truly it does. But the witness of disgraceful, embarrassing idiocy is one of the prices of being human. Go easy on your less-fortunate neighbors. They don't know any better, and aren't capable of understanding the point.

    More of the same?

So much scorn, so little substance.

Remember, (Q), it's all up to you.

It's good to whine. Because then, atleast everyone knows what you think.

And yes, the moderation is not the way it used to be round here.

I don't see the problem. Ever heard of free speach? Is medicine woman not entited to her own opinion? As soon as we start moderating people thoughts, we become a dictatorship.
I don't see whats the problem with that particular thread.

Threads, located in the appropriate forum, are bound to be of ingredients that sometimes sting the pallet. I'm all for letting people talk freely.

PJ has little understanding of fairness because he only sees one side.

pjdude1219 can i point out that the mods are more like state goverments i guess than a united whole of site goverment.

we dont agree with what eachother do but we have no authority outside our own sections. for instance FR might disagree with something i do in B&E and he can make coment about it but the end its my decision unless james, styder or plazma overrule me and they have to have a good reason to do it.

even with in a section we dont all agree, i fight with string all the time

Free speech is fine but i draw the line before overt bigotry. It was not complex not nuanced. It was simple overt bigotry, nothing factual about to redeem it. Overt bigotry is not condoned in the rules. And yes she is entitled to her opinion. But she stated an overtly bigoted statement(that is an opinion) as if it were a fact and shouldn't be tolerated in community that wishes to claim itself intelligent.
