Are people incapable of restraining themselves? Must there be government restraining to keep ourselves from borrowing and lending more than we can afford?
Is the desire to have something overpowering enough to make you forget that you can't pay for it?

They keep selling dreams, you know, the new flashy flat screens, new blue ray is so cooool and all that stuff. I just bought used wide screen TV 26 inches, fully functional, good quality of picture, it cost me 40 € and I did get receiver for digital signal on top that for free

My DVD player is the old XBOX with mod circuit, used, in good shape, that costed me 60 € three years back. I´m fan of proved to be good electronics, the new shit often breaks down in couple of years or so. So, now is the hangover time.

There needs to be more government restriction. What we have today is not what the forefathers intended, nor what is best for the country.

    Heh so true.

Happy times ahead for those of us who are "cash only", we can buy the credit addicts' shit for dirt cheap soon.

that's if our cash will actually be worth anything in a few months

The government needs to save us from ourselves? No thanks.

What we have here is a lack of education about financial matters among the general public. There are some corrupt and deceitful practices but these should be combated with education.

Bailing out does not address the root cause which is credit gone crazy due to a basic lack of understanding by those involved.

-Thats why I put my extra pennys to collector items, yesterday I bought Pink Floyds I Wish You Were Here limited edition picture disc vinyl, mint condition and Ramones Road To Ruin (oh the irony) coloured special edition vinyl, if the inflation hits big time, my debt (fuck, I have use credit too

Its kinda like treasure hunt at the same time, and I love all kind of music, but ironically half of my vinyls havent been ever touched by the needle, but thats why there is CDs. If my house would burn down losing my vinyl collection would be the hardest thing for me, never mind this PC or other gadgets.

I dont trust one bit of those economics experts, they are just talking heads.
I have seen two depressions here, first one was the major one early 90´s, it started roughly the same way than now in US, and then there was the "information technology" bubble burst around 2000, many common folks were fooled to buy all kind of "the thing of the future" IT stocks, and many burned their fingers badly. Like the saying goes, when your cab driver starts to giving you stock tips sell all you got...

Interesting times ahead, thats for sure.

I believe, and dont get excited here, that there needs to be more cooperation from other countries to provide health care to Americans.

Given the sheer enormity of immigration from other countries to U.S then it is time to share the burden.

Its enough that our own government screws me...

Immigration, where would you be without immigration at the first place.

Yeah, everything happens for a reason, but only few know the reasons, whats your thought on the reasons, not that I care too much why something is happening, its happening and I have been prepared for it, no matter either way its gonna turn out

First of all i would say that 70-90% of the immigrants coming to U.S are poor. I dont fault them but this immigration alleviates the burden put on other countries. Does it not?

This is an issue affecting all of humanity and i believe it is time to see things a little differently than in the past. And tbh after that we can concentrate on poor countries and moderate countries the world over. But we need to think long and hard about population control. This is not as controversial as it sounds but FFS when are we going to start dealing with reality?

Government regulation is the only reason there are ever working markets. The problem isn't so much predatory lending, but the lender knowing they can just pass the mortage on to some other party and repackage the debt in strange financial instruments. It used to be you got a loan from a bank, who managed that loan until it was paid off. Then it is in their interest to have good lending standards.

    John,
are you saying that those poor immigrants have something to do with your megatons of debt ? They are sucking just your welfare checks while you the original people are doing all the hard work. So you let them in because you are so nice, LOL. And it was their choice to come there, and now they can come back if they choose to.

Where were the international aid when our economy was ruined down to toilet because of the speculative hyper-capitalism, ten of thousands small business went down, and the unemployment figures went trough the roof while all the fat cats were saved...
Oh yeah, we didnt have this immigration problem...

I´m dealing with the reality, come here and I buy you a lunch and couple of beers

My solution is that we need to get back to small business and small units in many areas, in that way there is more jobs for the people, back to the basics.

And how about this country, Bhutan. They are happy people what I´been reading and seeing on TV documentary, and I bet they dont consider them selves being as "poor" as we "civilizated" countrys consider them to be.
What is enough to be happy and not poor; Cars, TVs, microwave ovens, toasters and all that shit ? Not to mention all kind of mental pills, crappy pop music, pointless TV shows...
I bet they wouldnt change their country for any country in that sense.

There is other ways to live than the american dream, saying that, in Finland we have this saying that we are the little america now days, we have adopted phrases like Super-markets, Hyper-markets and all that silly megalomania, waiting for the Tera-markets

It's the government that created the whole financial 'crisis' to begin with. They print out money like toilet paper, and use it artificially inflate the economy while declaring expensive wars. In a true capitalist economy, lenders would not be able to create money out of nothing. And now to pay for their sins, the government is throwing taxpayers onto the fire.. HAH capitalism... yeah right. More like socialist organized crime. I think the soviets did the same thing.

Varda, I thought you'd be familiar with the concept of government corruption coming from Brazil and all, haha.

Yes, borrowing is restrained by the Chairman of the Federal Reserve when he sets higher interest rates.

Paul Volker was the only one in recent memory with the integrity to do so.

    ok ok

    1. Legal immigrants contribute to social security just like american citizens do.
    2. Illegal immigrants get away with a lot of shit, but it's your own fault for not securing your borders and not imposing your law.
