So, Dr James Hansen says we have only 4 years left to save the earth. After that, it will be too late.
I have just one request. Four years from now, after we've done nothing, will global warming alarmists please finally shut up since it will then be "too late"?

You mean when it's clear we fucked up and there's nothing we can do about it anymore, you don't want to hear about it ?

I agree. Once it is "too late", can we not waste any more time or money on the problem? After we reach that point I vote for a world-wide ramping up of our collective industrial might in an attempt to colonize other worlds.

Well then we're doomed. There's no way even Jesus--oops I meant to say Obama--can get the Chinese to reduce their carbon footprint in four years. Hell, just their thousands of rampant, unchecked coal mine fires have released 70,000 tons of toxic gases in the past half century, and nobody's very close to figuring out how to extinguish them.

Chinese civilization is an extremely old organism and old organisms move slowly. They do not understand the fairness in allowing Americans to live at this level of prosperity while insisting that they level off at a much lower limit. America will have to drop back to whatever footprint we think is sustainable, before China will even consider it. And that is not going to happen in the next four years. Not the country that utterly ravaged itself to build the Three Gorges Dam, which provides only about 3% of their electricity.

This planet goes through periods of warming and cooling on a regular basis. 'Global Warming' (or Climate Change, as its called when its cold or snowing) is not a threat to mankind but, thanks to a subservient media, is a hot enough bandwagon for politicians and green lobbies to use to squeeze cash out of frightened but simple-minded folk.

You'd have to be pretty arrogant to think you can save a whole planet. Especially one that doesn't need saving!

They won't be able to recover all of the animals that man has caused to go EXTINCT nor will they be able to reverse the climate changes so Earth is going to be on a very bad direction from here on out and the best thing that we can do is .....

Global warming is a longer term problem: it will put coastal cities underwater... in a few centuries, by then few will care. Right now the most pressing problem of global warming is the increasing lack of fresh water and the lowest lying to sea level nations losing coastline at a rapid rate. This is not like "everyone dies, game over man" problems, just the poor people die, but few seem to care about them except for liberals, conservatives and most people just think about them selves. Now peak oil is a concern I think we should pay more attention to, although with the present depression oil demand is below the max out supply so we only need to worry about peak oil when demand goes up again, of course we should do something now but no one ever response until after the fact.

This is a place of science and that remark is inappropriate. Please explain why you take that position.

99.99% of all organisms that have ever existed are extinct. It is what organisms do.

We are possibly the first species to ever value the existence of other species for no other reason than for the wealth of diversity that their presence provides. Give us some credit for that, and for the billions we spend to protect, house, and educate others about all animals.

I guess Mr. Hanson doesn't watch the "History" channel or he would know that we're all toast in 2012 anyway.

All jokes aside, I'm working on making fuel from cattails and getting my meat and dairy from my own goats. Just because of the economy though. End times scenerios are so Y2K anyway.

Let's see if Obama signs it, I will wait with baited breath for that to be done by him when China and Russia don't sign it.

One of my biggest fears about Obama is that he will do something about global warming and deliver a death blow to our economy. A useless death blow since, even if global warming is a serious threat, China and Russia aren't going to do jack shit about it so any effort on our part will be completely useless and serve only to impoverish our nation.
