Hmm... I think it would be cheaper to just build my unit rather than buy one from some corporation. I really doubt this exact design has been conceived already though. Especially since it is home-owner affordable.
55 Gal!! some old lady is not going to be able to lift that filled with water...ha, just givin you shit, but you should use a 5 gal bucket or 15 gal oil drum would be nice. Also 2 things to power would get kinda expensive, the dehumidifier and the pump? Could use a barometer to turn on the dehumidifier at a high enough humidity. And a perfect water purification would be to use electrolysis to break it up and then in a clean container, ignite it, and use the heat to make some electricity and pay for the losses...100% distilled water. Maybe 5% energy conserved by using heat created.
When the tank full of water gets filled with contaminants , how do you get them out and keep the water cleaned? :shrug:
I would say to put algae in levels in the 55 gal unit. Add sunlight, and now you've got plants consuming the material and then actually PRODUCING oxygen in the room. Add some grape fruit seed extract as mold annihilate. I would need to test these modifications and find proper algae. If it gets really bad, then merely empty the water/grapefruit seed extract onto your garden or lawn. Spray with hose, empty again. Likely to sell these air filters with water pumps to remove water from units that would be in basements. Air filters like this could be used in homes for protection against: Nukes, bio-spills, "spore attacks," any numerous disasters etc. The algae air filter would have to be operational at least a few hours a day to keep the algae alive and the water filled with lots of atmospheric gases.

And I was only saying that because, city water is crap! and this would be a perfect way to clean it...and get rid of their additives...Well maybe not perfect, they do have those carbon water filters, a lot easier and cost effective Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
It may clean up water, but I KNOW it will clean up air to the highest level and actually PRODUCE oxygen.
