Merci beaucoup pour cette clarification .
Je ne sais pas tout cela .
Mon Dieux....frogs...squareheads ...pour la même nation....c'est drôle .
J'aime bien les langues et je crois que c'est intéressant de discuter en français de temps en temps .

"Squareheads" was a derogatory term for the Scandinavian settlers in Minnesota and nearby areas. I don't know if it was because of a hairstyle they all liked or because they tended to be big people and may have had large heads. AFAIK "Frog" is just a play on the phonemes in the name "French," reinforced by their taste for frogs' legs.

Mi bedaŭras ke mi ne povas skribi ĉi tiajn komentojn en iu ajn lingvo krom la angla--kaj Esperanto, kiun vi sendube ne povas legi.

"My problem is I can't write in...[something something]...in another language than English - [like or except] Esperanto, [something] is not legal"??

    Is "komentojn" "common"?

Merci aussi pour votre message privé. Malheureusement, je ne peux pas y répondre car je n’ai toujours pas affiché 20 messages dans le forum et donc je suis interdite d’utiliser l’outil PM. :bawl:

Je me passionne pour toutes les langues du monde, et j’en apprends quelques depuis des années. Le français et le finnois sont mes langues préférées (j’ai un ami finnois sur l’Internet) et je crois savoir les parler assez bien.

I regret that I cannot (ne povas = not can) write these (ĉi tiajn = proximate those) comments in any (iu ajn = some specific) language besides (the) English--and Esperanto, which you doubtless cannot read.

I did pretty well for a non-reader of Esperanto, actually. I certainly got the gist and moreso. I should have realized that "ĉi" was "these", of course.

Zamenhof chose his "international" vocabulary entirely from Indo-European languages, especially Latin, so for those of us who speak Indo-European languages the vocabulary is somewhat familiar. My Hungarian friend looked in my Esperanto-English dictionary and said, "No wonder this language is so easy for you people. The words are all the same!"
Actually in my haste I mistranslated that. Esperanto has a paradigm of correlative words:

    kio/kie/kiu/kiel/kiam/kies/kia/kiom/kial = what/where/who or which one/how/when/whose/what kind/how much or many/why

    tio/tie/tiu/tiel/tiam/ties/tia/tiom/tial = that/there/that one/thus/then/that one's/that kind/so much or many/therefore

    io/ie etc. = something/somewhere etc.
    ĉio/ĉie etc. = everything/everywhere etc.
    nenio/nenie etc. = nothing/nowhere etc.

To turn "that" into "this" you add ĉi, so tie - tiam, "there - then" become ĉi tie - ĉi tiam, "here - now." So ĉi tiaj komentoj means "this type of comments," not "these comments." My mistake, sorry. Ĉi doesn't mean "these," it is a particle that turns "those/there/then" into "these/here/now."

(J is the plural inflection and N is the accusative. Since Zamenhof grew up speaking Polish, Russian and Yiddish, inflected languages, Esperanto unfortunately has inflections. But at least they are invariably regular and there is only one "conjugation" of verbs and one "declension" of nouns so there aren't a thousand forms to memorize. And the paradigms are relatively simple: nouns don't have gender and verbs don't have person.)

Also, to turn "something/somewhere etc." into "anything/anywhere etc.," you add ajn to the correlative, so iu lingvo "some language" becomes iu ajn lingvo "any language."

Je deteste les maudits Anglais!!! Haw haw!

Alors, serieusement, vous vraiment croyez que les juifs du monde essayent de controler les Etats Unis? Est-ce que c'est la raison que vous voudriez apprendre cette langue, pour les detester plus?
