Either knives are really cheap in the UK or only rich kids stab each other. After living in the ghetto for quite a while, I think the best solution to juvenile crime is community activity. Kids who have stuff to do and people who depend on them are less likely to be involved in violent crimes.

I find it real hard to be shocked or amazed at this: Kids can't buy ANY knives in England.

Have you ever shopped in the USA? I wasn't allowed to buy model cement (airplane glue) as a kid. You had to be 18. I could buy the model with my own money, but mommy or daddy had to go back and buy the damn cement. Damn kids sniffing glue ruined it for the rest of us.

Kids can't buy fuel injector/fuel system cleaner in the US. Anyone tries to buy more than 3 packets of cold medicine at once can expect a visit from the police. Around here, all cold medicine containing pseudoephedrine must be sold from behind a counter or in front of a security camera. Cans of air, like used for dusting, are restricted sales. Some stores won't sell spray paint to kids. Some stores won't sell eggs, vegetables & fruit to kids in October (Halloween mischief). The list of restricted items could go on for quite awhile.

I'm always amazed when I'm at a store checking out and I hear the scanner beep and the screen reads Is the purchaser over 18 years old (Yes) (No)?. Here I thought I had a bunch of innocuous items, but somewhere some kid found a way to get high with something I bought.

Hell, around here there is even a movement to have alcohol pulled from all stores EXCEPT liquor stores. Why??? Because kids are shoplifting alcohol from these stores and the idiot parents are more upset at the fact the kids are drinking beer than they are over the kids stealing.

 

LOL, you ought to try buying some cold pills that are used to make meth. Even an adult is only allowed to buy so many packs here in Michigan. I've had to give my name and address at Wal-Mart, probably so my Sudafed purchases can be tracked.

 

Not to turn this into a 9/11 conspiracy thread but you have to take note that knives were used to take over a number of the flights, not guns. Knives are easily concealed compared to the bulk of a gun, they don't need ammunition like a gun, however an attacker does have to get close to a victim unless they are a good thrower. Guns can be used through a drive by etc, I doubt you'd see a guy leaning out a window of a moving vehicle throwing knives. (Anyone reading this tries this stunt, then you are a stupid Mofo unless of course it's done in the correct test environment where no animal, mineral or vegetable is harmed.)

I think thats probably the main reason why the legislation targets guns that fire multiple rounds in succession. Knives have always had a certain amount of legislation against them, the No more than 4" blade rule existed years before the amendments to the law.

The laws obviously do have their flaws however it's all base upon demographics, if lots of people got violently killed by toothbrushes, you can guess Great British teeth would be no better.

 

Because that's the reason there is a law that is being stupidly lampooned in the OP?

Really where do you live? I never had any problems like that as a minor which wasn't that long ago. I think the only thing you have to be 18 to purchase here are tobacco products and 21 to purchase alcohol.

Well, yes, in the eyes of the law, they are minors, and do not gain full rights until aged 18, so yes, clearly they ave some dependency still. What is it about that you don't understand? It was the way it was when I was a child, it's still the same. Deal with it.

Boohoo, the widdle boy had a tantrum. I was a teen once myself, except I understood I had to wait before I could legally do some things. It's not ageism, it's common sense. Some people have to grow into that; some never get there.

You slam the little bastards in jail, and prosecute them as adults, if they are big enough to use a lethal weapon, they get the full weight of the law dropped on their sweet little asses, and the full sentence is served no time off for being sick, or being good, and if they aren't good, the stay gets extended.

Put their little rumbling punk asses out on a chain gang from can't see to can't see, so when they see their bunk they fall in love with it.

Again, if they are going to rumble, or even expect to get into a rumble, they are going to bring a knife with them, and the most likely source will be from home, that is were they live, so that would be were they would have access.

 

Putting people in jail after the fact solves NOTHING.
