After a recent hard drive wipe and total re-install Youtube persists in telling me
    .
I'm using Firefox (latest download - 3.5.5) and have JavaScript enabled AND have followed the relevant instructions for getting the latest Flash player. FOUR times.
    And still nothing.
    Any answers?

Although i don't use windows i remember some things.
You said its a fresh install, well after a format you need to add some "basic" software like the Installer or Framework (which obviously you installed)and several others...but you should install the latest Java too if you havn't already.

There's part of your problem, particularly if you're using IE 6 or 7. There's just too many components websites which are increasingly incompatible with other browsers, operating systems, flash software, etc.

  14. Is your Java software up to date?

flash is not bundled with any os' so you need to install it.

One more time: I'm using Firefox, not IE and I've followed all the instructions (i.e. installed all the latest drivers and downloads), FOUR times.
It used to work before the re-install and doesn't now.
