    Ignorant Drivel.
(although no doubt BR will now try and contend that I am reffering to Captain Bork's posts as ignorant drivel, when it is instead these comments made by BR).

So whats the problem with the Genesis account? I don't see enough specifics to be anything conflicting with BB, but its been a long time since I read it so...

It's a "just so" myth, not science, and quite obviously so.

So you don't consider the Earth being formed before there was "light" to be a conflict?

When one is erroneous in his or her beliefs, then it is very difficult for him or her to get it right. You are correct, according to the Genesis story the earth was created on the 3rd day and then the light was created on the 4th day.

    Genesis 1:9-13 nasb
9Then God said, " Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear"; and it was so.

10God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good.

11Then God said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them"; and it was so.

12The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good.

13There was evening and there was morning, a third day.

    Genesis 1:14-19
    14Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;

15and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth"; and it was so.

16God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also.

17God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,

18and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good.

19There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.

Lol... You know the story is not specific at all... For example what you are saying 'let there be light'- Does this mean that this is the moment light was created, or was this the moment that when light hit Earth? Or was this an expression of how you 'unveil' something. So at this moment the saying of let there be light is simply the beginning of a new day on earth?

There isn't enough specifics there to be making the conclusion that this is the moment when light was created.

As for the lights being created to separate the day and night... The passage could actually be read in a manner that the lights always existed but their positioning was being set to create a varying day and night..

I'm not trying to defend the story, but I'm just saying there isn't specifics that you would lead to these conclusions.

    Peace be unto you

No, what your saying is the author was so damn stupid he couldn't count days.

No... I never said that.. I just said that there are so many ways of reading the story because it is not specific as many of you are claiming.

Genesis 1:13 and 1:19 are specific enough to know the author meant two different days. The earth came first.

Not when I can (and have) demonstrated emperically that your assertions regarding me, my posts, and my ego are all bluff and bluster (or if you prefer, transparent BS).

But then again, maybe I should take your word for it, you seem to have far more experience at being driven by your ego than I (credit where credit's due and all that).

Apparently James R. is the all knowing distributor of the label of 'science' - and simultaneously the first blind literary critic. I've never read so much kritik and kvetching about a book from someone who has never read the book. If I was attempting such shmontses in the Physics forum I'd be banned.

It would help if you read the thread.
BR is claiming that the moment of "let there be light" was the Big Bang.
Since this declaration was (according to the book) after the Earth was formed then it sort makes the bible nonsense as support for science (and vice versa) doesn't it?

    Read Gen. 1.2

1:2 - And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

No the earth was not formed.

Like most stories in most books Genesis has a prologue, you are referencing the introduction to the creation story. If you read just a bit farther then you get the day by day account or if you rather a sequence of events where God creates everything existing as it is explained in the story. Of course the creation story as told by God has been exposed as a fraud.

So then address the arguments, or quit bitching about it.

    Hmm.
So the Earth was created, it was there, it existed. But it didn't?
