Let's see, a notebook is $300 and this new giant iTouch is $500-1000.

    No multitasking
    No Flash support
    Same old iPhone OS
    No front facing camera
    No MicroSDHC slot.
    No slide out keyboard.
    No WiMax modem.
    No USB Slot.
    No user replaceable battery.

I guess Apple occasionally lays an egg.

I got my info from Digg, but I guess I was wrong: (corrected it in the first post)

"But the price is going to be another big selling point: the iPad will come in six configurations ranging from around $500 to $1000 in Australia."

$829 for the 64gb with wifi and 3g.

    I won't be buying one. . . yet.

    Version 1.0 always blows.

When this device turns out to be a boon, I'll remember this link and give you a good wag of the finger.

Apple should heed Darth Vader: "Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy [Kindle] is insignificant next to the power of the Force."

you guys should check out the nvidia/verizon/motorola one that will be coming out, THAT will be epic.

Nvidia is putting inside the tegra2 board, it is the first board of that size to have a dual core processer and eight additional high end graphics processers and it drains juice like a cell phone.

It displays in full 1080p hd blu-ray, and it drains batteries with 16 hours of hd video playback time. and near a hundred hours of various other applications.

It can run three different OS's including windows apps.

Has 4g from verizon. up to 10 inch touch screen, and has 2 HDMI ports so you can plug it into a projector or television.

And it is the ONLY tablet to display in HD and will probably be the ONLY tablet to display in HD for quite a while.

Apple, HP, all of those companies do not have the techno know how to build effective graphics cards especially ones small enough to enter the tablet.

And since ATI has been caught off guard by this new market and is up the creek without a paddle, Nvidia is the only company that can give that sort of power to the tablet, and I doubt they would really share with apple and other companies unless they were payed a grand sum of money.

They even signed contracts with various car companies to put tegra2 in their cars.

And the new fabrication process makes the tablet even cheaper.

Looks stupid. The name is stupid. The design sucks. I've been making fun of it all day long.
Pound for pound, netbooks are far superior to the iPad.

Six of one, half dozen of the other. Probably just boils down to a matter of preference.

Its all manufactured on a single computer board, that means that production is simplified a hell of a lot, apple makes all of the parts at different factories, ships em to one, than has that factory glue all the pieces together.

The Tegra 2 is all made on one board, that is why it has an unbelievably long life span, a lot of power is lost communicating through cables to different components.

A slightly souped up netbook is better. But then again, no matter what you buy, you can not use it to make cell phone calls as both Verizon and ATT prohibit unless you use Skype on bluetooth.

    Here are some other ideas:

    1. Have a skinnier Tablet PC with two screens: LCD or OLED and Electronic Paper (like Sony Reader)

    2. Have a skinnier Tablet PC with a removable hard drive that takes SSD and ability to make Cell Phone Calls with Blue Tooth and a small screen on top for various instant functions such as dialing for phone, music and text messaging. Have a camera that swivels for conferencing or picture taking.

The whole idea is to replace all these with a portable device

    Music Player
    Photo Viewer
    Book Reader
    Camera (8 MP +)
    Cell Phone
    Laptop
    (Flash Light?)
    (Swiss Army Knife?)
    (Deodorant?)
    (Add your most used item)
