How about the fact that it does NOT run Windows? As I sit here typing this on my Macintosh, I assure you that I will always be willing to pay twice as much, for the privilege of not having to deal with an operating system that was built by fucking goddamned Microsoft, to their nonexistent quality standards.

I have to use a PC at my office. Over the last three months I have lost two entire days of work because the thing kept dying. Of course you don't mind when that happens at work. You just pick up your phone and punch HELP and they send a nice guy up to fix it while you go have a 2-hour coffee break. Nobody complains that you can't get anything done because they're all familiar with Windows' quality.

The last crash took them almost an entire day to fix. You can't put up with that kind of unreliability at home. At least I can't!

I have a Windows laptop that I use at home for work, and occasionally I get lazy and try to manage personal correspondence or SciForums on it while I'm between tasks. I'm always sorry. I really enjoy that little box saying,
I figure by now Microsoft has a one-gigabyte file labeled "Fraggle Rocker's system crashes." They probably pull them out during their coffee breaks and laugh at them. "Hey you guys, remember when we decided not to fix this bug because the salesmen who manage our projects instead of engineers wouldn't let us have the time? They told us it was so minor it wouldn't do any harm? Well this is the 2,407th customer who was blown off by it."

The last thing I want on a device I'm going to carry around with me and depend on for really important information and communication is fucking goddamned WINDOWS!!!

My toaster doesn't run Windows, and I'll sell it to you for the low-low double price of $100.

Seriously though, there's no reason to pay extra to avoid Microsoft. It's called "Linux."

Look at the bright side, your money goes to charity when buying Windows, since Gates just donated 10 billions to charity funds!!!

But let's predict the future, this thing will be a money loser and bypassed by other similar but better featured products...

P.S.; Please feel free to start a Windows bashing thread, this isn't the place...

Sometimes less is more. Some customers don't want features, they want simplicity.

I was actually joking with someone else that the iPod touch is now officially "the netbook of the iPad universe" - I mean, think about it.
The netbook is the small form factor of the bigger model, its much cheaper, and does pretty much the exact thing as the full size.....only with slightly less horsepower.
Assuming you wanted a MAC with an easy to use phone-like quazi-operating system, but wanted to get the most "bang for your buck", you'd be better off getting the iPod touch. 200 bucks[U.S.] gets you an "iPad-mini" (or "Netpad" if you will)........and that's cheaper than many netbooks

The sheer price of the iPad itself is rather amusing. Its in the same arena as a normal laptop. Not only that, but the whole design and pricing aspect of the iPad does the complete opposite of what makes netbooks so awesome in the first place............. it makes the iPad VALUABLE. It's a huge delicate expensive touchscreen thingy, and a total travesty if anything happens to it.

The netbook on the other hand is not that big of a loss. The average consumer can but it on impulse and give it to their kids (shit - they can buy one for each kid at the price of the iPad)....... take it to school, cover it in stickers, spill chocolate milk on it.....its gets broken or stolen......no big loss. It's not a serious computer by any means.

That's an unfair comparison, really. Microsoft allow their OS to be deployed onto any hardware, that's a far fairer, more flexible, and complex task that Apple restricting use to stuff they demand they sell to you.

Apple hardware being Intel based these days, is no more reliable than PC hardware. Apple OS basically being Linux, is no more reliable or secure than Linux distros. Just what are you paying for, exactly?

I have several computers at home. (I'm in my office right now looking at three desktops and three laptops, and there is a Media Centre and another laptop downstairs.) Only the media centre needs rebooting every now and again, but I'm fairly certain that's down to the USB TV-Tuner hardware. They don't crash and require attention, and let's face it, I have as many computers here as some small offices.

Apple A4 chip makes iPad last 10 hours. No one can beat that, unless there is a giant battery comes with that tablet PC!

It has a USB adapter if I read the spec correctly, so you plug a cable into a proprietary port, and that cable has a USB port on it. Just means you have to carry a bag of stuff around to get full use out of the iPad, which kinda sucks. Oh, it's an Apple V1 product, they all suck, what ws I thinking!

I have just realized that my notebook can be used outside without reflection! The older laptop was so reflective that it was impossible to read, but this thing is just fine.
I can't wait for the spring to arrive and ai will do most of my computing outside...

Like everything Apple does, it focuses on niche customers, not widespread functionality. Comparing the iPad to a netbook is akin to comparing a photoprinter to a standard inkjet.

Obviously, the standard inkjet will print photos, and on bigger pages too! Some of em even have a scanner on top! But the photoprinter still sells, simply because it addresses granular requirements - namely, high quality photo prints on photo optimized media.

Similarly, the iPad will get its market share of frequent fliers, tech geeks, metro execs etc who would eschew some of the more general functional abilities of a notebook for a device with key functions (web and email on the go, portable movies and books, notes and for some, the iTunes Store).

Personally, I like the idea, but I can probably wait for the 2nd or 3rd refresh, since I just got my slim laptop...which is fairly easy to travel with (rather than the 10 pound, 15" screen metal block some people call portable)...but makes it nonsensical to rush after the not-much-thinner iPad.

In short, you simply need to evaluate your own needs against the devices' abilities then decide...rather than buying and adapting to the one with the "mostest".

I was in a retail store and they had it there. 399.00 with the Win 7 upgrade. There was a BIG problem with it though, it wouldn't see the CD player for some reason. It seems this laptop only was made for Vista it seems. So I had to return it after long talks with Microsoft Techs and Acer Techs about ways to resolve the problem but alas none was to be found.
