Probably. Certainly it is better than Vista if that's what you are using.

Windows ME is worth trying over Vista. It was a CRAP os, but at least was less annoying than Vista.
(Yeah, I really want an OS to question me three times about deleting a stupid file. Five if you count emptying the damned recycle bin.)

I currently use primarily Windows XP Pro both at home and work. I've only played around briefly with Windows 7 but will be getting it shortly at work and my opinions on it are mostly from various reviews etc. It does seem to be a good next step.....whether we want to or not.

WIN 7 seems to work well enough for me on my new AMD quad 64 based system, though I have hit a compatibility issue with Dragon Age: Origins. The game locks up on a load sequence so I need to contact the manufacturer to see if there is a patch or a work - around.

Other than that, it is less obtrusive than XP, but sometimes does some stuff that I didn't ask it to and am not sure I would have done if asked. Call this a conditional, tentative endorsement.

    I'm using it. It's good.
As stable as XP Pro with more functionality.

Microsoft have this habit of releasing a dud before something which improves upon it - ME being a good example. XP wasn't all that flash when first released either, but is quite effective now. Vista was the dud.

IMO, Windows 7 as an initial release is better than the initial release of XP. I only hope MS don't screw with it too much.

Yesterday at Walmart I saw an HP 15" laptop for $360 with 7 on it. Seriously, it doesn't get any cheaper, you can buy that and if you don't like it probably sell for the same price on Ebay...

Thus cost of trying it, zero....

Y'all have such nicer machines than I do...

No, seriously. I mean can you guys pass a donation plate around or something?

I'm all proud over here of my rinky dink computer that has like half the specs you guys keep talking about.

<Pets his computer. "It's ok baby. I still love you">

ETA: I upgraded to ONE gig of RAM. ONE. Hell, I was still running 256 before that! I have two slots left. I could make it TWO gigs... If I wanted to...
Sifreak got 16 gigs of RAM?
Ok, what are you going to DO with all that RAM? I dunno if I should be jealous or laughing... <Scratches head>

    Interesting contradiction.
You don't find an OS doing 'stuff' you didn't ask it to as obtrusive??

It's that kind of behaviour that has stopped me from going to Win7 so far.
With my XP rig, I know exactly what's happening, all the time.

Not thus far, as it has all been pretty inconsequential. A lot of extra steps have been eliminated, like clicking on "shut down" twice and stuff like that. I miss the graphics for the defrag screen, though.....

not all that much. I think WIN 7 is a keeper, downloaded a patch from Bioware to address my game issue.
