Im questioning the ability of Canada to supply anything other than military men and land based infantry. The fact is it is nice to have, but it's not exactly the sort of thing that will turn the war around. I would trust a Canadian to watch my back in combat because we are equally equipped, but the fact is that to fight a war Canada really does rely on the US to help them out.

e have more then three destroyers, we only have three in the middle east, as of right now we have 12 destroyers one for each province, and plans on building 6 more plus we just purchased 16 apache copters, and are working out an order for 125 newer fighter jets, plus we just built a new Arctic base, and we have 6 ice breakers which are armed heavy trust me i see the work done on them every day, oh and lets not mention 6 sub's, two of them being fitted with nuclear reactors at the moment, 4 in service patrolling the east and west coast of NA.

why are we building like this, because we are in a state, of war in the middle east, we have been sence 2001. and we have been building sence 2001. we just don't arm in times of peace, but that does not mean we are not trained in the top western allies equipment, Esp, the USA, nore do we have out dated equipment. even our old gear was updated with all the top of the line Allie radar, missiles, radio, and sonar.

No, you have 12 frigates and 3 destroyers.

On building six more? You had four and you decided to retire one, you only have 3 and only have plans to keep those three. You have no plans whatsoever to build more. Im not saying they are cruddy ships, theyre pretty good and really reliable, but the fact is there are only 3.

There are only four submarines with no plans for more. And they are diesel electric subs.

The fact is that Canada is a reserve nation, it supplies great manpower when needed but the fact is that certain high end equipment like ships cannot be built in the middle of a modern war, they can, but they will be too late to the party.

yes I agree we do, we usually buy a shit load of gear from you, during war times at greatly reduced cost, because we help with the R&d plus we build allot of the parts here in Canada for your forces, don't you think we esp me as the majority English,Canadian would love to have weapons on hand, but the French side just won't let it happen even today, we arm fast because of our vast money and world credit, and in the mean time we train closely with our allies, esp the USA.

and another thing about us Canadians we try and we fight hard, because it is hard always being in the shadow of such a massive U.S force, but it works out good because it keeps attention off of us for a few months so we can get re-equipped,

if you look at the specs of our figates, they are larger and more powerfull then what most nations would call a frigate, and they have multiple anti air, anti sub etc , why there called fig ates is any ones guess, prob ally something the English side had to do so the French would allow it, again you really have to understand what we deal with up here, i really wish Quebec would just leave Canada. oh and new ships are coming, we don't let everything we do millitarly get on the web,

here is a link with some of the tech in our frigates.

    http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/halifax/

and as for them not being replaced, think again, it is just keeping low, but when the government dredges 38 million dollars out of an un needed harbour here where i live sydney nova scotia canada, and are trying to recruit marine and navey personal at our local coast gaurd and millitary base. It's war time watch Canada grow, these little piss fight wars now are just the begining of the real war to come.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Single_Class_Surface_Combatant

Canada has a huge military rebuilding effort taking place, we had government stimilus as well but our money went directly towards rebuilding our millitary and highways. Not returning your bank account's balances.

you will see alot more new toys in canada over the next few years, Esp if this war keeps up. oh and canada is more then reserves, we were there fighting from day one, at our own choice. that ignorent to say that. we just aquirered 16 more of these which i am sure we will and can get allot more if needed, fairly cheap.

    http://coat.ncf.ca/ARMX/cansec/AH-64.htm.

and we ave 13 or so new chinooks, coming as well, and a decent new fleet of leapard two tanks being delivered.

The true concern will be the New "Independent State of the Internet".

People no longer want to live like prisoners oppressed by the corrupt politicians running incompetent government states like we currently have, they don't want to be dragged into bullshit wars and be attacked when they go on holiday just because they have a particular countries passport.

What some (obviously not all) people would probably like is the capacity to have a completely de-materialised country, that is completely neutral.

I guess you can say I'm waiting on my "Internet Passport" that albeit might seem quite nomadic with no land but would grant me access to other countries and immunities from all the wrong doing that current governments make.

If the numbers of people interested in such a "de-materialised country" were high enough, then it would spark protests against those governments that will not let their people migrate.

Yes. It started at least a decade ago, but unlike WWII, is being fought economically. There will be a lot of casualties, none the less as US and EU sink into world's worst depression.

The way I see it Soullust. The reason why Canada wants to keep a lower military is because they know they have the potential to become an influential power. But the fact is that if you build up your military it will become a damn curse. Take a look at the US, every time there is a conflict people ask, neigh, beg us to send troops in to stop it.

If we send in troops and succeed, people criticize us for invading a "peaceful" country which no one wanted us to invade.

If we see that the new government isn't quite stable and needs to be propped up in order to form a secure state for the protection of it's people, poeple criticize us for "conquering" the country and not helping it.

If we do nothing than we are called cowards.

Soullust, you do not want to enter this game, have you ever seen the movie the Dark knight? Remember at the ending what he said, something like he will be whatever Gotham needs? A hero, A villain. That is the state of affairs the US has been dragged into. Were in it because were the ones that can take it, were in it because either no one else is willing to join us, and we don't want anyone to join us.

Now, lets get back to a WW3 scenario, I think it's time we got back on subject don't you?

Well no offense soullust, but that is the definition of a frigate, and Ive seen the specs, they are the standard classification for a modern nato type frigate. They are up to date and up to specs no doubt about it.

Anti air and anti submarine operations is the defining element of a frigate.

Besides the fact that there are few things the Canadian military really needs to keep top secret, not to say they have bad tech or anything, it's just that those kinds of projects are ridiculously expensive and Canada has no need for it.

After doing a 17 page research paper on the Pacific war of World War 2 I could garuntee you guys the US would win, it may not be easy, but the US would in the end win if they were at war with lets say, China.

The reason is because there has only been one time in modern history that the US went 99.9% into the war effort and brought all of it's heavy guns to bear. And that was World war 2. Contrary to popular belief we did not spam soldiers and ships and all that stuff. The US created a new training program which was a modernized idea that you take veteran soldiers, bring them whom to train new soldiers. By the end of the war the average US soldier that was fresh out of training camp was far, far, far superior to the average Japanese fresh out and the average German fresh out. We made an incredible compromise between the incredible production capacity of Russia and the ingenuity, innovation, and technology of Germany. For example, the average US fleet carrier could hold significantly more planes than a Japanese fleet carrier. But by the end of the war in less than 4 short years we had started the war with less than 10 aircraft carriers built and ended the war having deployed an unbelievable 161 aircraft carriers of all types.

That is unbelievable, I dont even want to count how many battleships, cruisers, and destroyers.

The F-6 Hellcat was a very strong plane used in WWII and it destroyed many of the jap's planes!!!!

Interesting perspective however I would think in the end the side who can be more effective with less reliance on technology has an upperhand as they are "raw" soldiers.

Basicly there is a lot of dependancy with a modern military in terms of technology/supplies etc.

Guerrilla warfare is about as basic as it gets and doesn't rely too much on perfect scenerios/situations.

You could think of guerrilla warfare as the foundation of warfare and when in a destructive/exhausting type of combat it will inevitably be superior its just a matter of time and resources.

If you are against a foce who has superior technology the only logical approach would be to fight on terms that make that technology pointless.

Much like the spartans funneling the persians through a bottle neck to make the persian numbers pointless, guerrilla warfare funnels high tech enemies to low tech terms/conditions so their advantage is also as pointless as the persian numbers.

In that case it would be the US who wins.

Guerrilla warfare by NO means makes you abandon your technology. It means you are limited only by the speed at which you can move the equipment. That means infantry and light vehicles. Israel would be the clear and undisputed victor in this case just because of their incredible urban infantry's ability, after that would be the US. Fact is that the Chinese have a lot of infantry, but they aren't particularly good.
