What is "Google-analytics"?

Lately, when I browse SciForums, I regularly see a pause in the loading of the page which can last for 2-3 seconds. At the bottom of my browser, I see it's accessing "Google-analytics.com". Is this something on the Sciforums site, or is this some sort of tracker I have installed?...and is there a way to disable it?

It's not a tracker or something spurious, it's just the Google spider.

google-analytics is a analysis tool that google uses to be able to map traffic to a site. In this instance of this one, it will map what users have been browsing elsewhere to tailor the advertisements on this site and other sites to match their online activities.

 

I didn't think it was anything malicious. It's just a little annoying. From what I read, it's something used to help with ad tracking. I was just curious if there was a way to disable or block it, since it slows down browsing.

 

So I guess we have Skaught to thank for all the new "Gaping Anus" porn ads on the site lately.

Get NoScript for Firefox, it will block it by default. It will also let you selectively approve/block any script you want on any page, and thus by blocking all the scripts make your browsing much safer.

 

Google analytics that warn up when browsing a web site is simply not something you have to worry about ... it's just because at the bottom of the source code there is a script calling the Google script in order to establish the statistics for the site owner and in order for him to track his visitors and so on.
