So movies based on a horrifying subject get a free pass on their quality? The thought of the Holocaust is certainly horrifying, but that doesn't mean that every book/movie/TV series that takes place during the Holocaust is some award-winning masterpiece.
It's pretty obvious what the term "Holocaust" is referring to. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
No because it is and will all ways be based on hear say, But if the book, movie what ever was well made, and very precise to the history of the event then yes it would deserve to be a master piece in it's own rights. and at least slaves were feed, by there masters.
I didn't bother reading a damn thing. The simple idea that people are trying to say one is worse than the other, WTF? How do you compare people being raped of their dignity, murdered, abused in every way possible? Who are we to say which one was worse? We sit here behind our computers trying to analyze the reason for each to be more horrific than the other? One can throw up statistics, etc., but it doesn't negate the emotional pain, fears, scarring each individual went through, being separated from families, treated poorly for who they were. Sickens me that people are arguing which one was worse. When you say one is worse than the other, that is you as an idividual trying to take away from what happened the other. You can't do that. They were both horrible and that's that. I'm digusted.
Is being murdered worse than having your car stolen? Who are we to judge, right? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Depends on what I had in the car....but then I might commit murder. Who are we to judge, right? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
you guys. We know we can never REALLY make an accurate estimate. Or an accurate decision. That's pretty obvious and nobody here said that they really could. But we can try. So why are you disgusted with us trying to gain a better understanding? Are you disgusted with newspaper reporters? They try and claim to be unbiased but to be completely unbiased is impossible.
There were different motives, weren't there? Lets talk about the motives behind the Transatlantic Slavery, and the Holocaust, which by the way, didn't concern just Jews/Hebrews, and then lets compare the two motives..
Sorry to rebump this thread/whatever it is. I'd say that a holocaust is worse than slavery. holocaust: an act of mass destruction and loss of life, according to google definitions. That is so much worse than slavery. Some terrible examples include: the holocaust perpetrated by the Germans in the 1940s which killed millions of jews, pacifists, homosexuals, gypsies, mentally handicapped, communists, christians from other sects, etc. the holocaust perpetrated by the Chinese in the 1950-60s, which killed millions of non-communists such as muslims, christians, buddhists, etc. the (continuing) holocaust perpretrated by the Israelis since 1948, which has killed and displaced millions of Palestinians. see, slavery does not compare to a holocaust, where the results are so much more devastating.
How can you sit there with a straight face and actually say that? Historians have estimated that over 15 million slaves were kidnapped and shipped to America, with at-least 20% of them perishing before they ever reached the shore. This happened for 4 centuries, the Holocaust only lasted a few years. Statistically, the Holocaust doesn't' come close.
huh? THE holocaust? what are you talking about? I'm saying that A holocaust is worse than A slavery, answering the question. Besides which holocaust did you think I was talking about? There's been many throughout the years.
Why is it the finger gets pointed at white people as if they're the only ones responsible? Germany had millions of collaborators throughout the middle east when it was involved there in WW2, and not only did several Muslim countries take advantage of African slavery on a scale comparable to what happened in the US, but guess where America bought many of its African slaves from in the first place?
Slaves have been kept throughout history, from China to Rome to Egypt to Africa itself. Africans kept slaves before whites ever arrived there. In fact every ancient society in the world has practised slavery at some point in time. “Slavery Before the Europeans: Indigenous slavery had existed in Gambia (including the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa), well before the Europeans arrived (a somewhat similar situation to ancient Rome).” From here http://www.accessgambia.com/information/slavery-history.html
15 million slaves in four centuries? And how many died and had to suffer during the 2nd World War(Holocaust, to be specific), which didn't even last more than 6 years, because of racial/ethnical prejudice? Yeah...I think that sums it up.
but more slaves died than there were victims of the Holocaust. It's not just that they ended up slaves, its that millions died on the way and under slavery. And then there is the whole slavery thing they suffered if they survived. From here.... http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/warstatv.htm This is just the slave trade with the Americas. I also think it is silly to compare, but if you want to vote for one nightmare being worse, you should really know what the other nightmare actually was like.
