You are playing the blame game. Not good!

People who put on weight are not always lazy, or even ill disciplined. There are many reasons for being overweight, and trying to blame the people for their own problem is counter-productive. Sympathy and constructive, educated advice is much better.

And for morbidly obese people, surgery is the best option. It has the best proven track record, long term.

I still see people in this thread recommending tactics that work short term only. Certainly, a solid effort can cause a fat person to lose weight. Big deal! If the weight goes back on again, more harm is done than good. And, as I said, over a 5 year period, in 95% of cases, all the weight goes back on, and often even more. As SAM said, dieting puts the body into a mode where it conserves calories and just makes it even easier to get fatter.

So either use a method that works, or else forget about losing weight, and concentrate on improving health, which is much more achievable.

The only explanations for that would be that:

    1. As a reaction to dieting, your metabolic rate actually increased.
    That is unlikely.

    2. Your body was converting fat to calories very inefficiently.

    3. You were not losing as much weight as you thought you were.
What was your weight 6 months later?

    4. Some other factor was operating, which is as yet undiscovered.

I know you are a clever person Nirakar, but is it possible that your body fooled you?
It is good at doing that.

Your lack of sympathy for those less fortunate reflects a wider ignorance.

Being overweight is something that can come from a wide range of causes. Certainly you can be simplistic and say that it is eating too much for the energy you expend. Yes, but sometimes the fat person has a metabolism that continues to put on weight even on quite low calorific intake.

We all know people who can eat almost anything and not put on weight. There are an equal number of people who eat minimally and get fat. This is not their fault.

When young, most people are somewhat slim. This is due to the fact that young people have lots of 'brown' fat tissue. This tissue is geared to burning calories and generating heat. As you get older, the brown fat slowly disappears, and white fat increases. White fat is what builds up round the middle and gives the middle aged paunch. Without brown fat, people have to eat a lot less just to maintain weight. This is much tougher than most people realise. Appetite does not decrease in the way that calorific need decreases. Living with hunger is like living with a persistent toothache. Eventually it becomes almost unbearable, and you will do anything to end it. This means eating.

There are also people who live with strong psychological illness which drives them to eat. They would like to stop eating and lose weight, but cannot. To blame them for what is essentially an illness is reprehensible.

So how about a bit of compassion and human understanding?

I think that woman would be more attractive if she weighed more.

No, did not fool myself. Everything is inline with what a online calorie calculator says is plausible just based on my age, sex, height, weight, exercise and being on an 1100 calorie per day diet.

I was also using caffeine, green tea, Resveratrol, and CoQ10 to try to keep my metabolism up. Not that the science behind that is so solid except for the caffeine. Placebo effect metabolism increase? Weight lifting is not supposed to be much good for raising metabolism but maybe I was doing something different from what was in those studies.

My body runs freakishly warm in some ways normally. I don't get cold when everybody else is cold and I don't heat my house. So I lost 5 pounds a week for a few weeks. I lost 9 pounds the first week but that was water weight. Maybe all the raw cabbage I ate helped in some way.

Anyway, I know people can lose 5 pounds a week because I did it. Now I want to do it again.

Your 'slim girl' is quite unattractive. Anorexics are not good looking, as you already know.

The best female figures belong to young women who exercise a lot, and eat properly. Teenagers, or women in their twenties who dance, are gymnasts, practise aerobics etc. In other words, young women at the peak of health and fitness. Not sickly anorexics!

You swimmer gal is still quite attractive, and I bet her figure is great, though, as you say, her upper arms and shoulders are a bit too masculine. Any chance she might be 'supplementing' her muscle devlopment a bit, somewhat illicitly?

Maybe you could document your next diet on this thread.
Maybe you wouldn't like to do that, but it would be interesting if you did.

It would be useful if you could get one of those body fat index machines that pass an electric current through your body.
They quickly uncover false weight loss, because if your weight goes down through losing water or fibre, the fat percentage actually increases.

You probably don't want to hear this but if you really want to look and feel great, check into an organic raw vegan diet. Its not something I suggest you adopt overnight or without researching how to do it right, but I've never looked or felt better in my life. No processed sugars, no caffiene, and no alcohol. This diets been shown to get diabetics off insulin in 30 days.

I know a woman who had lap band surgery and as soon as she was able to eat semi solids put mac and cheese in a blender, then progressed to a candy bar a day.

A raw food diet is definitely a weight loss diet. I absolutely recommend no-one touch it with the proverbial 40 foot barge pole!

The human body has evolved to consume cooked food. We have the shortest gut for our body weight of any primate. We lose weight on raw food simply because we cannot absorb sufficient nutrients to maintain weight, with our limited alimentary canal. This also means we absorb too few nutrients other than calories.

This is not a healthy diet.

Skinny is not the same as healthy. More people world wide die early as a result of being underweight than those that die early as a result of being overweight.

As I said earlier, people should concentrate on diet and exercise for health, rather than a weight target. Being a bit overweight is not a big deal. Being unhealthy is.

that's because they don't have any food to eat. i'm quite healthy...5'5" and have never been below 117 lbs in my adult life...active, lots of energy. feels good!

as far as digestion is concerned, i was more than a bit gassy at first (thank god i was single at the time), but your system adapts just fine over time, and in the meantime, there's beano.
