Interesting fact, if you look up normal in the thesaurus, sane comes up as a synonym. We should petition to have that changed.
agrees.... petition congress to outlaw the use of them. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Er, it was a question... Did you miss this Oh dear... There is insufficient data to make a definitive statement about the size... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
The good thing about dealing with absolutes such as zero is there is no room for grey area. If duration is zero there is no need for any further information as.... well...zero is all there "isn't". I tried to explain this in the other thread concerning Zero Point Theory and how the use of absolutes simplifies things tremendously but failed to get past the "incredibility" issues. Simply put if t=0 duration then d = 0 in Einstein/Minkowski space time. So the moment that all measurements are taken the universe simply does not exist to measure as distance must = zero. But as you know the universe does indeed appear to exist and the solution as to why it appears so, is not so easy.
* * * * NOTE FROM THE LINGUISTICS MODERATOR * * * * The legal definition is the clearest: Asking questions like these will not make you unfit to sign a contract, will not cause you to be taken to a psych hospital, and will not absolve you of responsibility for your actions. In other words, you are not insane.
reminds me of Homer Simpson from the animated sitcom "the Simpsons" when he gets sent to a psych ward for wearing a pink shirt that got contaminated due to his sons red hat being included in the wash... thanks Fraggle Rocker....can I have the word "Sane" stamped on my wrist to avoid confusion? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
In another thread topic posted a while ago I posed the question: "Is the fear of loosing our minds or going crazy one of the greatest fears we as humans have?" I have found from experience associated with an unusual "stoke" [cerebrovascular accident ] that this certainly was one of my most terrible fears. The anxiety associated being cripplingly profound due to the incredible nature of how my perception had changed and what I was post-stroke, capable of percieiving. Taking over 20 years to work out and understand the nature of those perceptions whilst continuing to attempt to function in a way that is acceptable by society. The fear that everything I perceived was in some way halucinatory or a mirage was enormous at the time until I realised that halucinations or should I say the interpretation of those perceptions as halucination was symptomatic of the terrible anxiety, fear and resultant paranoia associated with the question: "Am I insane?" To consider your reality as considerably different to that of others in such a sigificant way naturally leads to such interpretations. IMO just thoughts....
People, here, toss around the word 'insane' occasionally in ways that are, well, not very scientific. I think they think they can sneak in this ad hom on some kind of technicality. Not sure why.
I think it is hard to imagine being crazy and still being you. It is a kind of death, at least from the outside. Of course, crazy is a floppy word. I think we might find that some kinds of 'going crazy' would lead to feeling more like ourselves.
They kept the word 'matter' even when it was applied to things that are not like what 'matter' used to mean. 'Matter' basically means anything that can be measured.
Years ago whilst in the process of recovery [ still am and always will be I might add] I realized that the notion of insanity is basically invalid except as a "other" relational paradigm. Meaning that it is the relationships with that which is external to us, regarding other people, culture and even environment, can indeed become and seem to be quite irrational to the point where insanity becomes an extreme descriptor. However IMO insanity does not exists as such as I believe that a person who exhibits relational behavior typically described as Insane or Crazy is really only a "sane" person struggling with his / her experience and not doing to well at it. Therefore reinforcing the ideal of "being perfect within yet imperfect without" This leads to the concept that Sanity is innate and possibly immutable, which is rather and intriguing view point. [again given the extremes of the last 20 years for me I have a certain advantage of experience to afford such a notion.]
