I watched Inception on Friday and was impressed by the creativity of this scifi and the director. I usually find the majority of scifi's comical along with horror movies and I don't watch kids movies and romantic movies make me want to cut myself, but this was a movie that I was actually entertained by. What happened to good american movies like; Forrest Gump, The Godfather, Star wars, etc. It seems the majority of movies today are very stupid and unimpressive, or is it just me?

2012 was amazingly dumb. But thank for the heads up about Inception, I will try to download it.

I agree but it did have some nice special effects and that's really what made the movie, not the writing or acting. But that's like many movies today but many of them don't even have the special effects to at least make them viewable.

Relaxed fantasy compared to the Matrix.

Especially the construction of the virtual environment is an open highway: Individual consciousness decides to be "there" (Where? There), while somebody else's consciousness (an architecture) gets involved to the environment via creating the set for a dream. Memory is not allowed (not because it can not; but principally prefer not to be due to its dangerous nature); yet subconsciousness is hired to randomly populate the environment with people. Paradoxical implications are practically endless.

All in all, different faculties of human brain can be used as parameters alongside allowing other people to share this environment -as if inviting friends to your home or opening your brain to others.

Inception reminds me of Dark City only not as good from what I've seen or heard about it.

What have you heard bad about it? All I've seen is good press and from the testimony of every person I know is that the movie is amazing.

Though, I also liked Dark City.

I can tell you this. Anyone who says they completely understood Inception are lying through their teeth. This is the type of movie that was made for repeat viewing. This movie is replete with a myriad of ambiguous plot twists that will befuddle even the most keen observer.

Here's my problem with the film. Christopher Nolan did a piss poor job with explaining the technology behind inception. It seems as If he was fixated on the ensuing gunfights instead of the science that made the sub-conscious extractions possible.

I'm excited about Inception, probably catch it this weekend or next. Not much else to get excited about in movie land, apart from Scott Pilgrim.

UP is fantastic, 2012 is drivel.

What science, what technology? It is not a film makers' job to invent a real technology to support a fantasy. Did you ask how machines create a visual environment in the Matrix? Do you know exactly what is the scientific credibility behind time travel in various science fiction movies? No. Because these are simply "irrelevant". The platform is human mind in Inception, that's it; all these suitcases, cables and other gadgets are there only to give some sense of transformation: "We are here now, push the button, now we are there", that's all we need to know.

Nobody can give you any non-existing science or technology; otherwise we would need to call it "science fact".

The technology that allowed a group of people to share, and be conscious inside of the sub-conscious mind of another.

Yes it is the film makers job to explain how something so extraordinary can be remotely possible. The Matrix did explain how it was technically possible. It informed the audience that after artificial intelligence was created, the machines decided unseat it's creators since we were overly dependent on them once they started to think for us. It also informed the audience that our reality can be augmented since our 5 senses operated based on the electrical signals that were fed in to it.

Any movie that had time travel as it's central plot, did explain, sometimes vaguely, how time travel was possible. Event Horizon, and De-Ja-Vu are 2 recent examples. Even the movie Dreamscape did a better job explaining how highjacking dreams were possible.

    Says who?

You mean that's all you need to know. It was a total copout in my opinion. It's going to take a quantum leap in technology before we have the technical capability to allow a group of individuals to consciously share the same dream. However, everything else that appeared in the film seems to indicate that technology in every other sector is the same as it exists today.

Bullshit, theoretical physics is used to explain a lot of things in science fiction movies. At least the ones I watch.

    Really, how?

What is the technology behind this artificial intelligence, how does it work?

Since the technological principles behind this artificial intelligence was not defined, the machines were given some mythology mission in plot (fight against creator... hahaha)

And Inception informed audience that our mind can experience a virtual reality through the faculties of brain (subconsciousness, consciousness and memory) which also work through electro-chemical signals. What's the difference?

Follow your logic: Any movie that used time travel must necessarily claim the possibility of time travel. Otherwise it wouldn't rely on such a pilot, would it? Question is this: How? Tell me a movie that gave you the exact scientific knowledge of time travel.

    .

What was the science and technology we learned from these movies in terms of how to hijack dreams? Examples, methods? Yes?

Says film history. For instance, have you ever watched a Hitchcock movie? The central theme is the suspense; all other weird reasons (which organization is following the main guy and why in North by Northwest, what was the madness behind Kim Novak's character in Vertigo, etc.) are irrelevant to the story, this is the margin left to audience to figure out. But even if they don't, it still doesn't make any harm to the plot.

So you are still bound to give an example which technological working mechanism or scientific information you obtained from which sci-fiction movie.

It's all about correct representation of electrical signals of the brain. Since you are such an expert from the earlier dream hijacking movies, tell us what kind of technology we need?

Everything you watched could be a dream as well, so it's totally irrelevant which time period is used. Remember Matrix: They were from future, but battleground was 1990s.

Example? Not for "bullshit" please, for theoretical physics...

Inception does require extreme attention from the beginning, but it's all worth it at the end. There is a main plot which is the Inception and a sub plot about the main characters problems.
