The surviving native Americans have not forgotten what happened.

There was also mass fetish in Germany during the 1970s and 1980s for all things native American.

Genocide never had the same degree of stigma that it has now prior to post WW2 condemnation of the Holocaust. The Bible praises some genocides as being good and God's will and condemns other genocides as being bad and not God's will.

I hope the stigma against genocide lasts forever but there is no reason to believe that the stigma against genocide will stay in place.

Clearly on average history is inaccurate and is biased in favor of the victors.

First of all, the US did not turn the tide of war in the European theater. Russia did. The US simply helped by spreading out Nazi forces by creating a second
d front. Russia is the main force, losing 25 million people.By far more than any other county involved. Yet, they were already starting to overwhelm the Nazies before the US hit the beach. We did however completely dominate Japan. To some degree I would have to concur on the matter of winners write history. But with 700 billion potential witnesses the truth will always be found.

Although, with this many "potential witnesses" the maths may not work correctly...

The Pangalactic Empire has been watching us for some time. We are, to them, what the Jersey Shore is to us.

All history is exaggeration. Well, much of it.

Certainly the older stuff. Apparently someone called Pheidippides ran the 150 miles from Athens to Sparta in two days (yeah, right) to ask them to come to the Athenians' aid against the Persians. (Unfortunately, the Spartans wouldn't go because there wasn't a full moon.)

Any story that gets re-told tends to have its dull bits dropped and its good/exciting bits highlighted. King Alfred burning the cakes managed to slip through, though.

I don't think it was just because he lost the war. I think overseeing a programme of extermination of over 6 million people might have had something to do with his being labelled evil.

There are actually plenty of arguments on both sides of that one. Maybe because you live in the US you mainly hear only one side of that argument.

What we'd be taught is one thing. What would be the fact of the matter may well be another.

I think that democracy is demonstrably the best form of government. Democracies generally have the happiest, wealthiest people. I think that is a fact pretty well beyond dispute.

I have to disagree with this.

Virtually all historical "facts", except for the most banal, are subject to interpretation. Historical events are inevitably seen from the point of view of somebody. Which "facts" are kept in or out of "history" is partly a matter of choice or focus.

That would be 6 million Jews. The total number of people exterminated in the Holocaust is at least twice that many.

You seem to be misreading him - the argument he advanced there (winner's justice, plain and simple) is not a popular or establishment-approved one in the US.

Moreover, if you're going to impute cultural bigotry onto someone, you should take care to avoid arguing from a bigoted view of their culture in the process. Pots and kettles and all that.

I'm not real sure about that. . . any statistics to back that up? I really don't think most Americans give a shit about what happened. If they did, they would quit celebrating the genocide every Columbus Day. The native populations have made it quite clear how they feel about the institutionalization of Columbus Day, yet, the ruling elites continue with this disgusting celebration of their conquest, victory and complete annihilation of nearly every nation that once existed in the new world.

To read Columbus' journal is something akin to reading a Steven King novel, yet to this day it is commemorated still. . . out of what, sheer ignorance? Nahh. . . it is a purposeful Illuminati celebration. i.e. The District of Columbia, Columbia Pictures, Columbia College, the space shuttle Columbia, British Columbia, Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS), the Columbine shootings, Lady Liberty, a couple state capitals, a music company, a clothing company, etc. etc. etc.

. . . oh yeah. . . everyone simply agrees the treatment of the original peoples was bad, that is why everything that can be done to right the situation is being done. . . uh huh. .

The day they want to atone is the day they fund the crazy horse memorial, blow up Mt. Rushmore and tear down lady liberty.

    quadraphonics:

    Picky picky!

That would be why I used the words "over 6 million people", and did not refer to Jews.

    Well, I stand corrected.

Good point. I agree entirely. Relevance?
