It doesn't look like that to me, though.

    Good questions!

Post a new thread for them, to give them proper attention.

So if someone says to you that they believe/ don't believe in god, if they don't behave the way you think they're supposed to you assume they're lying?

    Look at John's original claim:
How should one behave if one is a declared atheist? I wasn't aware there was a set of rules/ strictures for atheists.
    Maybe I missed that class...

One may believe and only give lip service to that belief, no?
It depends how much they believe as to how they behave.

Which has nothing to do with being an atheist or a theist.

No one was created. We grew out of conditions on this planet.

No. If they themselves see their daily life as something separate from their beliefs, then there is something fishy.

I know of a self-declared Buddhist who said words to the effect of "I don't let my religious beliefs get in the way of my lifestyle".

Sure one's beliefs, or lack thereof, should be reflect in the way one goes about one's daily life, no?

For example, when someone sneezes, what do you say?

Same goes for lack of belief.
Imagine that - a lip service atheist!

So there is a scale of intensity of belief -
"I lukewarmly believe that Jesus is the Son of God"
"I warmly believe that Jesus is the Son of God"
"I hotly believe that Jesus is the Son of God"

    -?

    Impotent theists.

Seriously. I blame atheism largely on people who are in position of theistic authority on earth, but who are not mature in their theism.
Ie. Pharisees in their various guises.

I am the son of God, listen to me!
    I am a liar!

Maybe they just have a different take on what behaviour is required.

How does one behave to evidence the lack of belief in god?
Maybe I should start sacrificing virgins. Again. It gets so tedious after a while though...

Me? Gesundheit, if I say anything.

How about "I'm fairly sure there is a god" ranging to (for example: Lori) "there absolutely is a god and he talks to me"?

Atheists created themselves ( not literally ), they made the choice to adopt atheism as a belief. They believe they are created by their parents, not false at all.

Saying "Gesundheit" instead of "God bless you", for example.

(You'd have to refrain from "OMG", "Geez" and such too.

It's like I'm in the twilight zone. People's parents don't create their children. The laws of physics do. When you introduce human sperm into a human egg, their chemical compositions react and result in a human child after an approximate 9 month gestation period. Parents don't get to design their children, and build their little legs from primitives, and give them super vision. This means all humans are not "created".

Saying "God bless you" or "OMG" etc could just as well be an habit picked up from people around you.
I'm fairly sure you know this..

It's strange for a self-declared atheist to say those things, isn't it?
I would expect more awareness from people on how they express themselves.

I say it all the time, it's just a cultural trait, not a statement of belief.

sometimes i wonder about you. if one says 'holy cow' do you really think that they believe cows are holy? or really meant cows literally?

maybe in india perhaps. otherwise, it's just an expression.
