    Welcome.

My name is "R Wahdy" for all intents and purposes-- I'm a college student majoring in Economics (AKA "Guess-anomics"), but with a very wide palette in regards to interests, particularly math and physics. Incidently, I'm bad at both of those subjects, and I've often lurked in the dark shadows of this amazing forum to find tough answers for easy questions.

I'm also an American Muslim-- born and raised in the US of A (Silicon Valley represent!), but also adhere to a more orthodox and puritanical form of Islam (which I've studied since I was but a wee lad) for my own religious beliefs. In case you're about to have a panic attack-- don't worry, the title of this thread is satirical in nature.

Bit more about me-- I'm a closet geek...which means that I wear RL Polo attire while checking out engadget/google news/nature.com on my Droid X. Yes, Droid X, no pansy iPhone (although if you happen to be a female viewer, the iPhone is such a good phone, isn't it? Like amagawd, it's so hawt!). I also love deep and high, and occassionally, high, fantasy. Tad Williams, C.S. Friedman, Patricia McKillip-- some of my favorite names in the genre (besides THE TOLKIEN). Star Wars > Star Trek-- sorry, but Spork or whatever his name is no where as cool as Han Solo (both are great, but obviously Star Wars is the motherfu'ing Star Wars). I love computer RPG's- Oblivion, MB Warband, Fallout: NV, Dragon Age Origins and 2, ME 1 & 2, etc, etc. I'm a relative noob in the nugaming era (after Diablo 1 & 2, I took a hiatus from most games until last year or so, so if you have a game to suggest to me-- DO IT). Anyway, I'm a relatively cool chap, and I'm looking forward to meeting more of you, and hopefully enrich, engage, and enlighten myself in my time here.

Feel free to ask me questions, pop me a message, and add me on msn. Oh, and I'm DTD (down to debate), although only if I'm allowed to bs.

Annnndddd, because infinity is so cool, and we all hate endings...

Plenty of Muslims are more secular than many Americans. Our fight is between those that support secular democracy and those that support theocratic dictatorship in any form. My question to RWahdy would be, does he think that Islam can form a better basis for the government of nations than secularism?

If you throw up a silicon valley gang sign, does it involve making a square with your thumbs and index fingers?

    .

what makes you think, that those who are secular to you, and muslims, are secular, and not muslims, means, understand their relegion and learn from it by mind and understanding, and proofs, not by, that because that, a muslim, and who pratice islam very good, like pray hes five prayers each day and etc... and you'll find to see, that he's secular, secular doesnt mean to be against the person's relegion, secular can go along with relegion
anyway, that depends of your understanding on being secular, if you mean, more secular than americans, in practicing, like drinking alcoholics and etc... (wich are normal things to americans),or if you mean more secular in the thinking, and opinions, and education and etc... and also practice he's relegion good and etc...
depends on how you explain secular, if you mean by secular, like, the desire to know, to discuss, to understand, and etc... to want to learn, to not take anything without proofs and understanding, actually islam insure that, the first words in quran were "read" and etc.. so can go along side byside, if not as one
as your question, can islam make better bases than secularism, depends, on how are those people using islam, either they are using it, as it is, and with understanding, and the islam who command you to nottake anything or beleive, without being convinced, and with proofs and etc... includes the islam beleifs itself, because everything have a reason and reasenbal explenation to it, and if you mean, islam that tells, to respect other's choice, butyou have to tell them and try to convince them via disucssing and explaning, and the rest is between that person and god, and god will judge us all in the judgement day, and it's not you who is going to judge him for he's thoughts and beleif, and etc... the real islam, or, the islam, or, the so called islam, that says, women must not leave their houses and must not work and etc.... (wich have no proofs in quran) and etc....
so, there's a difference, if you mean the real islam, and enlightened islam, not the islam that some people or groups say, and some medias try to show and concentrate on it, and etc... (wich resulted, and increase of the hate crimes towar muslims in usa, and may go seriously, as to what happened to blacks in the past, as you see, like burning the qurans, and the protestations in pakistan against that, and etc... if usa continued that, what may happen, again, MAY, would be like what happened to the black people, however, time changed, so things would be more different and more intervention to fix the problem and etc... anyway, still wan't be very good thing, however, i'm being optimist and saying things will be alright, and it will be worked out, and americans will propably understand, and etc... the americans who do the hate crimes i mean, and everything will be fine)

so, your question, is kinda useless, you have to clarify more

so, my answer, when it is the real islam, the enlightened islam, not the islam, that some groups pertend to use, and some medias concentrate on it,yes it can make better basis, however, it's not the relegion, or the system, that makes a country bases better or worse, it's the people who do that, and the people who reach the power, and etc... it's about the people, anything can be used in both and good way to the nation
so, to me, your question is, nonsense

Your statement to me is hard to figure out, it's a word salad. But I will try to make myself more clear. When I say secular, that means that religion and politics should be separate. Not that religion cannot inform your political views, but that the government of a state should have nothing to do with promoting religion of any kind. Islam is unique in that it is often interpreted to say it's the perfect system for governing a society, a theocratic dictatorship in other words. Thankfully, many American Muslims do not believe this. I will not tolerate theocracy.

i fail to see how religion can inform a person about political views.
does this happen to mean morals and ethics?

I take it you have never been to or heard of any middle eastern countries where alcohol is illegal or invoke sharia law

then of course we have dominionist movements in countries like the us

man i haven't been so excited about a new member joining like this[if at all] since i first got into sciforums...
you and i are VERY similar, although i don't give a damn about either star wars or star trek, nor own an "underweed" cell[my loyalty's to nokia], and i definitly don't have a smooth writing as you do.
but apart from that, we're pretty much twins
