As you may know, Donald Trump is currently planning to run as a Republican for the upcoming 2012 election...and if he doesnt get the nomination he may just spend a billion or two running as an independent.

He wrote a book several years ago called 'The America We Deserve' in which he proposed a ONE TIME net worth tax of 14% on all Americans worth more than $10 million...for the purpose of wiping out the federal debt.

That was then...the numbers have changed (for the worst) and he may have changed his mind, but we all should know that merely taxing the wealthy on income isnt going to cut it.

    Here are the numbers:

I hope he doesn't, for his own sake.

There is a lot of "bloat" in Government agencies, and they probably could do with an audit and then a slow weaning period for them to restructure. However, cutting expenses will only solve some of the problems. For others, we will need to raise taxes-- especially on the top 1-5% bracket.

Trump has the potential to be a loose cannon perhaps.

I like some of what I hear.

His tough on China attitude is a welcome thing to hear. Protective tariffs on Chinese goods and REAL free trade would be good.

He wants to raise taxes on Chinese imports...25%.

He also wants to stay in Iraq and withdraw it from OPEC, so America will have a supply of oil at $30/barrel thereabouts.

He doesnt want FREE trade...he wants FAIR trade.

He will be slammed for starting a trade war.

His position is that we already had a trade war...and America lost.

Now how is Trump going to make Iraq withdraw from OPEC? The reality is ther is nothing Trump could do as president to make Iraq withdraw from OPEC. And if Trump were to even try, he would face the wrath of the Saudi's. This is just red meat for the Tea Partiers and party devotees.

Trump is smart enough to know that this would cause an economic disaster for which his name would always be associated if he started a mega trade war with our major trading partners. This is again just like his birther talk, red meat for the Republican devotees.

Trump believes that US prosperity and growth is severely impaired when oil costs over 30-40 dollars a barrel.

He hasnt stated HOW to make Iraq withdraw from OPEC...which would be considered an illegal price-fixing cartel in America.

However, since IRAQ is currently a puppet state, dropping out of OPEC would be a breeze.

    Wrath of the Saudis??? Please!

I disagree with Trump on this point. To bring down the price it would be far more effective to require ALL oil futures contracts to take physical delivery, instead of speculating.

Again, the mega trade war has already been fought and lost.

Look at Russia, it doesn't belong to OPEC but is the largest producer of oil in the entire world. Russia reaps the benefits of these high oil prices because it keeps the Mid East in an uproar. Russia wants to keep everyone at war and supplies the weapons, military aid and even Russian personnel to help with keeping the problems perpetuated. They gain as well as the other OPEC nations to make sure wars continue to push the costs ever upward for absolutely no other reasons than to make more money. More oil is being pumped today than there was just 5 years ago so we all know that supply isn't a problem at all. it is all contrived by PUTIN in Russia working with his "sphere of influence" all over the world.

The US gets most of its oil from non-OPEC nations.

Another reason I disagree with Trump.

So then how is removing Iraq from OPEC going to help reduce costs when Russia is manipulating the oil game?

I dont know about Russia, but Trump's plan is to buy Iraqi oil at cost.

And this would require withdrawing from the cartel.

Iraq only produces about 2 percent of the worlds oil supply. So I ask again how does removing Iraq from OPEC make the cost of oil go down? If Russia keeps the prices high then Iraq oil will cost the same to everyone because if you are or are not in OPEC you reap the higher prices that are being artificially created by Russian manipulation.

Because when you OWN the oil you dont have to buy it.

But you will as American oil companies are doing now. They are selling over 4 million gallons of American oil to other countries to make more money instead of using that oil in America to help American citizens. The oil companies are always looking out to reap profits and are in collusion with Russia to do just that.

Yes, but American oil companies are not the American government.

The Trump plan is for the government to take (not buy) Iraqi oil and sell it to American distributors at the production cost.

Thats very different than selling it on the futures market where speculation bumps up the price.

And who is to say who gets how much, who will sell this oil to other countries anyway and who will insure that everything goes as planned?

Yes the solution is to address the issues in commodities speculation...not the elaborate and unattainable plan Trump gave voice to.

The solution to America's energy problems is what T. Boone Pickens has been saying for years now...natural gas. And if Trump were as smart as he thinks he is, he would have known that. All this nonsense about Iraq is j ust red meat for right wing devotees, just like his recent birther talk.

Trump will have to ensure that the US distributors getting all this cheap oil will not turn around and sell it off shore.

I dont agree with the plan...it would be much better to require all futures contracts to take physical delivery.
