    Anyway...

JamesR, it's nice how you want to come and stick to the decisions and it seems that you truly believe that you are doing sf a service by getting rid of the most brilliant, amusing, witty people on here.
That makes a lot of sense if the objective of sf is to be a very dull place.

In that case, you guys are running a very successful campaign. Get all these damn trouble makers bored out of their minds and leaving, is that what you're doing?
It's working. You have me cringing at pretty much all your posts along with half of the people here, who are over 60 years old people writing 4000 thousand word posts about irrelevant shit that I'd read elsewhere if I cared.

In fact, I don't know why the fuck I keep coming here. I wish I had some balls to scratch.

*Predicts that the reply will be along the lines "you are welcome to leave"*

    BTW you fucking suck.

    Apparently not......

I quoted one of the posters and as the quote contained urban slang or vulgar terminology for male and female anatomy, my post was removed as well even though the words that I contributed were correct English.

Throughout this forum I observe considerable language that is questionable, yet there seems to be no consistently applied rule across the board.

    Somewhat confusing and arbitrary. :bugeye:

    Hello Varda,

This is about the first time you've ever directly addressed me, isn't it? What a good start. Nice to meet you.

As I said above, each to her own. Your definition of brilliant, witty and amusing is obviously a little different from mine. I find poo jokes and foul language juvenile, but maybe to you they are brilliant and witty - who knows?

I make no apologies for failing to cater to a bunch of schoolyard foul-mouths, which is what some of your heroes in this thread turned out to be. Of course, maybe they are different when they're not here. Maybe they are even capable of acting like adults. But judging by the behaviour I've observed in their clubhouse, I doubt it.

We did most of the cleaning you're complaining about a couple of years ago, I think. And it's only now that you decide you don't like the results?

Besides, those people all quite deliberately and willingly and knowingly got themselves banned from here. They decided that if they weren't allowed to piss all over this forum, then they would leave and go piddle elsewhere.

There are only a few people who are over 60 years old here - I'd estimate about 3 or fewer regulars. The average age here would be somewhere between 18 and 24, I'd say.

If you really don't like the discussions here, why stay? Go find a forum that suits you better. Or start a blog. Join Facebook. Or (here's a radical idea) get out in the real world and meet some real people. I'd hate to think that we're keeping you tied to your chair reading all the rubbish all us old fuddy-duddies write. Oh, hang on, you don't read it, you say. What do you read here? In fact, why are you here at all?

On a personal level, I'm surprised with all the cringing you do at my posts that this is about the first time you've ever taken direct issue with anything I've written. Bottling up all that anger can't be good for you. You ought to tell me when I'm wrong about stuff. Don't tell me that I bore you, though. Nobody is forcing you to read my posts. It's not up to me to entertain you.

You probably need to sort yourself out. Work out why you do come here. Work out whether you want to stay or leave. Take some responsibility for your own life. Make yourself a happier person.

Of course you're welcome to leave. Or stay. Understand, though, that this place will never return to the "good old days" when your heroes from that other forum ran around cursing and pissing and generally discouraging new people from posting here. If that's what you want, you'd probably be better off joining them in their new home.

Is that just a generalised insult, or do you want to give me a few reasons?

As I recall, spurious asked to be banned.

    /checks ban list

In which case, what is the protocol if a member who is banned Per request (really shame) desires to be reinstated?

Can they request to be unbanned per request?

spuriousmonkey did request to be allowed back here a while ago. He was informed that he could return if he made a full apology to all the moderators and administrators of sciforums, and posted that apology prominently on his own site as well.

Apparently, his request to return was not made in good faith. Probably he just wanted to come back to kick up more trouble. When he was reasonably asked to apologise for past behaviour, that was apparently too much to ask and he quickly retreated.

Since then, he has continued to endorse, participate in and encourage the insulting of sciforums and its moderators/administrators on his own site. And apparently he has no problems with one of his good buddies (also banned from here) deliberately setting out to attack sciforums in any way he can (e.g. by committing as many direct acts of vandalism as he can instigate).

If he was banned at his request, why would he need to apologise for unbanning? I can't believe Plazma would be so irrational so this must be your idea

    Is sciforums a sacred cow?

There is a reasonable consensus among the moderators that this thread ought to be closed, before it becomes (more) inflammatory.

Before that, though, I'd like to give sniffy and Varda the last word - or at least a chance to respond to my posts above if they wish.

The only person inflammatory in this thread so far is James R. If this thread was scrubbed to remove all posts by James R and responses to his posts it would be a nice thread reminiscing about the older members who have made substantial contributions to the forums for many years.

I'd have to look back at his "request" to comment on that. From memory, I think his "request" consisted of directly insulting administrators until there was no option but to ban him. Even if that wasn't quite the case, he would have been banned without the need for any "request" from him, a matter of hours or days later at the most, on the basis of his appalling behaviour.

The main point, though, which you seem to have missed, is that he has given no sign at any time up to the present that he has changed any of his opinions, attitudes or behaviours such that he would be welcome here again. Read my previous posts for more information.

Yeah. I took over Plazma's account and banned him in Plazma's name. Or, alternatively, Plazma, an owner of sciforums, is really a sock puppet of mine. Or else I psychologically control him so he implements all my wishes without my even having to ask.

    Yeah, right. That's plausible, SAM.

Is spurious a sacred cow? You'd be forgiven for thinking so, given this adulatory thread in his honour.

Are you the kind of guy that holds a grudge James ? I never saw you that way before . Most of the time I dream you are a very level headed Person . I know I know , but science is all about the argument after all. What ever weapon is in the arsenal so to speak . I am not one to hold a grudge my self . A fast little blow up and wham "tension release' . Better than drugs . Almost as good as sex . God what I missed by not being part of the information age , but then I was busy being a social slave so weren't my fault. I wonder why he won't post the apology . Guess He don't want to be here that bad . Pride I bet ! 2 prideful "dick wavers"
War! what is it good for

Remember who you're talking about here. Look at the list in the OP. Why don't you review the "substantial contributions" of those people?

Weren't you a moderator when those people were banned, by the way?

Roman was banned for "antisemitism" and Dr Lou just disappeared into the void [along with some other people I miss, i.e. invert nexus and whatzisname with the Charles Manson face

Roman is having waaaay too much fun anyway, so I doubt he misses us at all.

I keep forgetting you don't read all the sentences and hence don't understand the posts you respond you. I was referring to the apologia for unbanning per request.

He's definitely YOUR sacred cow considering your over reaction to a three year old self requested ban. Its interesting to read your responses in this thread and compare them with the comments that other people have made.

Yup so I was - notice anyone having a hissy fit here?

I prefer to organise my life so that I don't have to associate with people against whom I might have reason to hold a grudge. I find that works out pretty well most of the time. If you fixate on people you don't like, you give them power over you.

    I'm glad.

I must say I'm not exactly a "turn the other cheek" kind of guy, but that's not quite the same thing as holding grudges. It's more about having self-respect and solid moral values that you're willing to stand up for.

    1. Because he doesn't want to come back here.
    2. Because he thinks that to do so would be to lose face.
    3. Because he doesn't believe he did anything wrong.
    4. Because he believes he was the wronged party.
    5. Because he is not honest in his declared intentions to make amends.

Really any or all of the above, or some other reason. Who cares? This is ancient history, anyway. Most of the stuff being talked about in this thread happened years ago. Why don't we just move on?

    SAM:

    Yes.

    Meh. Whatever.

You don't think that asking for a public apology from him was reasonable after his appalling behaviour? Fine. That's not the only screwy opinion I've seen from you. Just add it to the list.

What are you talking about? This thread is a new thread started by Varda. It has nothing to do with self-requested bans.

Yes. Isn't it? Hence the need for some balance and reflection and honest appraisal. Somebody had to inject a bit of that, don't you think?

I would say that James R holds grudges longer than anyone else I have seen on this forum.

Remind me what you are referring to. The fact that he asked for a ban?
