Today's Dilbert rather put me in mind of some of the threads at this forum, lol, and so I thought I really must share it.

I am serious, actually. I had ordered some books on conflict resolution a while back, and they arrived just yesterday.

From what I've read there so far, it looks like the way conflict tends to be approached at SF, is classified under "Five popular (but ineffective) approaches to conflict resolution."

Well post what you think the effective approaches to conflict resolution are but I'll give you a useful preventative point:

If you are conflict averse provocation is not a good strategy.

I am seriously conflict adverse, having been raised in a house divided and frightened by loud arguing and domestic violence as a child.

NO, NO, NO. Not desired in my life.

Therefore I keep the majority of my opinions to myself and seek to understand both sides of an issue or conflict, though seldom siding with either.

Not saying that I never stand my ground, only that it is advisable to chose one's battles, and the majority of 'yak' is not sufficient reason to engage.

Most of my posts are designed to encourage further contemplation and dialogue, not to undercut another.

Observation and research will eventually determine the facts without the sacrifice of egos.

At least you didn't find the Swastika that Jones (Dolphin) generates while cracking encryption. Anyhow if the dolphin was the owner, that would mean the merry band of moderators would be Lowtek's, However I'm pretty sure most of them aren't into the cyberpunk genre enough to even know the film (or short story) that it was from.

Well sometimes conflict is necessary. It should not be a constant state as it is very debilitating, fatal even.

Have you seen me blasting my opinions all over the place? Do you think my original post in this thread was in any way design to provoke conflict? Hint: There are pictures of hat wearing hamsters in some of them.

Whilst I agree some battles are worth standing ones ground for in order to be against

Trying to use unarmed civilians as human shields would be one.
Firing upon unarmed civilians would be another.
Using other people to fire your bullets for you yet another.
I'm not much down with hostage taking either.

But, of course, the waters are muddy on all of these issues. Especially when one party has all the power of the institution behind them.

    See above.

Shame James didn't do something other than ad homonenemon to establish some facts. You will note some of my posts containing some facts have been cunt cut.

your idealism is misplaced and unrealistic. for instance. a member, here for years, low post count, surfaces only when a specific topic crops up. what demands are you making of him?

do you have any specific examples because i do not see any problems there. what does the belief entail? fairies? geocentrism? global warming hoax?

again, the devil is in the details.

please read krugman again. i have seen the cult of balance play out here and it is utterly bogus and irrational. opinion, can conceal, by way of consequence and implication, a multitude of sins. people do have nefarious agendas they propagate by seemingly innocuous propositions

you do not get to come here and play us for fools.
that will only earn you a sound trashing

    oh please
"dumbfucksci" may meander but it comes to a screeching halt right at james's feet

lest that appear as absolute indictment of james, i'll offer up a nuance

that said, i think we can dispense with resolving arguments with timed apologies and a ban stick. discredit and then refuse an audience. if the failed opinion persists, it is spam. penalize accordingly. that should be preferred and rational way and is relatively pain free

I'm not surprised that you find my posts boring; you are not my target audience.

A self-proclaimed armchair psychologist, I find it interesting to study the various methodologies of communication between people and as I work graveyard shift, this doubles as research/social life, lol.

I do find it interesting that you are known on the forum as 'the Bug Lady' and the bones you posted a couple of months back were interesting as well.

Actually, my target audience is anyone who reads and responds in more than one sentence, and less than a novel, so I do understand why some of my posts bore you to snores, lol....
