Hi all, Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a grad student in neuroscience/neuroengineering who's interested in studying and decoding language from the brain. I look forward to getting to know you all and participating in these forums!
hmm... i guess you could consider chilis herbs if you consider herbs any plant that's used to give a particular flavor or scent. hot flavored herb?
Interesting . I just saw some stuff on that on one of the threads . That is heavy duty stuff ! I commend you on your wants . Welcome to the Greatest Information Cross Roads of the world . You never know who you might run into around hea . I would not take anything to serious around here if you want to keep your sanity, but then again Sanity is over rated . Boring!!! To be a Mad scientist in the day of rage is hip and this be the place . Taboo ? What is that ? Not here .
Thanks for the warm welcomes all. I'm here to kind of not think so seriously about science (since that seems to be what I do all day) and have some fun about what got me into science in the first place.
Neuroengineering???? Need a human guinea pig for an in-brain math processing unit? *looks incredibly hopeful*
And what was that? Welcome to the circus, which ring will you be using, we have unlimited rings here you know. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I have 5 rings, myself. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Welcome to the place, Herb, pleased to meet you. I hope you enjoy your time with us.
Haha, if my advisor, and the institutional review board, would let me, I would have implanted myself with one of our microelectrodes long ago and tried controlling a computer cursor with my mind. We have have openings for healthy subjects, I'll let you know. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Absolutely no relationship whatsoever.
Very cool. Welcome to the boards. While we're on the topic..... you wouldn't happen to know if any neuro-chemical algorithms have been discovered yet - as far as something that can be used as a discernible datastream? Yeah yeah - I know. This kind of topic probably deserves its own thread, and not something that belongs as a quick reply in your 'hello thread' haha.
I'm not completely sure what you mean by neuro-chemical algorithms, but in terms of extracting information from the brain that carries some type of temporal information, yes, there are quite a few different measures, some better than others. Basic EEG and MEG measure electrical/magnetic activity from populations of neurons. Intracranial EEG measures smaller populations of neural activity directly on the brain surface, and a lot of different microelectrodes allow you to see the specific firing patterns of single neurons or small groups of neurons. These have all be used in humans to varying degrees of success for neural prostheses. In terms of measuring the "chemical" activity of the brain, groups are developing sensors for the various neurotransmitters, although I don't believe any have been used in humans yet. They're still fairly experimental and are mainly used in animal models.
Welcome herbbread...so...I'm wondering...are we talking about parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme bread...or something that makes you laugh at "Adult Swim" cartoons? J/k...your posts so far seem to be very informed...we can always use that to offset posts by members like me. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Welcome!
lots of brains here to study..some even work right.. what kind of herb did you say was in your bread?..Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!mPlease Register or Log in to view the hidden image!) if you want Logic and reason, stay away from the religion forum..Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! welcome. Green chiles are good, so long as they are firm and shiny. If there's green chili in the back of your fridge...you should not even feed that to the dawg. Special points if it's furry though. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Uh...you gotta clean out that fridge more often, young lady. Don't let the dog help though. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Green(and red) chili's are very popular in my neck of the woods.. i get all sorts of flack when i say i don't like them..
