How many monitors?

Gnome 3's terrible support for multiple monitors really rides on the coat-tails of a larger movement of migrating desktop environments to portable devices. I think we could predict poorly thought out multiple-monitor layouts in the future Windows 8 as well, their media center already jumped ship on that.

For something of a small poll...how many monitors do YOU use? How common are multiple monitors today?

2, though due to restrictions on the way most games fucntion they find limited use as a pair and more so I can read and game or surf multiple web pages at a time.
Some full screen games let the mouse run to the other screen and some don't, takes some getting used to.

I have 2 , one for my daily things I enjoy doing and the other on the market.

 

My friend's a forex trader. He's shown me some of the 4 panel setups you can configure for trading. I'd guess you're not a trade .1 pennies kind of guy then.

 

When in an optimal environment I go with two separate computers with a monitor each, while indeed it is possible to split things between screens on one machine, you tend to end up with a resource strain on the system.

Two machines allows say a programming environment to be maintained on one while the other allows for hunting for material, emailing, general internal communication etc.

As for multiscreen gaming, there isn't many that have truly pushed full usage, some allow for internal game maps to be displayed on one screen but usually GFX cards can only pipeline fully rendered graphics to one and "2D" to the other (unless potentially SLI related)
