When the US spends more money to produce oil, the Arab OPEC opens the spigot, lowering the prices. It's extortion. Blame Bush and the Republicans for using the Arabs to extort the U.S. for there own personal profit goals--The Republicans are international profiteers, with no soul or loyalty to country. We the free people hate to be forced down a narrow pathway. The U.S. public were fooled into supporting the wrong side.
That's not exactly true, we can just barely produce what we use each year, and there simply isn't that much in storage compared to what we use each month so supplies are inherently tight, but we can't produce all the world would use at a somewhat lower price, so yes there is a shortage of the product. As the price rises it simply prices people out of using it. I missed this the first time through. This is absolutely NOT true. We have NET imports of Crude oil of ~9 Million Barrels of OIL per day. We haven't been able to meet our own demand for oil for over half a century. http://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=pet&s=mcrimus1&f=a
Might this have something to do with gas prices: EPA Official's 'Philosophy' On Oil Companies: 'Crucify Them' - Just As Romans Crucified Conquered Citizens
Not totally unexpected from the EPA, but still I don't think that has much to do with gasoline prices as the EPA doesn't have much impact on the Global price of oil.
Do you have something more substantial and credible other than this right wing source which not known for it's honesty or accuracy in reporting?
Is there such a thing as an environmentally safe human being? We are a part of the environment.... no?
An ad I came across: Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! http://www.freedomworksforamerica.org/pledge-to-vote-for-mourdock-on-may-8th?source=AWVMI didn't know the Senator from Indiana could end the EPA. Lugar really has been slacking off!
So the answer is you don't have a credible source. Nor do you have any evidence that the Obama administration has done anything remotely close to crucifying anyone.
Not at all. The original video has been pulled, but it was viewed by many people before it was pulled and the EPA has now apologized: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505245_162-57422864/epa-official-apologizes-for-use-of-word-crucify/
Unlikely. By the way, this is the same idea behind cops giving speeders tickets. They don't have to ticket everyone, they just make examples of a few and the rest get the message. If you want an EPA that bends over for corporate profits, vote GOP.
Obama has opened up unprecedented areas of federal land for drilling. According to the Bureau of Land Management, the agency tasked with reporting oil drilling permits and new wells etc has reported that in 2001, the Bush administration approved only 3,439 increasing slightly to 3,802 by 2003. It wasn't until 2004 that Bush doubled permits approved, but then dropped dramatically back down to 4,579 in 2005. In 2009 under President Obama, there were 4,487 oil drilling permits approved to drill on federal land and in 2010 there were 4,090 permits issued and finally by 2011 there were 4,244. Obama moves to speed up drilling on public lands
Domestic oil production is up 15% since Obama took office reversing a decade of declining production. Domestic oil production declined 14 percent under the George II administration. I guess Mad thinks the Obama administration should not have made BP clean up the mess it created in the Gulf of Mexico.
That is despite Obama's best efforts, not because of them. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Oh, I don't suppose you have any proof of same? How about including the number of permits issued for wells on private lands - the other half of the story - and how about using credible resources, something other than "therightwingscoop"? Why are you only looking at federal lands? Why are you not looking at total oil permits issued - not just those issued for public lands? Is oil only found on public land? Why have you not included permits issued for oil wells on private lands? Most of the new wells are going in on private land (e.g. the Bakken, Marcellus and Eagleford). My guess is because, not unlike many other issues, the data just does not support your political ideology and your claims/representations. President Obama has streamlined the permitting process for public lands going from almost a year to 60 days. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/obama-administration-looks-speed-permitting-122000545.html The oil industry has a backlog of permits already issued - ready for construction but not acted upon by the industry. http://wilderness.org/files/Fact Sheet Drilling in America February 2011.pdf And the bottom line here is that domestic oil production is up 15% for the three years of the Obama administration versus being down 14% under 8 years of a Republican administration and congress.
I think faux news needs to offer madanthonywayne a job, he'll fit right in. That is if he doesn't already work for them.
Oil & Gas Shortage It is not even really the supply and demand. Oil and gas are commodities which means they are traded as futures and that sets the price. There is actually no shortage of oil at this point, uncertainty in the mideast has cause the futures prices to increase. It's certainly true that he could put into place policies that would lower prices, but granting permits to exploit new oil sources would still be just a drop in the bucket in the short to medium term (say 5 years...and possibly longer...this is a huge global market, it takes huge volumes to make a dent, and global demand is expected to continue to increase over time).
You are correct, global oil prices are controlled by a cartel. Any increase in US production will not affect global oil prices, unless Republicans want to forbid domestic oil exports. Few people know that the US exports 20% of all domestically produced oil. Increases in US production would be offset by reductions elsewhere (i.e. OPEC states) and increasing demand in places like China and India. https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/us.html
World production is controlled by the OPEC cartel...to some extent. But the price is set by the commodities futures market...which is influenced by production and many other factors.
