I want to know what games you've been playing on your PC or console that frustrated you so much you gave up, even though everyone else said they're great etc.

So far I keep giving up on Dead Space 1 because it's so boring sometimes, but I'll eventually try going back to finish it again :-/

Then this Hydrophobia Prophecy game, it's great but really starting to annoy the hell outta me with it's hidden cyphers and shit, I spent 30 mins looking for a cypher then realized it was in the room I left! Grrr

I downloaded the Half Life reboot eagerly recently, but have now given up because Freeman can't climb a frikking step properly. I can see where I have to go, I have a step ladder, but Freeman is such a clumsy dolt I am stuck looking up at a vent I want to be in, but that I just can't get to.

I don't think Ive given up on game due to difficulty since I was a kid, but I've sure given up on a few because they sucked. I just doled out $60 for Dishonered the other day and have already returned it, for example.

I gave up on World Of Warcraft because I started to become frustrated. Not with the game though. I was madly addicted to it. I was frustrated at how real life kept getting in the way of me decking out my cute little female night elf feral druid with all the best epics. I mean, the phone would ring, and it would be a mate, and I was like "piss off man, don't you realize I'm fucking tanking Lord Sanguinar in Tempest Keep right now?".

It was actually comical for a while, but then it wasn't anymore, so I returned to the desert of the real.

    Skyrim

Played it and thought I'd find the magic of oblivion in it, instead I just got incredibly frustrated by the level system and skill advancement design.

I just started playing Skyrim last night. Already getting bored with it and I'm only 2 hours in the game.

Everyone I know who is playing Sky Rim (just a couple of my friends really) raves to me about it. It's why I decided not to even look at it. So I guess it's good to know that I'm not missing out on much that I decided to miss out on anyway.

I really enjoyed Skyrim. I mean, okay, it's a giant open-world game full of glitches, and the combat system really needs an overhaul, but dual-wielding goes a long way to making up for that, and a lot of the story missions are really cool. Also, there's a ton of stuff to discover. It's really something you should at least try, if not sink the hundreds of hours into it required to really master it. Plus, it's a game that literally doesn't end: the side-quests are automatically generated ad infinitum, meaning that even after you complete the main threads, you'll always have new side-missions.

Considering how little your $60 bucks buys you nowadays, with day-one DLC scams (and DLC scams in general), it's really impressive how much content you get in Skyrim just for your initial purchase.

Agreed. I have over 300 hours into Skyrim now and am not done with it. It is my second run - through though, as my game files got corrupted when my motherboard crashed and died an ignoble death last month.

The mods add a lot to the game too, and there are a bunch of those to try.

It is an artificial world, and a harbinger of the future IMHO. It scales with you as you advance so it never gets real easy, though it does moderate somewhat if you want it to. Superb graphics and animation. Yeah, there are lots of small gltiches. Not surprising considering the vast scale of the artificial world that is Skyrim.

To address the OP: Diablo III

I have it, pre - ordered it, and have quit playing it because it is boring. I loved Diablo, Diablo II and the DII expansion pack. I really expected DIII to be along the same lines. While the graphics are superb, it is very formulaic and kinda dull. The main plot line is "eh", NPC character interactions bland and the gameplay rapidly becomes quite predictable. I would rather go back through Uru or Riven or something older but challenging and entertaining than fall asleep beating up more zombies in DIII. I give DIII 2 thumbs down.

The other thing I like about Skyrim is that their DLC is essentially a "Best Of" list of fan feedback. We asked for better vampire play, we created ways to build houses, we asked to return to Oblivion, and they're all in the DLC.

You can build your own houses? Can you also furnish them however you like? Furnishing houses (and doing things like locking down piles of gold) is one thing I've always missed about Ultima Online. Classic game.

I'm only going by what I read online, so I don't know to what extent you can furnish them, but I do know you can build extensions and stuff on them.

As in previous Elder Scrolls games, you don't build your own house per se, you can buy them from various factions in the game - to do so you almost certainly need to garner favour with the relevant person selling it - and "furnishing" is really just a case of buying a specific set of fixtures and fittings for each room. The basic houses are sparsely furnished... but if you buy all the furnishings for a specific house then they are vastly improved.
And the houses are of varying quality, in line with their location.

The game does get a touch repetitive once you're able to kill dragons within a few seconds of them landing, and can one-shot kill all but the most hardened foe... but up to that point it is a jewel of a game... even after 100 hours or so you can still be caught out by the sheer beauty of the landscape in the setting sun, especially if your machine can handle the graphics on full.

Anyhoo - games I have given up on...
    Doom3 - dull and repetitive.
Left 4 Dead 2 - it's an awesome game... but for some reason it no longer works for me through Steam, no matter how many times I reinstall

Fallout 3: New Vegas - just seemed same ol' game as Fallout 3 - and just never got into it after completing Fallout3.

Actually I'm totally with you on that one. I absolutely adored Fallout 3, but got bored of New Vegas about half-way through. I guess you could call it Fallout fatigue.

Was very disappointed with GTA 4 as well. Absolutely loved GTA 3, as well as Vice City and San Andreas. I mean GTA 4 was still a lot of fun for a while, but I really missed being able to buy properties, and eventually got bored.

I haven't actually done any hardcore gaming for about 6 months. My last stint was with Tribes Ascend.

If you can ignore the terrible graphics then Morrowind is far superior to Skyrim in my opinion.

Morrowwind was my favorite in the series, Daggerfall was the biggest tho.

While this is true in the original release, I was discussing DLC content. The one that allows you to own property/build hoses is called Hearthfire. Check it out

It was very much "same old, same old" with New Vegas, but my biggest problem with it was the loading times and constant freezing. I actually timed some loading screens, and many clocked in at well over 4 minutes. And they appear any time you open a door, so the game primarily consists of waiting. I ended up finishing the main quest anyway, mainly out of spite.
