I notice it happens most frequently to me when I post an unadulterated link to another thread within the forum. A clue- maybe...

    Brief notes

    Brief Notes:

Syne: #35 and 36 went into the queue; the rest appear to have posted normally.

Neverfly: Aye. Thank you. I had a suspicion, but couldn't pin it down. I'll see what I can do to make sure the issue is explored.

Do you mean that posts that do not link to sciforums do not go into the mod queue, but those that do, do?

Do you mean that if you edit a post to change a link from an external link to an internal sciforums one, the post then gets dumped into the mod queue?

I'm still not clear on what you're saying.

This sounds helpful, but I need to get a handle on exactly what the situation is.

Yes, posts #35 and # 36 went into the queue (seemingly because they were links to sciforums, although I have not verified that these are the only links queued). Post #37 was originally posted with the external link in post #38 and then edited to the sciforums link. Post #38 was to make sure that that outside link worked whether using the "Link" button or not.

Yes, on this test it would seem so, but I have not tested enough external links to be sure. It definitely seems that all sciforums links are being queued.

No, if an external link is accepted, without going to the queue, that post can then be edited to a sciforums link without sending it to the queue, since it has already posted publicly. The software has already accepted the public post.

No problem. I may do some more testing in this thread to see if I get any external links that cause a post to go to the queue.

There are some external links being queued as well. I intentionally found one with "spam" in the address to see if I could get it queued. It did. Someone might check for any similarities between that link and sciforums. Does the new software have a domain blacklist or something? I did find some discussion of blacklist and whitelist. http://www.vbseo.com/f2/external-domains-blacklist-47758/

This thread suggests that it is a spam mod problem. https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/390315-Threads-keep-going-to-moderation-queue

It sure seems like a "default white-list" of all existing members would be a great place to start for any anti-spam mods...

There has been a significant growth in the number of web crawling spam bots over recent times.
I have 11 domains under a special dns network security system [trialing it] that has been visited by 1462 spam bots, all visits with different IP addresses in the last 30 days.
Of a total of a mere 20700 page views my domains are very low bandwidth users, yet the number of threats lodged and recorded is staggering.
So it is not advisable to pretend that the net is not changing because it is and not for the best either. [a few years ago there was no significant problem however now there is]

I wouldn't be surprised if the posts-being-sent-to-the-mod-queue thing is associated with an anti-spam plugin we're using (Akismet). We're working on it.

i have posts that yet to see the light of day

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

this is the 2nd reply to your post #56
the 1st is 20 hrs in the moderation queue waiting for an approval

couple in the eclectic thread made prior to ban, about 8 or 9 days ago still has not surfaced
    nor have others.

the gustav account is non-functional at this time
i do not expect my posts to be approved in a manner that allows for a normal interaction with the flow of discourse given the logical constraints on mod participation and quite possibly, hostility towards my persona.

    close the gustav acct

    Gustav:

Your posts being bumped to the mod queue is an error that is due to the current forum software setup, not a vendetta against you.

I think this may have something to do with a spam filter we're running, but there's no way for me to verify that.

You could try contacting Plazma Inferno! You are not the only person this is happening too. Even some of my posts have been put in the queue.

I just got my first mod queue post. So I take it the problem still isn't solved.

Oh, you know what I just remembered? It had a link in it. A link to another post on Sci, but still.
