If a natural or man made disaster happened. What would you do?
How would you deal with possible thugs, theft, and roaming gangs? Think a real bad situation. Like earthquakes, hurricanes, solar flares, nuclear plant going off line, tornado may have hit and destroyed power plants or city's......
Government might come but it may be a while, you are on your own. Police are out of the question. Powers out, communication seems down....
    Shit has hit the fan..
What's a great ideal place to go, woods, staying put?
It could be days or weeks.
What "moves" could keep you safe?

It would depend on if it was a local disaster or worldwide disaster. They type of disaster also makes a big difference. A nuclear disaster would make me flee after the fallout, where a earthquake might make me grab a trailer and live in my backyard with solar panels.

If there was danger of looters, rioters I would probably bury the same trailer in my backyard and have the entrance disguised as a dog house or something. Another way to ditch dangerous people would be to steal a houseboat/cabin cruiser/sailboat (best fuel), and get out in the water after stocking some supplies, although again this option would suck if it was solar flares you were hiding from.

If I new a disaster was imminent I might convert my beds to water beds for inconspicuous water storage, fill a pool (or two).

I would organize with my neighbors and do what needs to be done. I think people would not tend to be lawless and violent as long as they were getting their basic needs met.

True some may not tend to be lawless and violent. But with out government for several days. Some would lean to being lawless and violent. Say during a category 5 hurricane that strikes while you are vacationing in florida. It goes right up the state everything is screwed up. Power is out. People went got supplies and you have none. Law is inadequate. In a couple days you will be without water food is low. Don't under assume some in your situation may take to the streets and steal, loot, and be violent, and as you put it "lawless". If the threats of law is low the threats of lawlessness is high imo...

Being prepared is everything. First of all, never, ever, live in Florida or vacation there.

you never totally know. But being ahead may help you more than being behind.

Florida is nice this time of year. So is Georgia.

Been to Louisiana once a while ago. Anyways it was right after Katrina hit. Hot place. The sites I had seen of havoc that remained saddened me. I don't think imo there are many "safe" locations that "nature" won't "find" you. I heard this the other day->
    And I have heard...
Maybe with a good dose of a mix of knowledge, adaptability, drive, and survival training and planning hopefully one can overcome some of the many situations.

Mobility, Health/Safety, Knowledge of surroundings, Camouflage, People skills, Food...and etc play a role in survival skills.

Water source with ability to purify
    Maps of travel
Knife and ability to make fire
Mobile home (tent with sleeping bag)

Overall I would stay high, avoid low places, travel to mountains and seek water sources with prior inspection

Talking with people can be a good and a bad thing, good in sharing and bad in thugs.

Because I'm a St. John member I am a part of the state diaster plan, would probably bring PB with me in that case so I know she is safe till we set up the evacuation centers and then leave her there while I helped with everyone else

going home to Nebraska. I think my brother's and I would all group at my Mom's. They are good with weapons, have military training, extensive medical training, and know how to live off the land. I sure as hell would get away from a big city
