    Hi everyone.

    My name is Stanley.

Sorry to anyone who had to read my atrocious posts in the iPod thread.

I knew i posted something stupid but couldn't remember what then i logged in and read it and could not believe my crude language.

Earlier that day my dad passed away and i took it hard, had a few too many beers (12) and was not myself when I posted. Luckily the forum allows for editing so I was able to clean up the posts, i would have contacted a moderator to delete the posts. At the time i thought they were somewhat humorous but then i thought about them today and couldn't remember exactly what i had posted. I was shocked at my language and didnt even know i made that last post.

My dad was 94 so not like it was not expected, i took it hard because we lived together for the last few years of his life and we became good friends during that time so i was sad and also angry and it came out at the wrong time and place.

So in closing, I apologise for anyone offended by my language.

    Welcome to the Sciforums.

It is important to deal with death long before we encounter it.

When our father died my brother were very angry and lashed out.

I am a Buddhist and just took care of business as my parents had asked me to while they were alive.

Stanley I wouldn't be angry and can't understand why you were either. When a death happens to a family member I always remember the good times I enjoyed with them often times reflecting about times we were together and what we did and where we went. Remembering those we love when they pass and keeping them alive in our hearts is a very good way to show them respect and admiration after they have gone. To get upset because they are gone shows them no respect and therefor shouldn't ever be considered. It might seem unfair to you that he died but you don't have the right to feel that way for he was there with you for as long as he could be.

The ipod thing was just a mistake, everyone makes mistakes...best not to re-visit these things. I am fine now...considering the circumstances. These are things we have to deal with in life.

Now, if i may be so bold, i ask, did anyone notice that a meme has been born in this very thread?

Tell me, have you ever seen "PWI" before? If the answer is no then attribute this to Stanley.

Search engines turn up nothing in the context upon which i have used it. By all means ENLIGHTEN me, 'cause as it stands now this is historic.

Edit: ok, perhaps "meme" is the wrong word...admittedly i wanted to use the word..."PWI", what do we call these things again, i forgot, not out of sheer ignorance though just bad memory. Starts with an A.

The word you are looking for is "acronym". However, you would be misusing it in this context because an acronym forms a pronounceable word like laser or NASA. PWI would be referred to as an "initialism".

Here, USA is an abbreviation, because we pronounce it yoo-ess-ay. But in Hungary it's an acronym. They pronounce it OO-sha.

    Interesting Fraggle.

    Perhaps Stanley pronounces PWI 'p(h)wī...

Acronym is the word i was looking for, I said it started with an A. An acronym is the abbreviation formed from the initial components in a phrase or a word.

So you do pronounce it 'p(h)wī then, right? Or is it 'p(h)wi?

    I see.

Fail. The term acronym only applies if you pronounce an abbreviation as a word. If you are saying each letter individually then it is an initialism, just as I told you in post #8.

Learn to read. Or is it a problem with comprehension? Which part of the link I provided did you not understand?

    Here it is again... http://www.usingenglish.com/glossary/acronym.html

Then stop evading the question. How would you pronounce it?

I would pronounce it as "Pwy" you made it out to be pronounced as "phone" and that would be an error, in my view. It is too soon to really say, but i do not see any H or actually where you get that P(h) from. I don't spell foot as "phoot" either.

As it stands now, this is an individual preference as it has not been made official.

    Did you see this post?

"I would not pronounce it like you did"
