"As one of America's most controversial televangelists, Pat Robertson has never attempted to keep his decidedly anti-gay opinions to himself.

On Monday, Robertson proved his disdain for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community on social media after joking that he wishes Facebook had a "Vomit" button for pictures of LGBT people kissing.

Robertson, who has previously compared gay people to murderers and claimed that cuckolded wives need to work harder to keep their men faithful, made the comments during the July 8 episode of his daily program, "The 700 Club."

A viewer of the show asked Robertson how to address pictures of same-sex couples on social media sites, like Facebook:

"When we "like" things on Facebook, if it's something that goes against what is written in the Bible -- such as pictures of same-sex couples -- is that considered condoning the behavior? How do you explain this to new Christian or youth?

"A couple of same-sex guys kissing, you like that?" Robertson said. "Well that makes me want to throw up... To me, I would punch ‘Vomit,’ not ‘Like.'... But they don’t give you that option on Facebook.”

Although Robertson's co-host laughed, the joke may not be far from the truth given Robertson's past statements on homosexuality. In fact, earlier in Monday's program, Robertson ruminated on a passage of the Old Testament and what he says it suggests about homosexuality.

"[Homosexuality is] an offense; it's an abomination for a man to lie with a man as with a woman. That's what is says," Robertson said. "And those who do that in the Old Testament were stoned to death."

He added that the Bible also says that the land would "vomit out" those who disobeyed the commands.

"For some reason now the Supreme Court has said homosexuality is now a constitutional right," Robertson continued. "This decision that was handed down recently by the majority glorifies this activity and talks about the civil rights and all this. Well, the Bible didn’t talk about civil rights; it talked about this was an offense against God and the land. It was an offense against the land, and the land would vomit you out."----http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/08/pat-robertson-vomit-button-gay_n_3562941.html

It probably brings up memories of his weak gag reflex control experienced during his experimental forays at Washington and Lee University.

Some people are forever going to be morons, they've invested too much into it to abandon ship now. Pat Robertson is one of those people.

Just because you CAN say something hateful doesn't mean you SHOULD. Are you saying hateful speech is justified because it's his right?

I don't mind his right to do it. I think what he said is pretty bigoted.

    True Enough

Additionally, Robertson's pretty unhinged lately. And that, I mean, compared to how crazy he's always been. A couple years ago he even advocated adultery. I've heard it said before that you were always more likely to see a copy of The Wall Street Journal under Robertson's arm than a Bible, but the guy even advocates domestic violence. Not exactly. Kind of. Sort of. It's hard to explain.

For example, today on the 700 Club's “Bring It On” segment where viewers ask Robertson questions, one man wondered how he should go about repairing his marriage with a wife who “insults” him and once tried to attack him.

“Well, you could become a Muslim and you could beat her,” Robertson responded. “This man's got to stand up to her and he can't let her get away with this stuff,” Robertson continued, “I don't think we condone wife-beating these days but something has got to be done.”

He later said the woman is a “rebellious child” and pondered if she has psychological problems. Robertson told the viewer that since he “can't divorce her according to the Scripture, so I say: move to Saudi Arabia.”

    (Tashman)

So the idea of Pat Robertson saying stupid things is hardly new. To the other, he did hobnob with Mitt Romney, and God told him that Romney would win. So ... yes, there is a concern about this whack-job's proximity to power. But he's eighty-three years old, of declining influence and increasing ridicule. He is, essentially, over.

I mean, really, I love this bit from the adultery (divorce) issue:

“I want to say I envy the Catholic priest, because when they have someone in confession its all kept secret,” Robertson said. “When I have somebody asking me for advice, it spreads world [wide] and it gets misunderstood.”

A viewer had asked for Robertson’s advice regarding a friend who had a wife suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. That friend began seeing another woman.

"My friend has gotten bitter at God for allowing his wife to be in that condition, and now he's started seeing another woman. He says that he should be allowed to see other people because his wife as he knows her is gone," the viewer, Andreas, wrote to CBN.

Robertson received backlash when he advised the husband to “divorce her and start all over again” if he was to take any action. He added that the husband should make sure that her custodial care was taken care of but to consult an ethicist for further consultation.

    (BREATHEcast)

And it just gets more incredible from there. He actually says, "Basically I'm saying, adultery is not a good thing". Except, of course, what he advised was, according to Jesus Christ Himself, adultery. So he even went on to say he was not giving advice for everyone, "and nor was I counseling anybody to be unscriptural and leave their spouse".

And then he wrapped up by pleading, "Please know that I never would tell anybody to leave their sick spouse. I never never would say such a thing because I need my spouse when I get sick and she needs me when she gets sick.”

    No, really.

Of course it's pretty bigoted. But it's also Pat Robertson; this is nothing less than what we've come to expect of him over the years. The fact that he has any influence left at all says more about his audience than anything else.

I guess that all is just my way of saying I don't bother getting offended anymore. It's quite the amusing spectacle, except of course for the problem of laughing at the disabled; after all, Robertson is clearly of diminished mental capacity. Age has most observably retarded whatever cognitive talents he might actually have had; after all, one does not run a confidence swindle on that scale without having some decent faculties.

As a Seattle band called Chemistry Set sang, years ago, "Baring your soul is the in thing to do. It's fun and it's easy for the empty-headed fool." Robertson's managed to make a career of it. But these days, he's just a doddering old fart with a dwindling personality cult. Being part of that audience counts for less and less these days. It's almost over; I'm enjoying the spectacle.

Look, you guys. I understand! I moved to Hollywood in 1967 and I felt quite uncomfortable around so much open display of affection among gay people. If you're heterosexual and that's all you've ever known, the idea of homosexuality can really be uncomfortable. To actually see it can be even more so.

But I got used to it. One of the advantages of an actual gay community, rather than a small town where it's not easy for gay people to meet each other, is that by hanging around with other gay people they begin to see and mimic subtle body language, facial expressions and other "tells." (I have no idea if this is natural or just something they evolved, but it doesn't matter.) What this means for the straight guy in that neighborhood is that they have 100% accuracy in distinguishing straight guys from gay guys. I was never once hit on by a gay guy, and they were perfectly nice to me. It turned out to be a fine place and they were great neighbors.

Contrast that with small towns. I've been hit on twice by gay guys in small towns.

Anyway, my point is that once you've become accustomed to being around them, it's like anything else. You get used to it and it doesn't bother you at all. Like being around ladies wearing Muslim garb, or people speaking Ukrainian.

Does anybody find it surprising that Pat Robertson hasn't had a lot of gay friends in his life? No wonder he's not used to being around them.

I'm pretty sure that he represents the organization he started and I'm pretty sure that his church has members. It would be safe to say that he represents them.

Granted, I still don't really care what that moron has to say, I just wish that he'd stop saying things all together.

He should watch this, aired on uk tv in late 1990's. I remember this was the first time that males kissed on english tv i think. I thought it turned out ok, and i am sure plenty out there have similar feelings. I stopped watching soaps in 2001 or so, but this i thought helped people. Shows that tv does have a part in changing views.

I cannot stand the bbc or eastenders, but i thought this scene was very well acted.

Why does it matter anyway the world is over populated.

The last thing people need when young is to be made to feel as outsiders, or people whom only feel this way. Thats why i am glad sometimes tv does things like this, conditions people, plus it tells people that pretend, that they are not alone, others feel the same way.

Heck, he probably wanted to vomit the first time he saw a black woman kiss a white man on national TV in 1968.

White men have been lusting after black women and secretly seducing them all the way back to the days of slavery. It's an example of the Westermarck Effect: the propensity of humans to be attracted to people who look very different from themselves, which helps keep the gene pool mixed and healthy.

It was not uncommon for plantation owners to sire children with their slaves. They quietly sent them off to Europe for education, where racism wasn't as strong.

In the 20th century it was still almost universally acceptable for white men to have dalliances with black women in the USA. So I doubt that even Robertson was outraged by it.

But white men were very intolerant of white women fooling around with black men. That was an easy way for a slave (or later a "free" but discriminated-against black citizen) to turn up dead. It's only been since the 1960s that white-female-black-male couples have become common in the USA. Nowadays, in a strange reversal of history, couples of that type are more common than white-male-black-female. I have seen TV interviews with black women who stated that they regard black men who marry "out of their own race" to be "traitors."

Strange reversal, what? Black men have big dick, more testosterone, thus the white women love them. I ask you to notice the types of white women who become a couple with the black men. The woman's social status, her wage, her lifestyle, drug history, number of children, ex-boyfriend history, convictions, etc.
