According to the above description, the precise nature (good and evil) of who you are is a formless void. Search your brain for that until you notice your 'I' has disappeared. It is the only way to effect peace and harmony.

I have reached Nirvana by finding the Divine 'I' or 'That' which lay behind the god/goddess experience as explained in my quote above.

It's so pointless. You are spreading it around like some ape who's proud of it's latest dump.

My 'I' has definitely not disappeared. But I feel quite peaceful and harmonious.

And say, if the 'I' does disappear, who will be the 'you' (ie, I) that you refer to as doing the noticing ?

I'm simply promoting that suffering is an illusion.

Step 3 is recursive. It isn't a simple 3-step procedure; it's an ongoing process - and there's no guarantee that Step 3 will ever be finished.

Duh. Enlightenment is a destination that you can aim for but you don't necessarily get there.

Which is just a sentence. Trying to do something with this only reinforces the self.

Is the goal of Buddhist practice to make the 'I' disappear entirely? Or is it to eliminate disfunctional attachments to what Buddhists believe the 'I' falsely names and represents. (Insert the 'anatta' and 'anicca' ideas there.)

The Buddha put on his robe in the morning and ate his food. Presumably he still had some concept of his body and where his mouth was located. In the discourses, he continues to use the pronoun 'I' and sometimes refers to his teachings and stuff.

There's an old Japanese Zen saying that goes like this:

Before a person studies Zen, mountains are mountains and waters are waters.

After a first glimpse into the truth of Zen, mountains are no longer mountains and waters are no longer waters.

And after enlightenment, mountains are once again mountains and waters once again waters.

In Buddhism, enlightenment isn't about making the world go away.

According to tradition, enlightenment is associated with compassion and with the weakening of the universal human obsession with protecting, feeding and aggrandizing our own sense of self.

Being a practicing Buddhist, I just love these 'sorta - Buddhist' threads!

    The 4 noble truths:

    1) Each of us has in our life both pleasure and pain.

    2) Much of the pain we experience is due to our choice of attachments.

    3) We can control our choice of attachments.

    4) Buddhist practice can help us do that.

Enlightenment is best experienced rather than studied.

Big fancy words, historical citations and complex rituals make Buddhism more complicated than it should be.

to rid onself of dichotomous thought
    creates a whole 'nuther dichotomy
    which must be attended to
    and so forth.....
---------------you can see where this is going?

    here's a little exercise
print ZEN in caps on a piece of paper, rotate 90 degrees anticlockwise
the N is now a Z add in EN, rotate 90 degrees anticlockwise, repeat, rotate again, repeat
You now have a ZEN wheel----------
ok, ok i know that as a wheel, the ride is gonna be a tad bouncy, but
depending on where you wanna go, it'll get you there

I have found a quick and effective way of obtaining enlightenment:

Keep asking yourself "who am i?" and provide an answer with "i am...the ultimate" or "i am that" which is in accordance with the descriptions of the essence of who you are in the op and the subsequent posts.

It is absolutely essential that you read the quotes on the first few posts on this thread or you will not have an answer for "who am i?"

There is nothing to obtain, and no way to obtain it.

Incorrect. The goal of this thread is to make Nirvana easily accessible and if you follow my instructions you to will be guaranteed to reach Nirvana and obtain a happy and joyful life free of the sufferer. Can you imagine a life with a constant smile on your face? That is what reading this thread and applying the above method will bring you.

Who follows instructions, if not the sufferer? Who wishes to be free of the wisher except the wisher doing the wishing? Why give directions to nowhere?

What they obtain is nothing and they do this through meditation

    But that is their mistake

Enlightenment is not obtaining nothing but rather understanding something

If though you take away my " I " then you take away my individualism , which doesn't bring forth happiness

How does one have tremendous confidence if the I is gone ? And is it really confidence or absence of awareness or blocking awareness ?

The human 'I' is the source of suffering. Without it, there is a perfectly happy and peaceful or harmless individual. No suffering whatsoever.

You have to fully understand (with the memory of the PCE) that it is the illusion and only the body is real.

You have a perfect description of the 'I' on page 1 of this thread so you know how to rid yourself of it and achieve enlightenment and perfection. You can think of your 'I' as the "most high" or most glorious thing. It is not something you have, it is what you are.
