Are we all PSYCHIC? Scientists believe that animals - including humans - have a collective consciousness

    By Victoria Woollaston

Some may call it coincidence, while others call it a sixth sense but why do people think about someone right before they call, for example, or ‘have a feeling’ something is about to happen before it does?

It may be due to something called collective consciousness - a term used by certain scientists to describe the practice of humans, and animals, sharing behaviours and ideas with each other telepathically.

Some call it coincidence, while others call it a sixth sense but why do people think about someone right before they call, for example? It may be due to something called collective consciousness - a term used by some scientists to describe the practice of humans, and animals, sharing behaviours and ideas telepathically.

WHAT IS THE THEORY OF A COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS?

The idea of a collective consciousness was first presented by French sociologist Émile Durkheim in 1893.

Durkheim’s definition related more to a shared understanding of certain morals and social norms based on people either imitating others, explicitly passing on these behaviours to one another, or agreeing certain ideals in order to feel accepted.

It is often referred to as a group having a ‘shared mind’ or ‘hive mind’.

Yet in the 1970s, scientists began to suggest that this collective consciousness could be developed and spread through species non-explicitly, through telepathic or ‘supernatural’ means.

Monkeys in Japan, for example, adopted and developed certain identical behaviours without ever coming into contact with one another.

Blue tits in Europe exhibited similar so-called telepathic behaviours, suggesting they were sharing ideas.

    .
A report in 2010 claimed to have proved the presence of this consciousness and, by default, psychic abilities in humans.

But these claims divided opinion and more recent reports dismiss them as nonsense.

Yet in the 1970s, scientists began to suggest this collective consciousness could be developed and spread through species non-explicitly; through telepathic or ‘supernatural’ means.

The Hundredth Monkey Phenomenon, for example, was an idea put forward by South African zoologist and ethologist Lyall Watson and his scientific author colleague Lawrence Blair in 1975.

Watson and Blair used the behaviours of Japanese macaque monkeys to back up their claims.

During the 1950s, macaques on the island of Koshima learned to wash sweet potatoes and explicitly passed this skill onto younger members of the group.

According to Watson and Blair, this behaviour then spread and was observed on neighbouring islands among groups of macaques who had never seemingly come into contact with each other.

They chalked this up to the monkeys sharing a collective consciousness, often referred to as a ‘shared mind’ or ‘hive mind’, in which the practices were shared telepathically.

A similar practice was more recently observed among blue tits. This time the skill the birds taught themselves was to break into milk bottles and drink the cream from the top.

Blue tits are said to have a collective consciousness. Birds in the UK taught themselves to break into milk bottles and drink the cream from the top, pictured. Similar groups of the same species exhibited the same skills in other countries throughout Europe and Asia. This was despite the groups never meeting

Although the practice was first observed in Southampton in 2011, similar groups of the same species exhibited the same skills in other countries throughout Europe and Asia. This was despite the groups never meeting and the birds being non-migratory.

A science journal in 2010 published claims made by Professor Daryl Bem, a physicist from Cornell University, that he had proved humans have similar psychic abilities supposedly seen in the birds and monkeys.

A similar phenomenon was observed among Japanese macaques learning to wash sweet potatoes, pictured, yet sceptics claim it's impossible to know the groups hadn't met

Professor Bem set out to investigate 'psi', or parapsychology, through a series of nine experiments.

In one test, students were shown a list of words to memorise. They were later asked to recall as many as they could and finally were given a random selection of the words to type out.

They were, unsurprisingly, more adept at remembering certain words over others, but these words tended to be the words they would later be asked to type, suggesting a future event had affected their ability to remember.

In another experiment, the students were shown an image of two curtains on a computer screen and told one concealed an erotic picture. The students chose the curtain hiding the picture ‘more often than could be explained away by chance’, according to Professor Bem.

Importantly, the position of the picture was randomly assigned by a computer that didn't make its decision until after the volunteer chose one curtain or the other.

To believers in the paranormal, this suggested the students were actually influencing future events and the odds against the combined result being down to mere chance or being a statistical fluke were quoted as 74 billion to one.

Professor Bem carried out nine different experiments involving more than 1,000 volunteers and all but one came down on the side of these so-called psychic theories.

Elsewhere, scientist Rubert Sheldrake has created experiments that test this collective consciousness and telepathy theory online and over the phone.

He believes it can’t be coincidence that hundreds, if not thousands of people, around the world experience similar feelings of being watched, for example.

Ray Kurzweil - director of engineering at Google - claims that by 2045 humans will be able to upload their entire minds to computers and become digitally immortal - an event called singularity

A science journal published claims made by Professor Daryl Bem, a physicist from Cornell University, that humans have similar psychic abilities. Eight out of nine tests were said to prove these claims yet when researchers from Edinburgh tried to replicate the results they couldn't; dismissing Professor Bem's report

Yet many are sceptical. In regards the Japanese monkeys, author Ron Amundson dismissed the supernatural claims, instead suggesting it was impossible to know for certain the monkeys in different groups had never met.

He added human intervention may have played a part in the skill developing because the monkeys had not seen, or learnt to wash the potatoes, before they were given them by the scientists.

It is also thought that monkeys don’t share a collective consciousness but instead all have thought processes and brains that solve problems in the same way.

This is a small distinction but suggests that when faced with the same issue, the monkeys would take the most appropriate route possible.

This was also used to explain the blue tit mystery; the birds wanted milk, they looked at the bottles and solved the problem they were facing.

Then in 2012, researchers from Edinburgh University including Professor Stuart Ritchie, wanted to put Professor Bem’s claims about the human psyche to the test and challenge his findings.

They repeated Professor Bem’s experiments, using the same computer program, but were unable to repeat his results.

‘We found nothing,’ said Ritchie. ‘It might just be because the statistics were a fluke. You're going to get some false positives sometimes.’

Yet Professor Ritchie was unable to explain exactly why his results were so widely different. Professor Bem claimed at the time that Ritchie’s scepticism may have skewed the results, but Ritchie later denied this."

When someone I encounter asks if there is in fact a collective consciousness, I always refer them to the only real mathematical evidence for this, by Ludvic Bass, who if memory serves was in fact a student of Schrodinger. He proved, at least mathematically and philosophically, that there was only one consciousness using entanglement theory.

Other than that, I am me, and you are someone else and the division of consciousness may be an illusion, as illustrated by Bass himself.

I've seen evidence of telepathy. Like when someone responded to my thoughts verbally.

    Hi there!

What evidence are you talking about, because the only retrocausal evidence of telepathy can be backed by a Dr. B. Libet, who specialized in timing electrons associated to the knowledge of the human being.

If by evidence, you mean, someone has managed to ''read your mind'' as it where, you may have been tricked. There are many ... many specialized magicians and stage artists who successfully ''read other peoples minds'' based on so-called ''limited information'' about their subjects. What is it in your case, you know for a fact telepathy is real... ?

Please, do not take this post as something negative, I truly am curious about your claim. Telepathy, is not outside of science as such but can be marginalized into a compatible argument, through complex arguments concerning matter, entanglement and even hidden variables.

Then there is the most common natural cause... be around someone long enough, you end up training yourself knowing their own reactions... this can be confused as some telepathic phenom.

Well in one instance I was having a open discussion telepathically in a room and a man responded verbally.

Is it just me? Does an "open discussion telepathically" - in that context - not seem to be an example of an "oxymoron"?

Any "open discussion telepathically" would seem to be "closed" to any non-telepathic individuals!

The "man" that "responded verbally" - if he was truly telepathic - should have been able to respond non-verbally or telepathically.

kx000, did you, perchance, ask the "man" the reason why he "responded verbally"?

Not enough. Someone hitting out with the same words in a sentence is barely an evidence, never mind a proof of telepathy. In fact, given every few thousand cases, you should probably find the situation very common.

Yes, I would have thought this was a bit of a contradiction.:

What did Dr. Libet's research say about retrocausal telepathy?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Libet

With readiness potential, doesn't that mean that a person is ready to do something, these electrical processes precede the volitional decisions?
Does anytime readiness potential exist it is always followed by the volitional decisions, so that the volitional decision itself is not really "free", but only an illusion, witht he readiness potential being the true decisive factor?
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Libet

I didn't notice anything talking about retrocausality of telepathy with Libet, but if such a thing existed, it could go along with the concept of "prophecy" or precognition where a person has a paranormal or supernatural ability to predict future events that have been sometimes claimed to exist in world religions for centuries.

We have two centers of consciousness, one center is connected to the conscious mind and one center is connected to the unconscious mind. The collective consciousness comes from the unconscious center. Its data input is processed unconsciously, with the results appearing to the conscious mind. Because the main frame parts of the brain does the data crunching, steps can appear to be missing, to the conscious mind. The result seem to come out of the air.

For example, I know someone who has Alzheimers. They often have a lot of problems communicating, because that person forgets the words. In spite of that, I can sort of translate what they are trying to say. This is a basic form of ESP. That person is not proving sufficient and accurate verbal data for most people to understand. But my unconscious center appears to be using other cues, to infer their meaning. It comes to me as a hunch and an awareness. This allows me to act as a prosthesis for their mind. What I found is deep down that inner person is still there, but there is fog, that only the unconscious center can see through.

I tend to believe that humans at one time communicated via what today would be called telepathy. This would occur via unconscious processing leading to understanding via the conscious mind, without words ever being needed. For example, two hunters in the field, who need to be quiet, will communicate with hand or whistle gestures, that allows them to communicate the upcoming dynamics of the chase. It is blend of triggers and internal processing leading to a coordinated effort.

Exactly what i've been saying all along and what many already suspected from life experience/observation. even the double split experiment indicates that reality isn't as logical/objective as we've been ingrained to believe. it's highly manipulative and able to be manipulated when it comes to consciousness and that consciousness can shape or even move reality to some extent. well, we also know this on a mundane or visual level on a daily basis.

notice the experiment of the images that where the unconscious has already perceived before the conscious. that gut reaction, feeling, intuition etc we all experience from time to time.

notice what they say, that there seems to be a secret underground that affects the reality that we live/manifestation and that the intangible (what we currently don't know) is what is the real bases or affects the tangible or physical world and the physical world is more the symptom. the opposite of what we've been led to think or believe.

but life experience shows you these clues and discrepancies where you have to question things you've been taught that do not coincide with reality. this is further than just the fact the physical 3d world hides the truth of the complex operations and the motivations underneath. it is that the real basis and progenitor of reality is not to be confused with a manifestation/projection of it. the manifestation is just one proof.

of course, this theory has a lot of holes in it and a lot to be discovered and answered as well. we do live in an objective reality on some level as we are tied into the same network yet we are also different. we can agree that the sun is yellow and an apple is red etc.

the holographic analogy is still not the same as what we consider a hologram. a hologram of mickey mouse has no consciousness. it doesn't matter if i put my hands through a hologram of mickey mouse vs someone with an actual consciousness who is interacting with me visually, mentally and even emotionally that is a projection becuase they are located in new york and i happen to be in LA because they are an actual person with consciousness (even if they do not know who they really are and have layers of social or programmed self-delusions and lies about themselves as well) whereas mickey mouse is a total artificial hologram.

so what we percieve as reality and how we function and reason is still different. we have a sense of ourselves, even independent of our own physical bodies which is, i think, pretty key to understanding and solving what we are or where we really originate from.

i disagree with the narrator on levels of control on this side of a 'field'. people are not frustrated and unhappy just because they are trying to be something they are not as in god/creator. they are unhappy also because of how others actions and choices affect their lives. his breakdown is too simplistic and misses some things. for one, people do have power of choice and they are co-creators of many things. unfortunately, there are many people who have ill or harmful intentions and actions. the real root of the 'problem of evil' is what is terrible. this is what is so sinister about this place. the technical aspects don't answer or address that. it's completely another issue entirely but even more important ironicly enough and the most elusive to control or address because all manner of suffering is such a big part of existence here. just that it's not a hypothetical idea of being subjected to terrible things that you did not choose, deserve or have control over, possibly just wrought by someone else's demented idea. it is actually a form of torture.

there is something disingenuous or a form of denial/cognitive dissonance of the juxtaposition of how very dark and shockingly low or seedy (best i can describe it) this universe can and often manifests. so the seeming clean logic of science and mechanics vs the weird or twisted manifestations of consciousness are like an unholy strange union. one is at the service of the other and it's not logic or science.

Induction logic is what is missing .

The logic of deduction , science foundation , the breaking the whole into more and more minute pieces forgets that these pieces are from the whole , or holistic .

The afterlife investigations , NDE ( near death experiences ) ; as an example

And what is interesting , in reading John Lash's book , Not in his Image , is that , electricity was considered evil .

Now that I find very interesting .
