I do, again not based just off of what was said, but when, why, and how it was said, as well as his past track record. He was intentionally inflammatory for the sake of being an ass, not because he was actually passionate about the topic. If he were truly passionate, he would not have felt a need for directed insults and other such fallacious behavior.

OK... Guess I'll add my 2 cents, after having read this post. I have never personally cared much for LG' s posts. He always struck me as self serving, and arrogant. But, I do see Cap's point here. He definitely, and intentionally, tried to get to Bells though. Sexual harrasment ? I don't really know about that. A troll? IMHO, yes. Do I agree he needs to pay the piper for his recent behavior? Yes, he crossed the line. He purposely pecked at Bells. He likes to get a reaction . But, in all honesty, to permaban him kinda sets an unsettling precedent. I think he needs a little holiday time, but,not a permanent one. At least not yet. Just my take...

It wasn't a sexual advance, it wasn't even sexual in nature. It was a metaphorical blowjob. Just like when you say you stabbed someone in the back, you're not accusing them of attempted murder. Bells had no reason to feel harassed, considering she was actively involved in the "discussion" and more willing than anyone else in the thread to be condescending, insulting, and rude. LG had no power over her, so there was no threat, and never implied that he had any intent of threatening her.

Sexual harassment isn't "how a comment is perceived." There are objective standards, and LG's comment met none of them.

Now, if you want to say you guys were fed up with his whole act and it was time for him to go, then what you should have done was reinstated him and waited for him to fuck up for real. A real transgression, weighted with his history of trollish behavior, resulting in a permaban probably would have been accepted by most of the people now complaining about it. All you've done instead is reinforce every bad feeling we've had about your clown school, and vindicate your two largest troublemakers--Tiassa and Bells, both of whom are far more vitriolic, insulting, and disruptive than LG ever was.

Also, keep in mind that while you all are moderators, this site is about the community. We, as a community, did not appreciate or agree with the ban. That should have been taken into consideration. Arguably, that should have been your first consideration. You're not kings. You're supposed to make this site better, not treat it like a virtual fiefdom.

Definitely. I was banned for a few days by James R because I was joking with Captain Kremmen over the issue. James R called it "posting Violent, Abusive or Pornographic Content" and referred to it as sexual harassment.

Given that the process of sorting out everything going on in the personhood thread never even got to the blowjob question before it was interrupted, I admit that I find this continued focus on the point somewhat amusing for its demonstration of people's absolute determination toward futile arguments and actions.

You should take comfort, though; you are not alone. There was, indeed, an argument among the moderators that involved the functional assertion that LG's ban was inappropriate because another thing he might have said didn't rise to the standard of sexual harassment. (And if you ever have a specific need to feel nauseous, sit back and watch a man explain to a woman why she's just being silly for feeling sexually harassed. I must admit, watching the Administration tell a woman what women are supposed to think is a shocking transition; in the abstract, it's funny, but it's rather quite sickening when it actually happens.)

The Administration, in the course of this inquisition inquiry, has invoked a circumstance where any sympathetic consideration toward your point would be held against a moderator. To wit, there were recently complaints about Enmos' action against Trooper and Trapped. Was a time when, perhaps, another moderator might analyze the accusation and defense, and then challenge the action, but the Administration has chosen to hold that discretion against the moderation staff as demonstrative of error.

Your defense doesn't matter. The Administration created a situation in which the comments in question must be acted against. Any sympathetic assessment of collegially-intended humor is now a specific detriment to a moderator's standing.

This is what the Administration wants. To the other, at least the Administration is following through.

The masses are on your side. a big quantity of low and medium quality posts from your POV are given, you can afford to chip in with high quality posts when the chance comes.
in other words, the obvious stuff you think should be said is said by other people because there's a big supply of them, hence you can focus better on your few posts and their consistency.
when you're from the other side, low and medium quality posts are banned quickly, and so their counterparts from the other side sweep the place, with only the few high quality posters to reply to the low, medium and high quality posters of the mainstream. such debates are unfair and unbalanced, if you wanna hold your ground in such fight you can't be too sincere and consistent.

see above, when overrun with BS you can't afford to keep choosing your words carefully and researching every post you make.
you're bound to make mistakes and maybe not live up to the high level of your best opponents, but you do a decent cleanup job.

Everything else put aside, "knowledgeable in his field" in religion is super damn rare in sciforums. See if that other buddhist who influenced you in your life is willing to come here and contribute 16,330 posts to diversify and share his influence on this board. Tell him I'm willing to stroke his ego if he does.

But also tell him he might get banned some years later for thinking he has the right to disagree in a fashion similar to everyone else.

In this thread if I were in your place (i.e A bothersome member has been banned just like that for being a pain), I would be more inclined to just let it go.

but in general, and now more so that LG is banned, I read posts, disagree with them in my head, and move along.
unless I really expect to learn or get anywhere by voicing my disagreement, then I just don't bother, from my perspective sciforums is chock full of wrong people...

So basically, LG owned a/the mod(s), I've never read the incident in which the whole episode happened and never planned to, just seeing "sexual harassment" as an accusation to LG told me enough.
so moral of the story, don't win with the mods.
This also kinda explains why it said Tiassa was the one who did it, which was hard to believe for me, I was convinced it must've been one of James's impulses. But then again I've never seen Tiessa lose so if this was the first, then maybe..

But damn, what a way to go, I was sad about how after all these years of skillfully and carefully skirting the edge he gets hacked like this, but after reading Yazata's summary, then my, was he a badass, he finally took off the handicap and uncoiled and stung where it hurt, lol and boy how much it must've hurt, I'm sure he went out happy, I've always said if you're gonna go, go with a bang, and he sure did.
