You can do both. Considering you have no qualms banning offenders that are regular members, bans should be extended to offending moderators, as well as the implementation of a new system that will keep moderators in check, and make the rules easier for everyone to follow. Your primary objective here, as always, seems to be finding excuses not to hold moderators accountable. This needs to change. You sound like a mouthpiece for the cabal rather than a sensible go-between.
How about when the moderators are the ones offending in that regard? Oh, right. They never do that. Er, I mean, if they do, it's justified. They're only human, after all. Is that how it goes?
Nah. The apparent superiorism of the mods is the only thing that actually grants them any authority in the eyes of the ordinary posters. It's because the mods can get away with murder (a virtual one at least) that they deserve and earn that some measure of power and authority be acknowledged to them. Otherwise, they'd simply be irrelevant pussies.
I would never be a moderator....It is obviously a thankless task, but one which is needed. As Churchill once said [was it Churchill??] you can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can never please all of the people, all of the time. And really, some people do go out of their way to be as obnoxious as they can possibly be and obviously have some sort of mental problem...Dealing with them, will always be a thankless task. Maybe one day in the future, as we venture to the stars as a united species, we all will then have mellowed somewhat and moderators may not be needed...but until then, like any law enforcement agency, they are a necessary evil.
Right, well, considering I have no capacity to ban moderators (as that falls to, I believe, James and Tiassa alone?), as I said, we need to fix the issue.
Not sure I follow here... are you saying that if moderators didn't occasionally lose their shit and start handing out infractions left and right that you would respect them less / not at all? Or is my monday-befuddled brain completely zapped? (monday befuddled because EVERYTHING at work seems to be broken, including the tools I need to fix the things that are broken 0o')
I didn't mean you, specifically, should ban mods. Yea, the problem needs a solution. Unfortunately, I doubt one will arise. We, as a community are being kept in the dark during this supposed process, not being asked what we think will make the site better, and you intimated earlier that stricter moderation will be the ultimate fallout to this, so what do you expect us to think? Do you expect us to trust that things will change for the better?
I meant to insinuate (not intimidate) that stricter moderation COULD be an effect of all this... and it is one I am trying desperately to avoid having happen. There are... several ideas being kicked around, and I think ultimately it is going to take a new style of thinking to resolve this issue once and for all.
It won't change until you guys realize that you're the problem. Whether it's flaming and baiting like Bells and Tiassa (and you, at times), or allowing problem posters like LG and wynn to hang around for years while they erode the atmosphere of the forum, or moderating so inconsistently that the rules don't actually mean anything, the problems here begin and end with you guys. Fix yourselves before you worry about keeping us in check.
So.. You protest when they are banned.. And then you protest that they weren't banned sooner...
And if you want an example, here's something that I would have been a witness to: And that also brings up a complaint I have. Don't delete threads!
You could get lost in an elevator, I swear. Nah, nobody's that obtuse. You're just trolling. Again. Do I even need to defend myself on this one? Lol. LG desrved to get banned for being a troll, not because he happened to piss you off.
Yeah, shut the place down! As always, it's tough to be enlightened ... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Wynn, I do have to say your attitude can be a tad bit infuriating at times; if you feel yourself capable of doing so much more, then why not, simply and rationally, without causing a frackas, point out what could/should be changed and how you would change it, instead of making somewhat vague hints as to what you dislike?
I clearly said several times that I don't think anything much can be done, and I supported my stance by reference to one of the major theories of the development of moral reasoning. I would like though to see some grounds for believing that a change (for the better?) is even just theoretically possible.
