I suspect that this thred will have a positive influence on Sciforums moderation an posters in general... but in any case... i dont see a downside to mods always usin good maners in ther moderation duties... an treatin posters as if they are responsible adults.!!!

I am not personally aware of any "smart-azz" remarks when handing out suspensions. If anything, I err on the side of saying less, as I do not really what to "rub it in", regardless of how some seem to think I am "wringing my hands in delight".

The real question is whether responsible adults would post at such forums to begin with ....

    *tsk tsk*

That's why being soulless and a non-believer pays off.

    Hah!
Make me a mod, Bells, and I'll show you what a soulless non-believer really is.

I'd be a goddamned bloody tyrant until the day you got rid of me. You'd lose half your membership within a month.

Meh. I talk a good game, But I don't care enough to actually do it.

A little like the thought of becoming a politician, really. I know I'd do a better job than most of them, but frankly, m'dear, I don't give a damn.

    And I'm the shadow runner.

You'd make a fantastic politician, but you'd be more of the coup de grâce type. Come in, put the entire system to rest with a few merciful blows and leave everyone else to rebuilt it back better. It would be glorious to watch, but I like chaos.

A lot of Posers delude themselves into believing that they can "Talk the Talk" - but the true "Walkers" suffer no such delusions and rarely "Talk" of their "Walks".

As far as Politicians...Meh! I figured out a long time ago that any person that "tosses their hat into the ring", should probably be immediately moved to the bottom of the list of possible occupiers of the position that they aspire to.

Somewhat of an oxymoron - to "have it all", would include having a Soul, conversely, by not having a Soul, one would not "have it all".

As far as being a Moderator of this Forum - I would opine that it would probably be about as enjoyable as being the Resident Proctologist at a large mens Prison!

Fear me beetchez!. Yes, I have had some wine.

See, the demand is not just for tyrants. But for polite tyrants. I've often wondered whose standards of politeness are we meant to refer to? The person being banned won't think it's polite or respectful. To the moderated, we'll always be the arsehole who is disrespectful, no matter what we say. Are these the people we should pander to, though? The people we are actively banning or moderating? Will it make them feel better about their ban? 'Oh look! They didn't tell me to stop being a twat when I was banned for a month for acting like a twat.. How refreshingly polite!'..? I don't see this happening in any scenario. No matter how polite we are, the response to the individual(s) being moderated will not be a positive one.

Sciforums problem, in a nutshell. Have I not said it, a thousand times?

When you institute a set of values, you yourselves have to live by them.

You say it like it's an isolated illness special to sciforums.

This is the problem with most of America, and it should be noted that the people making complaints about this behaviour are mostly American is that social philosophy has somehow converted the idea of compassion into coddling entitlement.

Case in point; the rude little 18 year old teenager who cut school, ran away, and then tried to sue her parents for support and college tuition after leaving nasty voicemails and slandering her parents to everyone she could and then expects to be treated with dignity AND be supported and coddled. It's not a sciforums problem at all, it's a sociological experiment that has gone horribly wrong and damaged two or three entire generations of people.

You're quite right, it isn't a problem exclusive to sciforums.
But I would have thought that goes without saying. This is forum supposedly devoted to those who desire a voice.
As such, one must structure the environment in such a way as to be conducive to giving voice to those who might otherwise have none.

There are a million forums out there.
How does this one continue to be relevant among a thousand others, and yet by extension remain economically viable in a saturated market?
