I also suggested rpenner be a mod (as long as he would be more active than he was elsewhere) but I got no feedback from that.

How loud do you want me to scream over the internet?

    :EDIT:

I mean, I'd like to be able to ask questions, but I feel I can't on this forum.

The other forum I was a part of with James, also had a "chat" section, for anyone that wanted to just, well, chat!
You know, how's your Mother?..What did you have for breakfast this morning...Will NSW make it three in a row on Wednesday evening?

In actual fact, it ended up being the most popular section by a mile!

    Thanks for the offer.

I was unclear though. I meant if asking more specific scientificquestion about string theory or particle physics. I believe two of MIA moderators were trained in those areas.

Clueless, you weren't a member here in the early years when we actually had less subforums. Back then there was a constant barrage of people posting things that ended up in the Cesspool, this is back when the Cesspool had posting rights. The problem was however that some people that posted to the forum literally only posted nonsensical stuff to the Cesspool, they didn't engage in the rest of the site and some of the threads themselves were completely outrageous because there wasn't any active moderation within that subforum.

(I'm talking about not just absurd threads but illicit ones, ones meant for creating problems with members, moderators and site owners alike.)

It was considered at the time that allowing such threads/posts to exist in their own area wasn't achieving the goal that it was suppose to. (The Cesspool is suppose to be a sample of threads that shouldn't be recreated or discussed because such threads will likely get moderated or removed, which is why it's read-only)

Eventually there was some small amount of capitulation in regards to posters complaining that the minimalistic subforums didn't cater to their brand of popular/pseudo sciences, so more subforums were added, which in turn increased the number of necessary moderators. As you can tell Sciforums has always used more Human measures to conduct it's operations than those that rely upon particular canned responses and autonoma, this has had both it's benefits and caused it's fair share of problems.

The increase in subforums and the capitulation to more "Popular" discussion subforums has been pretty much where sciforums went from it's former glory into a spiralling mess, adding more subforums/poster rights etc won't make the site any greater or increase traffic in the right ways, after all if it was just about traffic the site owners would be stating "let the bots run amok" and that's not the case.

I therefore suggest reinstating the Cesspool to posting wouldn't serve any useful purpose, it would just increase the problems we are already dealing with.

I didn't know a lot of that originally...

And although I can get really agitated and fed with posts, I can also be genuinely curious by unusual content and or writing styles.

Why are you trying to increase traffic? Doesn't it just go up? I did put a suggestion in the feedback area though that this site makes it overly difficult for people to join. I almost didn't, and I'm sure alot of people have turned away because of it.

I didn't actually say that. But you'd have to be registered to see it, hence, I didn't link it.

Ok... do you thank if mods abided by the same rules the regular posters are expected to abide by... it woud be benificial to Sciforums.???

Do you thank if moderation was preformed wit-out snide remarks... it woud be benificial to Sciforums.???

If moderation could be accepted gracefully and without the temper-tantrums, thinly veiled threats, etc, then perhaps...

    What about this queston:::

"do you thank if mods abided by the same rules the regular posters are expected to abide by... it woud be benificial to Sciforums.???"

I would agree to that - I don't know if it would make sciforums a better place per-say, based on the original intent, but meh

I thank it woud be a win win all the way around.!!!

I thank posters woud behave beter if it wasnt... "do as i say... not as i do"... an the mods woud be more respected... even when preformin ther mod duties... especialy if they preform those duties adult-like/respectfully.!!!

Frankly... im always amazed when someone argues against these 2 suggestions ive made

I can't answer rhetorical questions, especially those that should have self-evident answers.

What I can say is I've slowly been drafting some ideas for forum software which might or might not eventually end up created into a forum in the future. Some of those designs try to deal with the very problems we've been having here, for instance the draft currently emphasises a reduction on "Bans", people only get banned for "Major" things (Spamming, site defacement, severe levels of abuse etc), there is more leniency towards casual posters while also granting discussion areas for those that want to be more Professional, with a standard set of catch most (not quite all) forums in the middle to allow the discussion between both types of people.

I'm still in the process of drafting it, I did also want to look towards doing something else that would revolutionise the forum system, unfortunately someone pipped me to it on the Kickstarter site so I'm waiting to see how far they get as I'm sure the idea is good, it will just be interesting to see if the guy is anywhere near where I was going to go with it. (Although the guy's asking way too little for the start-up considering what it would take to make happen)

Interesting concept... and conceivably lucrative, if other forums took it up. I think I hate you.

    Makin Sciforums more Successful.!!!

One way to do this would be not to keep banning people.
What on earth can Magical Realist have done to warrant a 30 day ban?
    These mods are running amok.
