    Hi.

As you may have noticed, with a XenForo update we got an option to like certain posts using Like button below each post.

Also, as you may have noticed, that button disappeared. Reason: I've disabled it, simply because we didn't have this option with vBulletin.

However, I understand that you may like having that option back, so I decided to set up a poll (it will be active for a week) with a simple question: Do you want the Like option/button back?

    Thank you.

This isn't FaceFrikkin'Book, is it? What do I care if how many people 'like' my oh-so--clever fart joke? We talk about 'stuff' here. If you agree, agree. If you disagree, thank you very much for your input, disagree, but a like button? That's for teeny bopper girls! I have no quarrel with teeny bopper girls and how they live, but I ain't one of 'em, and judging by your avatar, neither is you.

i believe a "like" button should be implemented much like the report button.
you must explain WHY you like the post, the explanation will be viewable only to the mod team
abuse of the like button should get infraction points.

without some kind of oversight, this feature WILL be abused.

Neither are most inhabitants here but still many would like to pay homage to those who post something that is something which appeals to them and want to express that easily. I recall on another forum you would have to make another post to say that you enjoyed what another poster said which took more time.

I guess there's no harm in giving it a try. If the feature is abused, we can turn it off.

Abuse of the like button should be punishable by death.

If you like someone it does state who liked the comment. (I don't know if that's public information or not and I don't know how many likes it can handle before it chops names off. ) It states it on their post and messages them to tell them the post is liked. There doesn't appear to be a moderator pagination however to check which posts were liked on a members profile, although a members number of likes is visible through the Most Likes link which can be an easy way for moderators/members alike to gauge if it's being abused.

(However it would be better if it was actually a reputation system that members can both positively and negatively mark posts based upon the content as this would potentially balance, although again it could be abused but so too can the report button etc)

The plus and minus system for posts is better than the like system.
People can choose to mark a post plus, minus, or leave it alone.
    The votes are anonymous.
A net minus score generally means that the point of view is unpopular, or stupid.
A high plus score usually means that it is popular and well written.

Would it be possible to have a plus and minus system?
I have voted yes to likes, but would prefer this.

Anonymous votes only work if reputations of voters is irrelevant.

If you don't like the like button..then ignore the like button.. its better to have it and not use it, than to want to use it and not have it...

(of course I am also open to cooler scripts)
(like give out peanuts instead of likes)

Do you mean an 'ignore' button, or a 'dislike' button? The latter would be prone to abuse.

If I remember, the 'like' button allows you to remove your like..

So what are you saying? The 'kill' button ought to have an 'undead' option?

I am in favor of having a like button on forums as it gives me a means to express appreciation of the content of a post even when I may be too pressed for time to post a response. It also provides positive energy when I observe that one or more people have expressed an appreciation for the time and effort of a response that I have made. Positive energy may well lead to more participation which I feel could be useful as many on-line forums seem to share a common challenge of declining membership.

The most active forums that I am on have either a 'like' button or a 'reputation' system and they do not seem to be suffering for the presence of this feature.

    It averages out.
Sometimes it can be interesting to read a post with a lot of minuses, to figure out what made it so objectionable.

    That's wise.
You might enjoy a meal, and like it.
But if the next day you got food poisoning, you would change your mind.
