    Hi,

My areas of interest are Nietzschean philosophy, pagan aesthetics and general plutonic metastructures, by which I mean intellectual occultisms.

I joined today, and would like to survey the best on here.

Would someone care to recommend the best female / male thinkers in your opinion on this forum?

    Thanks.

    Not
It's not for me to say who the best thinkers are. Ask me about stinkers, and maybe I'll PM you.

    Are the smart ones

a.k.a everybody has their good points, no judgement can be made --- a.k.a. the relativist's escapism.

Guess we cant trust our own senses any more now, unless some majority backs it up zzzz

I don't care about any old majority. I just know 'the thinkers' will find their own way to you. There's no need for me to say anything since it could be days and days before they check in and may or may not be interested in your posts. Who am I to say?

Thanks, and oh, 'goatman' and I are members on the same forum, and it was he who introduced me to this site. The format here apparently gives more weight to presentation than content; my threads got locked. The motive was to encourage thoughtful responses after a comprehensive absorption on a matter, but enforcing restrictions on style than substance at the level of one-liners or something? is naturally disappointing. How did posting essays come to be under trolldom?
The easy answer is always "you are free to leave" or banning, but does it ever move forward to really questioning the state of dullness in thinking we are surrounded by? Superficiality trumps substantiality.
Too late to say, but still,,, Don't hate the messenger for saying civility has become a cowardly way of mutually supporting each other's contentments to leave it at a 'agree-to-disagree', and exchange of information is why philosophy is stagnating.

    pick up later.

Ever since the copy-paste function was implemented I imagine (1984 or thereabouts? Probably earlier at Xerox.)
There's always a balance between allowing every bit of dross on a forum (example: Usenet) and over-moderating to the point of having a sterile site. It's never an easy balance to strike; I don't envy the moderators here.
Agreed - but philosophy is never so stagnant as when it is buried under layer upon layer of personal attacks, Viagra ads, conspiracy theory screeds and FreeRepublic copy-and-pastes. Civility is a welcome alternative to that - although of course by itself does not guarantee free discourse.

The format here is conversational. People raise an issue, thesis or topic, then others join in, expressing their own ideas about it. This isn't really an appropriate place for self-publication of longer essays.

You seem to be assuming your own superiority, which remains to be seen.

If the idea of people engaging in civil conversation, exchanging information and on occasion agreeing to disagree offends your sensibilities, then what you you propose instead?

My own view is that those qualities are fundamental to what good philosophical conversation is.

My style is aphoristic. I was just trying to get a thread started and so made some posts to keep the continuity.

How funny; esp. after my OP on this thread asks in all proper etiquette on who is worth reading?
    But whatever.

And I am delineating the difference between a philosophical-Conversation where the qualities you mention are naturally what I would agree too, and doing Philosophy, which is about discrimination and compulsory assessment of value-standards, ranks, hierarchies on degrees of objectivity with uncensored honesty and irrespective of the comfort-levels it may affect of another.

Philosophy ought to be about Intellectual integrity beyond what utilitarian hedonisms and whatever theories or views we may need to comfort us.

The accusation of "trolling" is the internet version of political-correctness.
It simply and easily implies the other's intent; his/her "bad faith" in participation, and dismisses him/her as not worth responding to, especially when you don't have a response to theirs.

The label attempts to promote an internet social etiquette based on the desired outcome of mass participation (more is better - the victory of quantity over quality), respect for all and their ideas and ideals (relativism pushed to its absurd nihilistic conclusion) - no matter how unintelligent and ignorant they might be - and a repression of any opinion which might even hint at an insult or a hurtful conclusion against anyone...except the instigator of "trolling" that is.

Here the Christian, humanitarian ethos steps in to offer a solution: do not hate anyone, 'forgive them their ignorance'.

Now this is not to say that the phenomenon of trolling is not a real one but it is to say that it has now been hijacked and is being used as a condemnation of unwanted positions, in the same way that other political incorrect-isms like race or sex are a real phenomena but are now taken up by those who wish to dismiss any legitimate positions that threaten their egalitarian, liberal, secular humanistic or marxist moralities without having to deal with them.

The majority just regurgitate information and opinions, adopting the ones they were brought up to not question or question only within safe pre-set borders, the feel-good comforting idealisms conveniently soothing and flattering and hopeful, that most prefer to numb themselves with.

The modernistic moral code of "live and let live" need not be uttered.
Nobody likes anyone who makes them rethink what they hold as being sacred particularly when they've invented a lifetime on its certainty.

Anyways, just had to say it.

I have a high opinion of Sarkus. But he doesn't post that much and I'm not sure if he's that interested in the subjects you mentioned.

I'm not entirely certain the requisite three wise men could be found, here. Nor that they would appreciate the nature of that which they seek, were they to be found.

With respect to your recommendation, Trooper, I have become old, slow and fat.
It's the company I keep, you see. Let us not delve too much into the implications of that... it is I who chooses, after all, where and how much I bleed.

There are times I wonder if I should not do a few laps in the pool; perhaps go to my wardrobe to see if I still own a suit and tie, and to see if it still fit.
Age brings with it the illusion that if one were to simply tidy up a little, he could become again the man he was in his youth. Unfortunately, he more often becomes merely a stone effigy erected in memorial to it.
