Hi, I am trying to write a paper on the word "whore", and I was wondering what connotations you all may have about the word.

To mean it means a woman who sleeps around to get money or a woman who just sleeps around with no real relationship established. Also kind of like a call girl I guess.

Thanks for your help in advance

"Terrible." That's about it. The same thing when someone says the words shit. The reason is because life is a crap shoot. And it really is.

Someone who will do things for money. I have nothing against people who sell their sexual services. The worst whores in the world are politicians.

Somebody very angry and trying to offend somebody else, the first thing I'm thinking is visualising that angry person 'spitting' out the word as an insult.

If it is used to describe a prostitute or prostitution, I think it degrades the person who uses the word. If the word is used in that context, it gives me the impression the person using it is uncouth, arrogant and ignorant.

so to OP, I know you are looking for innovative answers out of the general consensus of society, but truthfully someone who is called a "whore" is a prostitute and who values fame, money, pleasure above caring, family values, and true love.

In the USA, we seldom use "whore" as a synonym for "prostitute" anymore, although if we hear it we have no problem understanding it.

It's more commonly used to describe someone who will grovel or otherwise demean himself (and yes, it's more likely to be applied to a man than a woman) in order to gain favor.

The most common American slang term for a prostitute is a hooker. This goes back to an older time, and originally meant a person who hooks fish for a living.

"Prostitute" is a Latin word that we borrowed from the French after the Norman invasion in 1066, when French became the official language of government, scholarship and business in England for about 300 years.

"Whore" is derived from an ancient word in Proto-Germanic. It has cognates in most of the modern Germanic languages, such as Dutch, German and Norwegian.
