He can't. He’s just a kid with unearned confidence. Don’t waste your time on him.

Every post? No, but enough to get a decent cross-section of how you post.

Not to mention all the reported posts of yours

Well, I'm flattered that you're so fixated by the content I post. Note that certain moderators have labeled posters creepy or even 'stalker-ish' for quoting a post of theirs from several months prior, or looking at how long a poster has been a member, but I'm not nearly so paranoid. Even if you have tried to determine my location via my IP. That's just the price of being a compelling poster, I guess.

Heh, don't flatter yourself - ever since the transfer to the new forum software, every moderator, supermod, and administrator gets notified of every post that gets reported... plus, when certain users tend to get reported more often the others (or require more moderator attention from the team as a whole), it tends to attract attention as we try and figure out just why we keep seeing a particular user on our collective radar.

So your 'cross-section' of my posts is only posts that have been reported? I thought a moderator on a science forum would know about selection bias, but I guess I was wrong.

By the way, have you figured out where I am posting from yet? I thought a clever IT manager like yourself (or whatever you claim to be) would have figured it out by now. It must really be vexxing for you not to have the power to strip away someone's anonymity, hey?

Actually, when a post is reported, we tend to walk through the entire thread leading up to, and following, the reported post... it's how we get an idea for what is actually going on. After all, assessing a single post out-of-context is simply foolish, wouldn't you agree?

Ho hum, another foolish claim by someone who knows not what they speak of... surely even you realize how simple it is to obfuscate ones IP address via the use of a simple proxy server. If you are asking if I have looked up and traced the IP address you are posting from at present, the answer is no - unless I am mistaken, with this current forum software, only the administration can directly look up a members IP address. Mods can run a search to see if you share the current IP with other users, though it only displays the IP address in question if it does match.

Now, granted... there are other methods I could use to track someone down if I were so inclined (after all, to learn about network security and penetration testing, one has to learn how the "bad guys" operate in order to know how to defeat their methods), but these methods would vary from slightly stalker-eque to immoral to potentially illegal depending on the jurisdiction(s) involved. Simply put - you aren't worth the trouble

Now, on the old software, I could simply look up your hosting IP and trace that back to an ISP and from there figure an approximate location (ranging from a city/county to an exact latitude/longitude to a physical address, depending on how much data that ISP makes publicly available)

How so? He responded through a power ranger meme. His knowledge is limited. Looks like one of his older colleagues could ask him to limit his use of meme generators or am I the only one who finds it extremely annoying?

Indeed I did... would you have preferred perhaps VR Troopers, or maybe Magic School Bus?

You will never hear me deny this - anyone who thinks their knowledge is not limited is an absolute fool of the highest caliber. No one person can know everything, nor even a significant part of everything. My strength is in my ability to adapt what I know, research what I don't, and learn from the experience.

You find my post above annoying?

"Power ranger meme?" Is this some new kind of psychobabble?

He could have done what I did, which is to look through a selection of posts made by the person in question and form an opinion accordingly.

But you are a sock puppet. The whining gives it away, for one thing. You haven't changed. And you do a lousy female impression - something I've noted previously.

It's ok. We'll tolerate you unless you become a problem.

I'm impressed. After I refused your request to prove my gender by providing a photo, you took to studying how to identify someone's gender via their literary style alone. Now that's dedication.

At present? No. However, you have seen fit to trace my IP in the past, and actually went out of your way to tell me you had done so. I'll refer you to the relevant post, since I'm sure you can't remember every claim you have made, given that you post so much inanity, one sentence snipes, and picture memes.

So, um, yeah. The accusations of 'harassment' and 'stalking' that moderators make against certain posters wears pretty thin, when they themselves actively attempt to identify a poster's location, gender, or real-life identity.

EDIT - I do apologize, I am capable of looking up users IP addresses directly. I forgot that the new forum software changed WHERE that was done.

EDIT 2 - edited to remove the IP information at the request of my cohorts.

Why would I need to analyse your literary style? I already know your gender.

    So..."sock puppet"'s...are allowed on SciForums?

So...do any "Mods/Admins" of SciForums run any of these "sock puppet"'s?

    Just wondering?
