Over the last couple of weeks, I have seen "The Theory of Everything" and "The Imitation Game", both highly recommended and both from my knowledge, followed reasonably accurate story lines. 7.5 for both on Entertainment value.
I watched it some time ago and gave it a 5 star rating, but then I like all movies by Arnie, even if he is getting old.
I watched the The Imitation Game yesterday and liked it okay, but only gave it 4 stars. Probably knowing the outcome already took away the suspense that could have made it a 5 star rating.
I rated it 4 out 5 stars. I did laugh a lot during this movie. If you're a man and have ever been in a bad relationship give this movie a look see. Pretty good review of this movie
If you are a parent with high school kids, I don't recommend watching this movie if you ever want to be able to leave your kids for the weekend. I actually went to a party that was close to this when I was in high school. I never made it to the house as the traffic jam in the area was just unreal and the nearest parking was a mile away. I am still laughing an hour after watching. A pretty good review
Roku has quite a few movie channels. Some free, some not. If there's a new movie you can't wait to see, you can rent it on the Bockbuster channel or something. But the only paying channels my wife and I use are Netflix and Hulu. But we also have Crackle, PopcornFlix, and a few others specifically for horror or Asian cinema (I use that for Hong Kong action movies). I also subscribe to the Manga channel. The movies and shows are free, with a few ads, or you can pay $1 to watch them without ads.
Thanks Cowboy, I currently use both Netflix streaming & DVD service and the streaming doesn't offer as many new releases as the DVD service. But lately I've been getting a lot of DVD's that I can't watch the whole movie, because I just plane don't like it. I'm thinking I've already seen most of the available non-new release movies that are my type of movies. I've been using the service for about 6 years now averaging about 6 DVD's per week. I knew this time was coming and I really hate getting DVD's that I can't watch. With the online service you just stop watching and find another movie. Is there a way to tell which streaming services have the most new releases?

Definitely the best of the sequels. Only major faults - No Shriekers anywhere to be found. Plenty of Graboids, plenty of AssBlasters, and plenty of tongue snakes, but no Shriekers anywhere. Also there's a plot twist revealed about 20 mins from the end that I kinda feel was unnecessary and not needed at all, but it doesn't change my opinion of the movie at all, and it's not that it's a bad twist, it just wasn't needed at all, especially since nothing even comes from it after and it doesn't add anything to the movie. Other than that, this has both the horror and comedy that you've come to expect from the Tremors franchise, plenty of exciting monster-hunting action, new unique forms of the classic creatures (except as mentioned, for the Shriekers, which once again get shafted), very well-done effects (Both CGI and practical), and the whole affair is surprisingly well-acted, especially considering how bad Parts 3 and 4 were in that area (and the short-lived but still fun overall TV series). Suffice to say, if you're either a die-hard fan of the franchise or just a casual viewer, this is one hell of an entertaining entry in the series and easily the best, most exciting, of all the sequels. And coming from me, that means a lot as I hold Tremors 2: Aftershocks in very high regard. My personal take is if your a Tremors fan like me you will just love this one.

Just caught a rerun of the "The Drop" - one of those rare films that are better than the book, or short story here, when the book wasn't lousy. (It's since been made a novel, which was author Lehane's original intent anyway - haven't read it). A small movie, with one mood and one thing to say. Not much for bodies naked or dead, but Tom Hardy in a role born to, James Gandolfini in his last role, perfectly cast and wonderfully named Noomi Rapace hitting her marks, Mathias Schoenearts (and the screenwriter) nailing a type, and the finest ever employment of a dog in a film - the whole cast nails the script, which is excellent. Plus effective use of sound - nobody shouts, nobody screams, the gunshots are not provided with echo and amplification (nor do they send people flying through the air) and most of the time the sound is telling you about what's off screen - a storytelling trick I sucker for. One reason to mention it is that the reviews, while generally praising the movie, universally seem to miss what's at the center of it.

Yeah, that first one - the one with the cast as named in the second paragraph. And that review you posted illustrates the odd way that movie seems to confuse reviewers - I have yet to see a review of that movie without a basic error of some kind in the description. Bob Saginowski (Hardy) is not an ex-con (or at least that is no factor if he is); Bob does not "resolve to start a new life away from crime" in that sense; no cash "mysteriously disappears" in the movie; some cash the bar is robbed of (at gunpoint) is the bar's legitimate receipts, not money gangsters are laundering; Bob is not pulled back toward trouble; Bob is not brought to action by the cash robbed or otherwise; and so forth - the entire sentence is bizarrely unrelated to the movie. There's a bar, Bob is a bartender, gangsters and cash are involved in some way, otherwise wtf? The movie pivots around a dog Bob finds in a garbage can, and Bob's need for redemption - which the dog mediates.
Hmm. Thanks for this. Dogs and redemption are a personal favorite. Check out White God (description in link--on Netflix now) and El Aura (2005--on Hulu Plus) for things of a somewhat similar nature. The description of the latter neglects, amazingly, to mention the dog, also pivotal to our anti-hero's salvation (of a sort).
I just watched the first 5 seasons of the Showtime TV series Shameless, via the On demand function of Direct TV and I can hardly wait for season 6. Netflix carries it on DVD's and their meager label below just doesn't do it justice at all. I enjoyed all 60 episodes that I watched and highly recommend it for adults only. I gave it 5 stars.
