Has their been any argument, from anyone in this thread, saying that this wasn't stupid?

Arguing for the sake of arguing is also stupid by the way.

Thanks for making my point. Wither governor ordered the state guard or the state national guard, it's immaterial.

I don't think you know what wither means...

Anywho, back to the thread itself..

Louie Gohmert has decided to weigh in on the whole issue, citing his disgust at calling or referring to the state of Texas as being the "enemy" in this yearly exercise. And it is a sight to behold. (The comment's section underneath is a hilarious read.)

As is the response to his lunacy.

You really think they are going to start shooting at each other? Texan militias wouldn't stand a chance.

Texans have big egos, but even they have to know that.

Do you seriously think the US government is going to take over Texas and impose martial law? Do you really believe that Photizo?

do i think its likely no. but we dealing with some severely unbalanced people that are paranoid as all hell and armed to the teeth. i think its a possibility. all it will take is just one of those wackadoodles to pull the trigger and things can go amiss real quick. lets say someone takes shoots at them they would almost have to fire back and at that point i really don't know if all those "patriot" would back down at that point. remember these are the same type of people that pushed for a shoot out with the feds at the bundy ranch i can't say with 100% confidence that they won't. you have to remember their afraid and angry those aren't things that lead to the making of good decisions.

I'm not sure...if they did, I tend to think it would include far more territory than just Texas...but...again, why should it be considered crazy? Why not be suspicious? Do you think it is a good thing to have complete 'childlike' trust in such a powerful entity? What do we really know about what is going on? We are living in really strange times--IMO...
Is not something of such magnitude "suspicious" by definition?

Well, if one has reason to be suspicious, then one should be suspicious. But being suspicious just because; well; mental health hospitals are filled with folks like that. There are times when circumstances warrant suspicion. This is not one of those. What has changed to make one suspicious of the federal government? It is talk radio, Fox News?

I was born and raised in the Midwest, and I have seen nothing which would lead me to conclude the feds are coming to get me. Texas isn’t very far away. If anything the feds have been quite restrained. Healthy suspicion requires a reason. Since the Civil War, has any POTUS ever invaded a state and imposed martial law? No, and why would the feds ever want to do so. There is just no gain and a lot of costs associated with such a move. And then you have a small matter of the US Constitution, every member of our armed forces takes an oath to uphold the Constitution. Our military doesn’t swear allegiance to a political party or an individual. And an invasion of any state by federal troops would be at the very least stretching the Constitution, so if any president were to even attempt to do something like that; he/she would be faced with a military revolt. I was in the military during the waning days of the Nixon administration and my son is currently serving in the military, and I can tell you members of the military take their oath very seriously. And congress would very likely and immediately impeach the president and rightfully so. An invasion and military occupation of Texas has no value and a lot of costs. So it makes absolutely no sense.

What value would the POTUS get by imposing martial law on any state, much less Texas? There is none, he would take a peaceful state with people paying taxes and turn it into a hell hole like Iraq or Afghanistan. Who needs it? The fact is the feds, and more specifically the POTUS would gain nothing by invading Texas and imposing martial law and loose everything. That is why it is crazy. Now I know Texans don't want to hear this, but the fact is Texas just ain’t worth invading.

If the feds wanted to take over Texas, they wouldn’t need Special Forces to do so, they have the Army III Corp in Texas along with a number of Air Force and Navy bases with sufficient force to take over the state at any time. These are long standing installations; they have been in Texas for many decades. So if the governor is concerned about an invasion by the feds, he should be more concerned about the large military bases that have been based in Texas for decades rather than some routine military exercises by a few hundred or thousand Special Forces troops.

Government is comprised of human beings who, like anyone else, are capable of extremes of good or evil. Factor in the nature of those who gravitate to power and it starts to get uncomfortable for me...I don't trust them (any politician)...it's just the way I tend to look at things.
As I see it, perceiving the suspicious nature of this particular operation is something you sense or you don't. There's just something in the air...rational explanations that seek to define what that "something" is are hard to come by but that's not a reason to dismiss it. That said, it could be nothing. I do commend the Governor for taking seriously the concerns of his people rather than making light of them.

    Right, as do veterans. Amen.
I hope that would still be the case.

Thank you both for your service.

Yet you trust the politicians who are buying into the hysteria and giving their voters what they want (by buying into the hysteria)?

There is nothing suspicious about this training exercise. They apparently won't even have live rounds or live fire. Do you expect them to take over Texas with harsh words?

    Yes.

    Paranoia.

Explanations were given. Just because people still have their tin foil hats on and could not hear it is not everyone's problem.

The biggest concern is that the Governor has shown himself to be as paranoid as some in the State. Which makes for scary scenarios considering he has at his fingertips, the ability to call on the Texas guards who are armed with live rounds.

Every country has these sorts of military exercises. It comes with the territory when you have a military force. If the military have to train in changing environments, it is natural that said military train their people in changing and different environments.

I have seen black hawks hover outside my building with people with guns pointing them towards our building and offices and then seeing those personnel jump out of those helicopters on neighbouring buildings in military exercises over my capital city. If we were like the paranoid in the US, we'd be shooting them down in fear of an "invasion". We have had US armed personnel come and train here for desert warfare. We didn't start panicking that it was a take over.

Sadly, the real risk now is that some nutbag is going to start shooting at them and possibly endanger the lives of military personnel who are only there taking part in a military exercise. The Governor should not continue to instill this sort of conspiracy driven panic in the populace, because that will lead to people losing their lives.

Actually, it's you who buys into your own hysteria--which you believe gives you magical powers of discernment and uncanny abilities to alter reality simply by calling "those things which be not as though they were." It's called living in a world of make believe...such a state of mind when mingled with unbridled hysteria fosters a kind self delusion on steroids which could be cause for concern.
Wonderful. Now go back to ranting and raving about the police.

Indeed. I seem to recall Texas was absorbed into the US empire in 1846, after a campaign of settlement and separatism rather like the one Putin has been supervising in Ukraine and Netanyahu is waging in Palestine.

Let me see if I have this straight..

You are asking why people shouldn't be worried because some retards think the US Government is about to invade Texas and take away their rights and you think I am living in a world of make believe?

Cleaned out the cellar and started stockpiling food for when they come for you yet, Photizo? I hear the US army really likes white meat. Best start marinating your thighbone boy!

Awww.. Are you upset that I don't think shooting and killing unarmed black people is a good thing? Poor baby. Do you want a cookie?
