It does happen in unexpected places.

Now that the humour part is done, I have to ask: what is the point? It's a classic example of the failure of marketing theory, isn't it? Speaking for myself, I've never bought anything on the basis of advertising... well, all right, toys when I was a kid. Are you happy now, marketeers? You gulled a child; well done. Will you be accepting your paycheck in human blood, as usual, or would you like to invest in a land scheme involving gingerbread houses? Yes, yes: Hail Hydra. Now get out.

But what in the name of the ever-living Gordon -

    - is this supposed to accomplish? "Oh, woe is me, for lonely am I. If only I had a Bangladeshi love magic merchant to a-sort out my romantic requirements! Wait, what's this? a random net scrawl with a dead-end link dropped anonymously on a discussion website?! My loins are saved!" A) No one is going to buy your service, not if you sent a million out. B) The link probably doesn't lead anywhere - er, not that I would know, even as a gag click. How can this, as an S&T marketing issue, work?

And what should the penalty be, shooting, or dismemberment of parts, or shooting of dismembered parts?

At the moment, I don't think I would complain if the owners blocked anyone from India from signing up to this site for a period of time.

Because this is god damn ridiculous.

Well, you can't cut off a whole nation. That is 1 billion potential subscribers: sure, none of them seem to know that we're here, but at the least we can say their spam spiders do.

Is it actually definitely coming from India? I'm just going off on India because it has more comic recognition than the smaller nations around there and because the lettering looks like Hindi.

Is it possible to put a restriction on how many posts a new member can make per day?

The country code for the phone numbers that these posts contain is for India.

I'm not sure what the perp expects to achieve. He can't imagine that doing this will induce any of us towards becoming his customers.

Maybe he hopes that posting thousands of copies of his phone number on the internet will drive whatever web page that bears the same number onto the first page of Google search results.

Now there's an idea: limit daily posts to like 5 without some kind of non-bot verification.

Yes, they are all from India. We can tell by their IP addresses.

That was a suggestion I had made to the owners yesterday, as well as increasing the in system number for the little spam button we have that automatically bans and delete their posts, to 100, instead of the 25 it is currently (just to make it easier for us to deal with them) when all of this first started (as well as others). I have also linked several websites, addons for this software, that others have found worked against spambots, yesterday.

We were advised they were going to install another addon, we aren't sure if it is in yet or if it works. But there do appear to be a variety of options, addon wise anyway.

This is a new type of spammer, so something has changed to enable them to log on, where they previously could not. We were told that the Captcha program was hacked recently, but there are addons for that as well now, to try to slow them down. It could be that that hack now allows these spambots to register on our site and others and go nuts as they have been. It certainly seems that way. Hopefully something will be done to fix it soon.

is spam really defined as usary of temporal relief tactics of false promise related to bossing sensuality on people. spa'ing people variably on demand mapping peoples lives to divert people from mentioning covert user error.

as if a small town astrologist could chart your future, and team you with it's qualifying snicker party.

It is that around 1974 an eagle constellation 'literal 'neater than what one couldn't create on 'lightbright(an colorful toy gift available in the 1970's) began to disappear.
There is truth that those whom believe in peace never participate as riot, and don't bother risking themselves and wouldn't network others to be or do so.
    It may have been that on the eastern coast of the United States in the early 1970's [Maryland]; an eagle, hawk,and what became known as a vulture where chained to stay, at a park;
there is belief that since 'the eagle is a pride of ours in America and is a also our money emblem; aside from politics at the time ecological earnesty cares of itself; hadit been that at the trapping of the eagle at this park now ?how many years..eventually led animals from other country's to this country and none made the connection; that the eagle constellation was disappearing, and the animals that had visited from other lands 'were literally a concern of the violence, and a zoo was gaven and the truth a common ignorance of keeping. Is it strangely that people whom agree with trappism ?may or mayn't have had a higher illness ratio if looking at such statistically. I gander is this matter had been at matter similar ever in another ?country historically. Yet really more concertedly concerned here.
.........it's sooo staleing. somebody please recognize this writing.
Perhaps if peace is maintained and proper saving nonviolent and respectful attention is given to the matter, our good earth and our place here may benefit.

    Welp..

I think you need to "gander is this matter some more".

And preferably find a different translation service so that it stops being so "staleing" and so that someone can "recognise this writing".

    In other words..

You make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

is a bot someone whom likes partying and neglecting worth. for it seems you may need reading or empathy, compassion, and perception lessons. And or the return to admitting that you aren't that complicated of people and return to steadying yourselfs with basic life calming techniques like breathing enough to care to perceive value; instead of sluttening with and or for emotional stimulation.

?what did I write to get two such replies: what is this lack refuseing the value of reiterating, worths midst writing,.

    No.

    That would be a "butt".

No, I think we are good.

I am also pretty certain that the reason we cannot understand anything you say is not because we lack "reading or empathy, compassion, and perception lessons". I am very very certain that is because you do not make any sense because whatever it is you are using to translate is doing it wrong.

We are a simple folk, who like it when people make sense...

    I beg your pardon!

    That's a bit personal, isn't it?

What I spend my time "sluttening" myself for is none of your concern!

I will provide you with a perfect example:

    You don't make sense.

Vous ne faites pas de sens.

    No tienes sentido.

    Δεν έχει νόημα

    Sie machen keinen Sinn.

    你没有意义

    आप का कोई मतलब नहीं है

    Huwezi kufanya maana

    Та утгагүй чадахгүй байна

    كنت لا معنى له

    Вы не имеют смысла

    ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਤੁਕ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ

I have included various interpretations of "you don't make sense", including Swahili, Punjabi and Hindi. Hopefully this helps you in the future.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, get a new interpretation service.

The advertising is not the first priority; it is the vessel.

What they're after is Search Engine Optimization, and whatever data they can collect on websites and users.

All of this spam exists just to see what happens to it.

    • • •

Your posts read like something a spambot would generate:

is a bot someone whom likes partying and neglecting worth ― This makes no sense.

for it seems you may need reading or empathy, compassion, and perception lessons ― The "for" is extraneous; the entire formulation dates between the nineteenth century and about 1940.

And or the return to admitting that you aren't that complicated of people and return to steadying yourselfs with basic life calming techniques like breathing enough to care to perceive value; instead of sluttening with and or for emotional stimulation. ― The first five words of this sentence serve exactly no function; the rest does not manage to accomplish a coherent sentence. Even in toto, the sentence hangs. Hang on to this one for a moment; it makes an excellent example.

what did I write to get two such replies: what is this lack refuseing the value of reiterating, worths midst writing ― Syntactically, it would have made sense if you simply stopped at the colon.

To start from the top: Clearly there is some question about what a bot is; the word is a colloquial neologism, taken from contracting the word robot, that has become a standard word. The bots most people worry about online are spam generators, which is at the heart of people's question about your posts. After that, most worry about bots designed to harvest information for identity theft. Or maybe the ones that harvest for the purpose of deciding who to spam with what; those have more of a daily presence in people's lives.

Every major website has a robots.txt file informing bots of permissions restrictions; to wit, we have a couple parts of Sciforums that search engines are supposed to skip; if word gets out that this or that site's search bots aren't respecting the file, every other site in the world will start blocking the search engine immediately.

    Robots.

    'Bots.

    Bots.

    Spambots.

Your posts read like any number of spambots we encounter; they tend to come from India and Southeast Asia. When translating into English, they hold too closely to transliteration, creating sentences that can be interpreted but aren't actually proper sentences.

The staff, I confess, is utterly confused. To the other, you don't appear to actually be selling anything or promoting some other website, so we try to leave it alone in that context.

But those two posts? One is a straightforward question; your posts read like they were written by a spambot.

The second is a bit of a crude joke; nobody is literally recommending the obliteration of the Indus. The idea is that the nature of networks, combined with the number of spambots coming out of India, means the spambots will never again be controlled, and thus run riot over the internet. The punch line is that it won't work if the operator in Mumbai is using a client to run a server in Nauru.

Sometimes people make jokes like these because it is their most civilized response to a phenomenon or event that strikes them as offensive.

And or the return to admitting that you aren't that complicated of people and return to steadying yourselfs with basic life calming techniques like breathing enough to care to perceive value; instead of sluttening with and or for emotional stimulation.

The thing about this example is that while people can generally discern a potential meaning, nobody can fix the sentence to make it say whatever it is you're trying to say.

And or the return to Admit that you aren't so complicated of people and return to steady yourselves through basic techniques like [?]breathing enough to care to perceive value; instead of wallowing in emotion stimulation.

    Thus:

Admit that you aren't so complicated and steady yourselves [??????] instead of wallowing in emotion.

And that's as close as I can get; I can't promise that it's accurate, but would note that such a message would seem somewhat condescending, and possibly to the point of offending others. Furthermore, part of what you're on about simply defies interpretive resolution, which only adds to the mystery.

Those who watch badly-subtitled films will recognize the phenomenon; there is no localization. Most people think of localization in script translation as the difference between a Japanese product no American will recognize and, say, Crystal Pepsi, an unfortunate product no American wants to remember. The joke makes more sense if the translation is localized. Shoes for mackerel becomes a drawn-out Star Trek joke including the difference 'twixt a robot and a cyborg. "Hippy dippy dip dippy dippy dippy dip" becomes an impressively useless rhyme about "Naked Lunch, Hawaiian Punch". If they transliterated straight from the Japanese into the English, the script would make no sense. Then again, I am refering to Fooly Cooly, so even in English the script makes no sense.

Unlike the difference between the English-language subtitles written from the Japanese script and the actual English-translated voice dub, your posts look more like a similar lack of refinement about a spam translation from India. Only more so. It is as if they have been transliterated and then left as English-language words arranged according to another language's syntax. And it probably doesn't help that some of the words aren't actually words. "Sluttening"?

And there was also "slutteny", which charmed me to no end, though I would note that "microphone radio insult crime" is not a natural English phrase; it's translated from some other language. I have no idea what to say about "slutters of people whom terrorize"; that's one of the funniest strings of letters I've seen in a while.

But that's why people keep saying these strange things about your posts. It really is hard to figure out what we're looking at.
