Everybody here claims their beliefs are real. And they label them under the banner of science or religion or proper ethics or philosophy to justify them. There's no such thing as a person who doesn't believe their beliefs are real, and who doesn't discuss them as if they are. That's the beauty of discussion. The ever lively interplay of opposing beliefs and personal realities sometimes achieving a remarkable new synthesis of truth.

As for a formal debate, I'm not interested. I just prefer lively and causal discussion as I always have.

    Is that what I said?

    No, really, is it?

Look at the question you asked me and look at my responses and please, explain to me how you come to this?

    Yep.

Religion is pretty bad for society as a whole.

    Indeed.

People even wage wars over their belief in God.

I have yet to see anyone wage war because someone or society doesn't believe that the shakey something on a video is a UFO or the Loch Ness monster.

When it does, then get back to me and we can revise what I will and will not take seriously.

I don't know. Are UFO'logists camping outside abortion clinics or bombing them or shooting them because their alien overlords told them they had to 'think about the baby'?

You keep saying it's not the content that's the issue, but you keep proving that it is the content that is the issue.

As I said above, and I shall repeat it, just for you:

If you want scientific discourse and you are looking for it in the pseudoscience sub-forums, then you are doing it wrong.

For all of your complaints about wanting scientific discussions, you haven't participated in any scientific discussion in the science sub-forums in weeks. How come? The actual scientific threads are right there. Here, I will even link it for you: http://www.sciforums.com/#science.1

No one is forcing you to participate in non-scientific discussions in the pseudoscience forum or the religion forum. I could question why you volunteered to moderate those two non-scientific sub-forums if non-scientific discussions make you so angry and upset. In fact, no one is forcing anyone or demanding anyone scroll right down to the bottom of the front page to participate in UFO discussions.

Certainly, sometimes we get threads and discussions that do and can endanger the lives of other people or are trying to encourage or support illegal activities and we have even had threads and discussions where people posted illegal things and they are and should be dealt with immediately. Until such a time as believing in ghosts and UFO's falls under such a banner or until people who believe in such things pose a danger to society as a whole or to others because of their beliefs, what's the harm if someone believes in fairy tales? Do you go to the local shopping mall at Christmas and berate parents for allowing their kids to take photos with Santa because it's encouraging a belief in fairy tales as well?

I mean honestly, no one is forcing you to believe in fairy tales. Well, you believe in some of it yourself and voluntarily. And that's great for you. His belief in UFO's and ghosts is no different to your belief in God.

    Once more..

If you want scientific discourse and you are looking for it in the pseudoscience sub-forums, then you are doing it wrong.

Science is not a belief system, so it is not appropriate for anyone to "believe in science". Anyone who "believes in science" is doing it wrong.

Do you believe in the theories that science has constructed? Yes or no?

I think the fact remains that denying evidence that contradicts the idea that bigfoot or ghosts are real, or that vaccines are harmful, etc. encourages disregard (or worse, contempt) for the scientific method. Like when you're shown why a particular source is unreliable, or intentionally dishonest - and yet that is ignored, or just claimed that that doesn't count, and goes right back to pushing that same discredited information as fact.

    That's the real problem.

No. Theories are not belief systems either, so it is not appropriate to "believe in" them. Anyone who does so is doing it wrong.

You've had all of this explained to you dozens of times over the last several years. There is no good reason why you would keep asking the same wrong questions over and over again.

What "evidence" do you have that bigfoot or ghosts are unreal? You do realize that even if every bigfoot turned out to be a man in a gorilla suit, and every ghost turned out to be car headlight reflections, that wouldn't prove the unreality of them.

That's rarely if ever happened. Alot of claims about a source being unreliable or hoaxing, but no evidence to back it up. You can't just say someone is delusional or unreliable and leave it at that. You need to show why that is so. And that is never done.

Hey everyone, Russ doesn't believe in the theories of science. Shall we burn him at the stake too?

Who is forcing you to read his posts?

Why bother even pretending at this point, folks. Magical Realist is kept around so that you guys can yank his chain. If he were a legitimate troll, you all would have ignored him long ago. Instead you all condescend to abuse and harassment. You love experiencing righteous indignation over an eccentric who believes in UFOs and Bigfoot, as if it's some outrageous crime. One particular moderator takes it upon themselves to disallow posting privileges, surreptitiously delete/edit/move posts, and trace IP addresses, all in order to antagonise and harass. I know this for a fact, because I've also been on the receiving end. Yeah, everything is peachy if you tow the party line, but god forbid you actually point out that what people are doing here borderlines on bullying. Certain people here are good at dishing out abuse and ridicule, but if even a small portion is dealt back to them, then they suffer an extreme case of butthurtitis.

    Excellent.
Because I know for a fact that UFOs aren't alien and aren't technological devices, they're actually piles of mutated blancmange bent on world domination[1].
"Ghosts" are just hedgehogs playing practical jokes[2].
Now that's solved conclusively can we shut those sub-fora down entirely?

1 And, no they can't be stopped by anything we could do. But their idea of "world domination" is to dissolve in the rain harmlessly.
2 Paying a hedgehog 50 Baht will make him/ her leave off the jokes for a year.
