So, Germany is expected to see a flood of up to 1.5 million refugee migrants this year. That's interesting to say the least - one could even suggest: Wow.

Wow - I mean, that's sort of insane IHMO. As in, completely insane.

To make a very unfair comparison, Japan is expected to take 14 refugees this year. Fourteen. Those will most likely arrive from East Asia, probably North Korea. Personally, I thank the Shinto Gawds the Japanese Oligarchy has enough common sense not to go in for population replacement as a means of temporarily boosting economic activity. It's very nice to be able to walk around anywhere in Japan and feel 110% totally safe. Nearly no crime. Last time I was in Japan I made a movie of a woman, in the middle of the city, selling me chicken with a mountain of money sitting on the counter. This would NEVER happen in any other country I've visited. Anyone could have reached in and grabbed a thousand dollars and no one would have known. I see this sort of thing all the time in Japan. As I've said in the past, Japanese sit their $1200 smart phone on a table to hold it while they go wait in line at the Cafe'.

Meanwhile over in Sweden, I was listening to a story from an old Swedish man who was sort of shocked and sad that there were parts of the city he couldn't visit any longer. He'd never experienced that before. It shocked him. That's interesting to me. I'm thinking? Are you an idiot? Didn't you think that, oh, I don't know - maybe letting in a large number of foreigners in a short amount of time, without a slow chance to adapt to and become "Swedish", might, maybe, possibly lead to some problems?! I sort of felt sad for him. He seemed well meaning. And truly confused. IMO this is a case of Magic Thinking taken to the extreme. I see this sort of thinking in Japan all the time. It's just that the Japanese Oligarchy aren't in the mood for cultural replacement. Sure, an idiot pops up once in awhile. Only to be ignored and voted out. This isn't to say Japan is 'culturally pure'. There's plenty of people like me - just a small enough number to ensure time to integrate and become Japanese. If you can't become Japanese, you're not going to like living in Japan. Which, suggests, you probably shouldn't live in Japan. Pretty simple reasoning actually.

    Anyway, so Germany.

I really wonder just WHAT exactly the German EU Bureaucratic-Oligarchy have in mind? Okay Okay, Merkel will get the Nobel Peace Prize no doubt. I guess she can hangout with Obama. I also read this morning that the Germany State will be forced to spend and/or direct 10,000,000,000 Euros (this year alone) paying for housing and food etc... and this is good for the Germany Economy (Pfffff...... LOL) as it will pop German's GDP up as much as 0.5% GDP.

Really? Are people THIS STUPID? Yes, yes they are.

Sure, the very very very generous German welfare State has led to (or at least is correlated with) one of the fastest imploding populations in the world (more so than even socialistic Japan where Gray is the new Black) and if Germans want to maintain their Socialist Paradise either they're going to have 1. to massively increase their productivity to unrealistic levels (which isn't possible) or 2. they'll need to increase migration to increase their tax base (of course, they could just 3. cut back on the social freebies, but hey FREE sells well in Magic Thinking Land).

Germany is (perhaps was is the more appropriate auxiliary verb) a highly technical economy - one could say they are one of the most 'advanced' economies on the planet. Thus, German Industry requires some of the most advanced skills available on the market. High-end engineers, physicists, mathematicians, computer programmers, medical researchers, pharmaceutical researchers, and on and on the list goes. The exact opposite of what they're going to get. A lot of pissed off young men, from very violent backgrounds (not their fault, but reality none-the-less) socially ostracized into ghettos or a sort of forced assimilation where Germans will be told (not asked) to make way.

Let's see how it works out. Maybe this is the end of Germany as a social welfare State or maybe just the beginning. We'll see. It'll be fascinating to watch. I personally think Germany will end up looking exactly like the USA. Maybe a bit worse for wear. But, once the dust settles, Germany will probably look like the USA - they'll have all the problems we have (in terms of crime and racism and etc...), they'll probably tackle those problems in exactly the same way we have (police State). They'll get used to ghettos where the police cannot go. Locking their doors. And etc....

No, not the end of the world, but also not the Progressive Social Welfare State Germans thought they could have. No, I don't think that's going to happen. They ran out of kids to prop it up and refugees will be taking - not giving, taking. That's kind of how it works. So, Germany will probably end up little like a US-style welfare State. Maybe even they'll get back into the business of War?

Let's see how the next 20 years unfold.... Immigration Crisis OR Economic Opportunity.

Well, then move to Japan if it is so great. You will enjoy it they have really, really strict gun control laws. Japan is very progressive, way back in 2014 they made it illegal to possess child pornography, of course you can still buy comic books displaying sex between adults and children. You should also assume your wife or daughters will be sexually assaulted on mass transit (60% -70% have experienced so form of sexual assault on trains). But hey, your cell phone won't get stolen by some 'filthy immigrant'.

PS. The Japanese government lies about the crime statistics.

I travel to Japan all the time and have lived in Japan. I'll be there in November or December until January or so. Yes, I know the idea of self-regulation is foreign to you Statists, but in actual 'socialistic' societies (I'm talking about societies that PRACTICE socialism) it's the members of society that regulate inappropriate behaviors - - with the State playing a LIMITED role.

Only if all other options are exhausted, and it seems intractable, then the State is called in and a regulation or law is passed. Unlike in the USSA where the State is the first and foremost option.

Of course, Japanese are just as Statist as the next State - but due to their language and monoculture, Japanese are therefor able to actually enjoy the freedoms we crap on about. This isn't something 'new' you can read PhD Dissertations on the topic every year.

The Atlantic: Why Japanese Kids Can Walk to School Alone

It’s a common sight on Japanese mass transit: Children troop through train cars, singly or in small groups, looking for seats. They wear knee socks, polished patent-leather shoes, and plaid jumpers, with wide-brimmed hats fastened under the chin and train passes pinned to their backpacks. The kids are as young as 6 or 7, on their way to and from school, and there is nary a guardian in sight. A popular television show called Hajimete no Otsukai, or My First Errand, features children as young as two or three being sent out to do a task for their family. As they tentatively make their way to the greengrocer or bakery, their progress is secretly filmed by a camera crew. The show has been running for more than 25 years.

This simply is not going to happen in a large US city. A tiny town? Possibly. Not in New York.

As for Germany and its influx of 1.5 MILLION refugees (and that's only until the end of this year alone). Well, we'll see. I've live in 5 different countries. While I've only visited Germany twice, I don't seem to recall it was a Magical place where the laws of economics and social norms are suspended. It's simply NOT possible to integrate millions and millions of people in a short amount of time. It's also not possible to provide a bunch of free stuff without either being extremely productive OR increasing the tax base by population expansion (which Germans no long do).

Sorry, but it looks like Progressive Magic Thinking has finally reached it's ultimate conclusion. Even in Japan the younger generation have given up on thinking they're going to see any of the benefits they're paying for their grandparents to currently enjoy. BUT, they'd rather that then see their culture wiped out.

So, let's see how it plays out over the next 20 years or so. Whatever Germany was in 2014, it is now forever changed. For the better or worse? Time will tell.

Has Japan made amends for it's war crimes from WWII?

I'm also pretty confident that other countries would monetarily give support helping Germany's gesture. Germany had a plan for 11 000 000 Jews to be worked to death in Europe. Did Japan have a plan for the Chinese?

Maybe Japan should house some refugees.

I'm not American but Canadian and my culture is more internet. Along with every other poster here I guess.

    Come again?

Let's see, we nuked two of their cities filled with civilians and our (USA) military still occupies their lands.

    No? Not enough?

How about this "payment"? Three U.S. servicemen: U.S. Navy Seaman Marcus Gill, U.S. Marines Rodrico Harp and Kendrick Ledet, all from Camp Hansen on Okinawa rented a van, kidnapped a 12-year-old Japanese girl, beat the shit out of her, duct-taped her eyes and mouth shut, then bound her hands and all three took turns raping her. Would you suggest this girl paid a high enough price? I mean, she's Japanese - she has to pay for what her grandparents did. Right?

No. Children do NOT owe responsibility for the crimes of their parents. Most people alive during WWII are either dead or near-dead.

I'm of the mind German's alive today, most certainly do NOT owe anything for WWII. This would be like asking England, France and Spain to 'pay' for colonizing America and wiping out up to 80% of the native populations in some areas. Children born today, do not pay for the sins of their fathers. That's asinine. If what's happening in Germany is due to some misguided guilt over WWII, well, that pales in comparison to what the English did and did for centuries prior.

I've yet to hear an Ethical argument made for children being responsible for the actions of their parents. Isn't selling them into Debt Slavery enough? What? We also have to make them pay for the crimes of their great-grandparents?!

Is this 2015 CE or 2015 BCE?!?!

Giving money to Germany is NOT going to make a difference. It's not possible to integrate millions of people into any society. It's simply impossible. Anyway, Germans are like any other people and they will react as do any other people. So, we'll see how this turns out in 20 years. Perhaps it will be an economic opportunity, or maybe the costs will mean Germans have to undergo a change to deal with a society composed of so many different people with very very different ideas of what 'normal' behavior is - and in so doing, IMO, end up looking a lot like the USA. Which, for some people is really great, if you like Walmart and McDonlds' that is.

I disagree. They won't fit in, it will only make life in Japan worse for everyone involved.

I do think that the USA should stop invading other countries - that might help a little.

You've not made an ethical argument.

The global community could be exponentially closer and more informed than WWII and conquistadors - they didn't even have radio.

And I don't think Israel is going to forget the holocaust any time soon.

Assuming German children born during or following WWII did not magically transport back in time and fight in WWII, then they have no moral obligation to pay any repatriation at all to anyone. Being born 'German' is just dumb-luck.

Japanese people have absolutely no responsibility to take in middle eastern refugees in a War the USA, England (mini-USA) and Australia (mini-mini-USA) made up out of completely phony 'evidence'. The Oil War the USA is running in the middle east has nothing to do with Japanese people. They should not take a single refugee IMO.

Likewise for Germany. They should not take in a single refugee, IMO. They didn't start this phony Oil War, we in the USA did. So, if any place should take in 3-5 million refugees, it should be New York - their bankers caused and pay for the War.

Come again? This is the "Magic Thinking" I was referring to.

Germany cannot take in 1.5 million people (and that's only until the end of this year). It's simply not economically and socially possible - well, not without irretrievably changing society itself.

I'll tell you what, if you would like to house a refugee family - do it. And you can also take legal responsibility for their actions. But, don't make that decision for other people around you. That's actually doing nothing AND washing your hands of all responsibility. I personally support with my time (which is limited) and make donations to the charities I support, local and international. That certainly doesn't give me the right to demand others do the same or suggest they don't 'care for people' if they don't act as I do.

Germans alive today who did not participate in WWII own nothing in regards to the actions of their forefathers. As for their forefathers, their debts have been repaid.

It should be noted, of the 1.5 million migrants spilling into Germany, we're not talking women and children fleeing. By and large, most of the refugees are men. About 70% suggest the estimates. We're talking about nearly 1,000,000 undocumented young men pouring into cities not prepared to house, feed and look after them. The political ineptitude is now reaching ludicrous proportions.

IMO - literally insane. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted, one could say: Progressive Socialism's finest moment. An inevitability really, if you stop and think about it.

If you think you can take a million undocumented men, unable to speak the language, unfamiliar to the local culture - and in many ways probably ANTI the very Progressive Socialist ideals, the Progressive Socialists spout without a wave of crime soon to follow, you're literally living in La La land. These are economic refugees pushing past country after country to the land of milk and honey / Social Welfare State. If they wanted safety they could have stopped 5 countries back.

Anyway, I truly feel sorry for the refugees, because this isn't going to end well for them. As for Germany, I really don't what to say. Other than, we'll see. Some of these men are really bad people. I don't know what the statistics would be like on something like this. The number of killers? Rapists? Thieves? It might be low - or it could be high. Who knows? I would think it would be as much a statistical certainty that some innocent people, many refugees as well as Germans, are going to be mugged, raped, even murdered. Unless there's some humongous camp that can house and monitor these million men, it's pretty much an inevitability. Wicked people exist in this world and when they see a prize like this - it's like a light to moths. I hate to sound sexist, but women and children must be housed separably.

Economic Crises or Economic Opportunity? Let's see.
