One God?

Judaism, Christianity, and Islam (and others) all worship one god. Some seem to consider this the same god for all, others believe their god is unique to them. What does this all mean?

Well if the god botherers that set out to inflame those on this science forum are any example, let me count the ways.....hypocrisy, intolerance, stupidity, ignorance, dishonesty etc.In other words totally opposite to the values that religions are supposed to uphold...at least as far as the ones that infest this forum seem to present, with the likes of Bds and the god in particular.

If my wife is taken as an example, then we have a thoroughly decent human being, that just happens to believe in a God, and tolerates me that does not, just as I tolerate her beliefs.
I even allow her church group to practise their singing at my house once a month: Ironic actually when it is I that needs singing practise.

If you believe in life, then there must be a God .

Typical hypocritical Christian reaction: Who would expect anything else from another fucking god botherer.
But for your information, if your brain can take it in:
My wife still works, yes...her choice:
Of course the house is in both our names:
And no she's not a slave: I'm no male chauvinist as you appear to be.
And we have been married for 41 years and both our first marriages.
Still, I suppose for someone who pretends to be a christian such as yourself, seeing such tolerant attitudes taken by both of us would go against all you stand for.

Both Christianity and Islam are derived from Judaism and believe that at least some of the Hebrew scriptures are true and correct. Hence all three claim to worship the God revealed in the Hebrew book of Genesis.

Christians include translations of the Hebrew scriptures in their 'Bibles' as the so-called 'Old Testament'. In the so-called 'New Testament', Jesus, Paul and company are obviously Jews, preaching to Jews, presupposing Jewish concepts and making countless references to Jewish scripture and belief.

But... Christians subsequently came to believe that God is a Trinity, that God incarnated somehow in Jesus, that Jesus died and was resurrected (however that worked) and that Jesus revealed a new Covenant with God and a new path to salvation. Jews don't accept any of that.

Islam believes that it is a continuation of what it believes is the oldest primeval monotheism, the religion of Adam and Eve in Eden and of Noah after the flood. Muslims believe that the Jews went off the rails in trying to make God's monotheism an exclusive religion for a single ethnic group. So Muslims believe that they possess the original revelation from God that the Jews received and then subsequently screwed up.

And Muslims believe that Jesus was a human prophet who received the primordial monotheistic revelation from God once again, but that Jesus' followers screwed everything up by confusing Jesus with God himself.

So... I'd say that Jews, Christians and Muslims do worship the God described in the Hebrew book of Genesis, but Christians, Muslims and Jews believe very different things about that God. Interestingly, Muslim belief about God is much closer to Jewish belief than Christian belief is.

    You're ranting.

What does your personal hostility towards religion and religious people have to do with the question in the OP?

It's ironic, Paddoboy. When you behave like that, you display all of the qualities that you hate so viciously in others.

Read the Old Testament and see the God there is very destructive and maniacal to humans.

I have no hostility towards religion or people that follow a religion. And rather hypocritical of you saying I'm ranting, considering the lengthy highly philosophical rants you are noted for.
Obviously, as with many others on this forum, my hostility is towards the religious folk that come into science forums, trying there best to deride, and/or invalidate in their usual obscure fashions.
That hostility will most certainly continue as long as god botherers continue doing there little thing on this forum.
That's your opinion and you are entitled to it. Mine is as already detailed and will continue to be acted upon when I see religiously inspired nonsense, deliberately fabricated to show some contradiction and/or invalid aspect of accepted science.
PS: Perhaps you may like to go through the religious forum and see how many times I make any entrance deriding religion. On this occasion, I was somewhat motivated!

let me finally add with regards to yourself......

Ok, once again, what does your anger and willful ignorance have to do with the OP in this thread?

Have you made any attempt to answer the question posed there?

I'm not angry, nor am I willfully ignorant, but your posts seems to reflect those qualities....couple with totally ignoring my previous post detailing my reasons.
Sure I have.....culmination with the question, what does this all mean?
Again, in summing, a percentage of the religious folk that post here, do so to inflame, and enrage: They go out of there way to deride and question science, in the science threads in what is first and foremost a science forum: I most definitely question their honesty, their hypocritical nature, their intolerance, their stupidity and their ignorance.
So to answer the question, at least with regards to some here, they are frauds.

What does any of that have to do with whether Judaism, Christianity and Islam worship the same God?

Like I said, and like you so dishonestly ignored, I'm only angry at the god botherers that come here, [like yourself] with an agenda, and with no intention of accepting any scientific answer to any of their fabricated "scientific" questions.
Not sure what church you go to and not really interested, but if I went there and preached anti religious stuff and Jesus was a bum or similar, they would probably take me outside and hang me.....

All religions supposedly adhere to the qualities I mentioned, or at least that is their presumable goal. I'm just showing that they are hypocrites [see timojin] liars, intolerant and ignorant.
    I prefer to get to the nitty gritty and facts;
I'm sure if you philosophically examine the question thoroughly enough, you'll see a connection.

This forum is not a purely science, there are several subforums
