Dear Science: Why am I always cold indoors?]

"Asking why an archaic human isn't evolving from gorillas today is like asking why the children of your cousins don't look more like you," said Matt Tocheri, an anthropology professor at Lakehead University and a researcher in the National Museum of Natural History's Human Origins Program. "Those creatures have been on their own lineage for 10 million years. You can't go back up that lineage and back down again."

Even if chimpanzees could suddenly develop the traits of an Australopithecus, they probably wouldn't want to.

It's easy to think about evolution as a linear, progressive drive toward greater and greater complexity, something that started with single-celled amoebas and ended with us. But evolution doesn't have a destination, and even if it did, humans are certainly not it. In many cases, evolution tends to favor simplicity above all else. That's why creatures that live in caves lose their eyes, and whales — which are descended from terrestrial mammals — have almost no leg bones. Not even intelligence is sacred: sea urchins, which have no central nervous system, evolved from an ancestor with a brain.

That tells in 8 x10 *6 x 365 days no error in the genes have taken place , to produce a homid. And we ( the planet earth ) have experienced many environmental changes .

The person you were quoting [you] most certainly did not say that.

What a bizarre thread! You seem to be arguing with yourself by misrepresenting yourself!

Gorillas have been evolving for 8 million years, just like humans have.

The common ancestor of both guman and gorilla was neither a human nor a gorilla, not any other type of modern primate.

Correct. He was a different animal, one that shared many characteristics of humans and gorillas, not quite like any modern primate. Indeed, he was even further back in time than the most recent common ancestors of man and chimpanzees; the chimpanzees and bonobos are our closest cousins.

Let it be so . I thought it was an interesting article and inspired me to explore the idea.
Se how human had evolved in the last 8 K years ( since Sumerian time ) Gorilla bonobo, chimp ,orangutan., they have not left the jungle .
You have not evolved either , you don't have a constructive input .
Yap, he was a multiple character. Every so million years , he changed and eventually , he became US , the common ancestor, modern human, The previous branches are still animals , and WE the common ancestor rule over the undeveloped primate.

We are still animals, too. And bacteria do better than us or any other animal.

No, we are not the common ancestor, and chimpanzees and gorillas did not evolve from us. All of us evolved from a common ape ancestor. The most recent split occurred from a creature sometimes called pan prior - the last common ancestor we shared with chimpanzees. This occurred between 10 and 15 million years ago.

You appear to be unaware that cultural evolution is not the same as biological evolution. There have been genetic changes in humans over the last 8k years. There have likely been a appropriate number of changes in the genes of our fellow apes in the same period. Perhaps if you asked questions instead of making silly assertions you would learn more.

There is a huge error in your thinking. Since being human is NOT the goal of evolution you should not be surprised that modern apes are not evolving to be more human like.

    Yeah he does that:

    QUOTE

Him: "Paragraph 1 ) If you freeze things remain at the present state so water and Ice have the same density . The fact is the volume increase at constant pressure . The expansion force to increase volume is stronger the the tensile strength if iron or brass. That means there is a geometric rearrangement to favor volume increase . I like to think There is no relationship between phase change of water and vibration energy....."

Me: " 1)You seem to be saying two contradictory things in the same sentence. Water and ice do NOT have the same density, BECAUSE there is indeed a geometrical structure created as ice forms, that minimises the energy of the system, even though this does not involve the molecules being as close to one another as possible, i.e. it energetically favours volume increase, as you say....."

    1) There have been genetic changes in humans over the last 8k years. Are you implying Neanderthal was not human 300k ago , nor the so called modern man from Africa that started migrate into middle east, and
Europe And some biological evolution 8K years finished to make us what we are . Sure, I will ask you about that , where you got that.
Did you know American indian crossed the Bering strait over 14 K ( before the evolution you mention ) the native in Bolivia an Peru planted potato and corn.
Tell me did the Modern man from Africa and the American indian suddenly went trough biological evolution and started to farm.? .

I don't know the wrong thinking is mine or your . You are a farm boy look at a tree and contemplate in the branches . We the human are the stem ( common ancestor ) for ourself , the Apes have a common ancestor for himself, You don't get from the same stem one branch of apple then next pears , then oranges. Unless you insert branches of different fruit to the stem.

This is not how ancestry works. You misunderstand some key points.

Asians generally can't digest lactose into adulthood, that's an evolutionary change that happened to some humans in the last 10K years. Also, chimps are genetically much more diverse than humans.

The term 'common ancestor' refers to the origin of two different species - as in: they were once the same species.

What we are talking about here, is the creature that was around before either humans or gorillas - about 8-10 million years ago. As it evolved, we got multiple speciation events, one of which eventually involved into humans, and one of which eventually to gorillas. That creature is our common ancestor.

Think of family trees. Your cousins and you share a common ancestor. It is not your parents, or their parents; it is your grandparents. Your grandparents and your cousin's grandparents are the same people.
